Hiking at Pawnee National Grasslands this afternoon, it was so cold that I had to keep blinking to keep the ice from accumulating on my eyeballs. I didn’t see any daffodils on the first day of spring.
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

Here in Mini-so-cold…. I tried to take my dog for a walk today, but it was miserable….the “high” was either zero or neg 1, likely a new record for March……forecast says we will not be above 20 for 4 to 5 more days…..I have stoked up the Wood burning stove. We have Anti-freeze in the shower drains…supposed to be -19 below (again) tonight. I have a great picture but don’t see any option to attach…..
Same thing here in Alberta which Steven’s map shows a bunch of -38, -29 etc … I got about 1/4 of the way on the dogs walk this AM and he started pulling to go back home. I didn’t torture him with a second walk. Bloody miserable out and the ranches will be just getting into calfing now and so I bet there will be a lot of sleepless ranchers watching the cows 24 hours a day until it warms up. Imagine being born into -38 temperatures?
Put the photo online at one of the photo sites and put a link to it here.
Ummm…. Isn’t the first day of spring in three weeks or so?

Wrong link. This is it…

One of my favorite places, especially hiking Crow Creek. Agates and fossils, and the occasional homesteader’s dump site from the 30s. Old bottles, cans and tools to be found. It’s amazing how little things rust out there in 60-70 years.
Holy Vortex Batman! We hit -40ºC this morning, with -50ºC windchill Had a balmy high of -27ºC this afternoon. Greetings from Manitoba- the vortex centre of the world. Spring is a part of my bed!
Where’s your companions? I went out with the 20mph winds and the -30 wind chill today with the standard poodle. She needed a little help because she wasn’t keen on just dropping any old place in the back yard with the 3 to 5 foot drifts.
Needless to say she didn’t even notice it was cold out and I was cussing and crying the whole time. It’d be nice if this winter ended sometime soon.
Average high here should be 45° for March. Guess, what? It only got up to 25°. Huh. Maybe they can adjust it to reflect the fact that it had to get to 55° to match their predictions.
98 deg F in Perth Australia today.

:p
😀
Do you need some (brown, flithy) snow? I will be happy to post you a few million metric tonnes of the stuff. Ah, I mean COD, post paid, yeah.
Love to take some off your hands but it wouldn’t last the trip. We have too much devastating globally warmed climate down here!! (None of which we need to thank Hansen et al or CO2 for)
In southern Arizona our overnight low was 90 degrees warmer than it was in many northern states. Hard to believe such a huge difference. Only going to a comfortable 78 degrees today. God bless that blocking high which has re-formed. It will be ten degrees warmer by the end of the week. This will still be within the temperature range for this time of year here.
I haven’t seen any daffodils yet Steve and I live in Alabama. Cheez their two months late already.
To think they’re still planning the opening ceremony for the annual Washington DC Cherry Blossom Festival for March 22. It’s looking like a repeat of last year’s opening event: no blossoms, no buttons (allegedly due to sequestration), but lots of disappointed tourists.
