The Orwellian World Of The Left

So much of left wing thought is a kind of playing with fire, by people who don’t even know that fre is hot.

except those that live in Calif.
    They will rule the earth
…until China gets nukes on the back of the moon
and have plenty of cheap labor to do their gardens!

I wonder if any of the power failures in Minnesota have anything to do with renewables.

I believe that both Aurora, IL and Dubuque, IA broke their records today for coldest maximum temperature of all time! Someone might want to double check this, but if so quite amazing. Chicago missed by one degree and about 15 minutes with midnight maximum of -10. Afternoon maximum was not much higher than -15, which would have crushed the old record.

St Louis set a new low high for the date. I also read that even Florida saw temps below zero. So much for our ice free Arctic! I’d be happy with an ice free bird bath right now.

Somebody nearby needs to tell Ms Beth Seidl that she is signing her own death warrant if she wants to cease using natural gas when the external temperatures are -20F or so

Not that it would be a bad thing, necessarily, considering the spokeswoman.

The papers tomorrow will be chock-a-block full of stories about the “plight of the homeless” in these frigid conditions. I would report the inevitable freezing fatalities as measures of Darwinian justice. Those too stupid to come in from the brutal cold are too pathetic to garner public sympathy.

Forrest Gump said “Stupid is as stupid does” and he could not have been more right.

  5. Buck Turgidson says:

The relatively low environmental risks of fracking are quite remarkable. There are very few to my knowledge documented instances of any fracking operation contaminating water supplies, alarmist propaganda like Gasland notwithstanding.

  6. 63F is about the same as in my living room right now, 17C. It is really cold, you can’t stay there for any period of time without wearing outside clothing. Soon I will stop my work and spend two hours at the fire getting the temperature up to something reasonable.

Traditionally my “alternative” energy are hydro and wood. Wood is right now on the brink of getting banned completely, I have a new, approved fire stove fitting new regulations. Hydro is heavily taxed. Our countryside is brimming with windmills, rotating even if there is absolutely no wind (they need to spin all the time). I can get 100k dollar in state support if I install solar power, but there is little or no sun at 65 degrees north.

When I were young we had timers turning on the electricity when we woke up and when we came home from work. Today there is a lot of talk about “smart grids”, but the grim reality of them is that they need to supply the power needed at the coldest day.

Just realize that some people thrives when other people suffer.

  7. Gamecock says:

Never underestimate the decadence of the Left, and their childish belief that things just happen. When you don’t know where the gas comes from, it’s easy to assume the supply is infinite.

  8. Louis Hooffstetter says:

    “Ignorance is bliss.”

The phrase ‘alternative forms of energy’ easily rolls off the tongues of progressives, but they have no idea how much the US actually produces or uses, and they don’t like nuclear or hydro power.

In 2016, the US produced about 84.1 quadrillion British thermal units (Btu), but consumed about 97.5 quadrillion Btu (we had to import 13.4 quadrillion Btu). Of the energy we produced, ‘renewable energy’ accounted for 14.94 %. But 45.71% of the ‘renewable energy’ was generated by hydroelectric power, and 46.8% was generated by burning biofuel and ‘other biomass’ (garbage?). So ~92.5% of the ‘renewable energy’ generated in 2016 was created using methods progressives abhor, and only ~7.5% (of the 14.94% of renewable energy) was generated using methods they approve of (wind and solar). That means only 1.12% of the energy we generated (not consumed) in 2016 was generated using methods that progressives approve of.

Congress members Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez & Ed Markey are proposing legislation to “get America to 100% ‘renewable energy’ ASAP”. They may not be clueless as to what this means, but they are counting on the fact that most Americans are. Their plan will squander an enormous amount of tax dollars (our money), create an unreliable electric grid, and produce energy that will likely cost 3x to 5x as much as we currently pay.
