What’s that in the background? A run-down dictatorship? Our politicians (South Africa) are no better:

Ugly architecture, an ugly icon, ugly people. None of this is an accident of birth or fate, but the result of ugly ideas.

  2. darrylb says:

As much as I cannot tolerate our current pres and how he has divided our country, If his presence in Cuba reduces intolerable human rights conditions in Cuba regardless of the motive, I would support his involvement in Cuba.
Of course, I have no idea of how much of that would be accomplished. However, even if it helped a little I would support this action.

    • leftinflagstaff says:

That requires a removal of communists/socialist leaders from the island. Not another going to visit.

    • Justa Joe says:

It may cause more human rights abuses because BHO has given his stamp of approval to the communist regime. Now it’s Katie bar the door as far as commie reprisals on their enemies with a flood of American resources coming in.

      • darrylb says:

Left and Justa, I do not doubt that you are correct. I guess I am looking for a little light at the end of some tunnel somewhere. In my cursory study of all presidents, I think our current one ranks number one, when one starts at the very bottom and goes up.

The greatest increase in anger in the U. S. I have ever witnessed has been caused to a significant degree, but not solely by BHO.
To put that in perspective, I had not yet heard of Viet Nam when I graduated from High School.

    • rachase says:

The politics of oppression in Cuba are NOT going to be affected one iota by obama’s visit. The government rules with an iron hand that must make obama envious.

  3. omanuel says:

Obama probably does not realize that the course of world history and his own life were altered by the decision on 24 OCT 1945 to unite nations and national academy of sciences.

    • Please stop spamming this. It ruins the discussion.

      • omanuel says:

Thank you for your patience. I certainly do not seek to distract from this site. This fall I will be one-third as old as this once-great nation, 240 years (1776-2016). I witnessed the concurrent and seemingly unrelated destruction of
_ a.) Constitutional limits on government, and
        _ b.) The integrity of government science . . .
over my entire research career before Climategate emails revealed the connection in late Nov 2009. I must apologize for being too anxious to communicate the message I myself overlooked for most of my life.

    • Oliver, my suggestion was only halfway tongue in cheek. Give a try to the elegance and “subtlety” of Cato the Elder or at least Inigo Montoya. Style and timing are everything.

O’s mentor, Frank Marshal Davis must be so proud.

  6. Henry P says:

Obama is doing fine in Cuba. I just saw it here on TV (CNN)
Friendship and -trade is what makes you rich
War and rape is what makes you poor.

    • It’ll have nothing to do with Obama. They alone can force a return to the pre-Castro days.

    • Castro tried to kill many of my relatives. So you can take your opinion and place it where it belongs.

      • Henry P says:

So, you have too much hate inside of you. You have to learn to forgive. For your own good. Basic Judaic and Christian wisdom.
Rom 12:20 But if the enemy be hungry, give him to eat; if he thirst, give him to drink. For, doing this, thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head.

Obama is doing just fine. Good speech in Havana. Bringing the two countries together.

      • What’s your problem, Tony? Obama is doing just fine. He gave a good speech. Henry saw it on TV.

      • Keitho says:

Castro pointed nuclear missiles at the heart of America from 90 miles off of our shore.

That deserves not one scintilla of forgiveness. Not one.

        • Henry P says:

Mat 18:21 Then coming up to Him, Peter said, Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Until seven times?
Mat 18:22 Jesus said to him, I do not say to you, Until seven times, but, Until seventy times seven.
Mat 18:23 Because of this the kingdom of Heaven has been compared to a man, a king, who desired to take account with his slaves.
Mat 18:24 And he having begun to reckon, one debtor of ten thousand talents was brought near to him.
Mat 18:25 But he not having any to repay, the lord commanded him to be sold, also his wife and children, and all things, as much as he had, even to pay back.
Mat 18:26 Then having fallen down, the slave bowed the knee to him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay all to you.
Mat 18:27 And being filled with pity, the lord of that slave released him and forgave him the loan.
Mat 18:28 But having gone out, that slave found one of his fellow slaves who owed him a hundred denarii. And seizing him, he choked him, saying, Pay me whatever you owe.
Mat 18:29 Then having fallen down at his feet, his fellow slave begged him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay all to you.
Mat 18:30 But he would not, but having gone away he threw him into prison until he should pay back the amount owing.
Mat 18:31 But his fellow slaves, seeing the things happening, they were greatly grieved. And having come they reported to their lord all the things happening.
Mat 18:32 Then having called him near, his lord said to him, Wicked slave! I forgave you all that debt, since you begged me.
Mat 18:33 Ought you not also to have mercy on your fellow slave, as I also had mercy?
Mat 18:34 And being angry, his lord delivered him up to the tormentors until he pay back all that debt to him.
Mat 18:35 So also My heavenly Father will do to you unless each of you from your hearts forgive his brother their deviations.

