One of things that makes me grit my teeth… Warmists who smugly say “Well, of course it has been cool the last year or two, but if we want to see how things are warming up, we need to look at the long term trend, so let’s go waaaaaaay back to 1979!”

Totally aside from the cherry-pick nature of 1979, they honestly think that 35 years is a LONG time for trend analysis. Dust bowl? Little Ice Age? Holocene Climatic Optimum? Anything older than disco is mythical to these people.

I loved the guy (John Flynn?) over at WUWT who was trying to say that the 1960s were cold but the 1970s (start of climate models) wer WARM. Ha ha HA HA – ROTFLMAO

Thank you Steve for providing ready to hand shut-up material.

  3. Greg Locke says:

Looks a lot like a PDO driven cycle to me.

  4. Andy DC says:

From 1980 to 2000, the trend looked a bit alarming. Since then, the air has gone out of their balloon.

  5. Sparks says:

lmao… You should look at UK regional temperatures sometime. frigging hilarious.

  6. Sparks says:

To elaborate, they conform to the average global temperature.

Looking at just a few decades to explain the climate is like catching a crab to study the ocean.

Good point; one can catch crabs without getting anywhere near the ocean.

Wait…that’s probably not what you meant.
