Greens are shutting down the Boulder Power Plant next year, because they are convinced there is pollution spewing from it – in the same way that the Emperor was convinced he is wearing fine new clothes.
Progressives are complete whack jobs, incapable of rational thought and programmed to self-destruct.
They are closing down a plant in the county south of me. It has all of the latest “clean coal” tech and produces virtually no pollution, but it is no longer profitable due to regulations.
The selling point about the Emperor’s “new clothes” was that the Emperor would be able to determine which of his loyal minions were worthy of their station. It was simple–and depended upon whether or not the minion in question could SEE the Emperor’s fine clothing, and how well the minion could describe it. The village idiot running his mouth about “the Emperor has no clothes”–deserving!

Isn’t it obvious? Global Warming skeptics are “too stupid and incompetent to appreciate” the quality of the Green Agenda!
Coal is a big issue in the debate about climate change and I guess it will stay that way for at least some years from now on. The renewables are also on debate, since some of them seem not to be so climate friendly as people expected to be or as they were presented. Can you tell me of a single successful significant application of “green renewable” power?
My electric fence charger that is about a half mile from the house and barns. Or a wind mill used to draw water from a well and put it into a stock tank. That is about it. Niche market.

Valmont was doomed no matter CAGW, CPP. Too old, too expensive $/MWhs, the new CCPP at Cherokee, Comanche 3 et. al. were what drove it out of business.

I’ve read elsewhere that sometimes when you see a single wind turbine among many turning, it is being cycled (using grid power) to keep moving parts lubricated. So, they not only don’t run all the time, sometimes they are sucking power.
Just a few years ago I flew into Copenhagen and saw acres of wind turbines mainly offshore. None were turning. When I changed planes, crossing the tarmac to a twin turboprop, the air was dead calm. Yet the airport and the city seemed to be doing just fine w/o the spinning beanies.
So, I thought to myself: “Self, just what good are these things?”
The Wind Turbines and Solar Farms are a great wealth transfer mechanism.

Many ridges in New England and in eastern and central Pennsylvania are blighted with these War of the World behemoths. My own anecdotal experience has been that less than one-half of them are operating at any given time. And I wasn’t aware, as a poster said above, that many of those that are apparently working are being powered from the grid to turn for lubrication, etc.
These steel beasts will be monuments to our stupidity.