This is my interpretation of what this scripture says:
God forgave you everything you did wrong in your life to [still] go on to Heaven (after you die).
All He asks from you is to do the same to all people who wronged you?

Looks to me most people here have forgotten even most of our Lord’s prayer: e.g.
Mat 6:12 …..and forgive us our debts as we also forgive our debtors.

          Just do it!

        • Keitho says:

You, and Jesus, make a fair point Henry. In the event the missiles had been fired upon America how forgiving would the survivors be I wonder?

I am not really a “turn the other cheek” sort of person though. More of a “nip it in the bud” type. In the face of genocide I think stern disapproval should be the very least of the responses available. I fully expected, and hoped, that Clinton or Bush Jr. would normalize relations with Cuba on terms that would embody America’s antipathy to such missile behaviour. As it happens it seems Obama hasn’t even got an acknowledgement that the Russian nukes were a bad idea from Raoul.

          A Chacun son gout Henry.

        • Neal S says:

Henry quotes bible about forgiving other people. But that is just it, we are to forgive people. There is nothing in there about forgiving nation/states. Nation/states are different from people. There may be people in them, but they are not the same as people.

God himself does not forgive nation/states unless they turn from their ways and turn towards him. You would ask us to do something that God himself does not do.

        • Henry P says:

Clearly, I am following the thread where it appeared that Steven aka Tony blames a person [Castro] for damage done?

        • Neal S says:

I just want to make it clear that the Nation/State of Cuba does not does not deserve our forgiveness, whether or not Castro himself does. Being ‘nice’ to Cuba is just another one of the BHO’s terrifically bad things to do. It is up to Tony to decide if he wants to extend personal forgiveness to Castro. That can be a very hard thing to do. Unless you have found yourself in a position where you need to forgive someone who has murdered your kinfolk, it can be easy to urge that others should be so forgiving. And Tony didn’t say whether he forgave or not … what he wrote was “That deserves not one scintilla of forgiveness.” and I would have to agree with that.

        • Henry P says:

Again, as I always say, “without love, Heaven cannot exist”

    • Justa Joe says:

Castro took over Cuba by way of a violent revolution (like all commies), and now they’re poor so maybe there’s a kernel of truth in there somewhere.

    • catweazle666 says:

“War and rape is what makes you poor.”

Perfectly exemplified by the decent into lawlessness and economic chaos by the advent of black rule in South Africa, of course.

As for erstwhile Rhodesia, once the breadbasket of Africa and now one of the World’s most deprived and lawless regions…

    • Ernest Bush says:

The real problem here is that Obama is not staying in Cuba. Just dreaming.

  7. Andy DC says:

I bet Trump can’t wait to line Havana with hotels and casinos. It will make Vegas look like child’s play and be a tourist destination next to none. As long as Raul gets his cut, he won’t give a crap about capitalist imperialists.

  8. Justa Joe says:

Nothing makes a lefty (press corpse included) happier than rubbing it in the face of middle America.

  9. Obama and Castro greeted each other with a secret communist handshake, and did a seance for Karly boy.

  10. Now would be a great time to pass a law keeping the Kenyan catamite there. Let him live out the rest of his life in his self-chosen paradise.

  11. Drcrinum says:

I was stationed on a destroyer operating out of Guantanamo during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1961. We went on patrol every third day with loaded guns to stalk the Russian trawlers transporting the IRBMs to Cuba. People today have no appreciation for how close we came to nuclear war with Russia at that time. Also, it wasn’t learned until years later that the Russians secretly had shipped 100 tactical nuclear warheads into Cuba. Had war actually broken out, the Southern USA would have been toast.

    • annieoakley says:

I remember it very well. We were happy (for the first time) that my father was in Vietnam because it was not as dangerous as Norfolk.

    • catweazle666 says:

“People today have no appreciation for how close we came to nuclear war with Russia at that time.”

I remember it very well indeed.

On the day it all came to a head, lessons at school were cancelled, because there was no certainty that education would be of any further use. A very scary time.

As I remember, we came within twenty minutes of apocalypse.

Now the Leftys tell me that they are frightened of a few ppm of CO2 or a Trump Presidency…they truly don’t know they’re born.

Obama’s “religion of peace” is at it again in Brussels now.
And lefty’s want to import them into every western country.
Bloody hell! Deport the lefty’s to Syria & Iraq, I say.
