So true! Russia would love for us to shackle ourselves in good intentions.

  2. Jan de Jong says:

This is aimed at Europe I think, not so much the US. And successfully so unfortunately.

  3. arn says:

This is a far more realistic scenario of a collusion
as russia is interessted in selling their gas.
And the less gas the USA sell the bigger the russian market share.(+an increase is gas prizes is very likely so the russians win twice)

Now the interessting thing is that noone cares about this nor would democrats/msm care if Trump would do what the russians want in this specific case.In fact he does the opposite.

“A powerful US congressional committee has alleged that Russia financed major environmental organizations and used social media to support opponents of the Dakota Access pipeline, fracking and fossil fuels.

“The Republican-controlled committee claimed in a new report that the Kremlin is attempting to make “‘useful idiots’ of unwitting environmental groups and activists” to further its global agenda.

“US energy exports to European countries are increasing, which means they will have less reason to rely upon Russia for their energy needs,” said Lamar Smith, the Republican chairman of the House committee on science, space and technology, in a statement. This helps explain “why Russian agents attempted to manipulate Americans’ opinions about pipelines, fossil fuels, fracking and climate change”.

If the demosnakes accuse it you know they are up to their necks in it. That’s just facts.

  8. Jerry says:

I can only imagine how much Putin is spending to brainwash the German’s into believing the only solution to the nonexistent threat of global warming is to buy their nat. gas.

The completion of the Nordstream II pipeline will give Putin serious financial and political leverage over the EU.

  9. The same applies to the Chinese Communist Party. By funding those who demonise coal, China depresses the market securing coal reserves for its own use and cheaper coal from places like Australia.

Coal provides cheap reliable power so by encouraging Western economies to move away from coal to “clean” energy systems, which are up to 3 times more expensive, China helps those economies be less competitive than its own; thereby gaining a significant advantage on the International market.

By lending assistance to Greens and unions, China gains a distinct advantage over Western democracies which have to tolerate the behaviour of these two groups whereas the Chinese Communist Party does not.

The really sad part of all this, that the report to congress in 2017 on Russian attempting to influence the 2016 election had this same reporting, that the Russians were influencing the US’s anti fracking movement. The link is to the actual report to congress and this paragraph is located in Appendix A page 8, to quote the report

(Russia) “runs anti-fracking programming, highlighting environmental issues and the impacts on public health. This is likely reflective of the Russian Government’s concern about the impact of fracking and US natural gas production on the global energy market and the potential challenges to Gazprom’s profitability”.

Everyone focused on the Russian influencing our elections but forgot about Russian influencing our energy policies. Russia has funneled millions of dollars thru shell corporations in the Caymans to aid US “green” groups.

Rush calls Russia a 3rd world country with a 1st world military. I agree. And the fact is what keeps Russia from sinking even lower is oil and NG revenue. Makes up about 1/3 of their GDP and nearly 1/2 the revenue going into their government coffers.

Well looks to me Russia is the Master of the Universe after all…
or this is yet another blame the Russians game… especially when the amount of subsidies given to greens by the not very Russian EU had done more to damage itself than the big bear…
But hey since a NATO think tank says it… It MUST be true. LOL

In addition, the state-owned national grid network Tennet recently won a court case allowing it to back-date the cost of investments to private households. This too is likely to add to energy bills, the VEH says.

The extra investment is needed to connect solar farms and wind turbines to the national grid.

  15. Logic n reason says:

During the cold war the Soviets funded CND in the UK and other campaign groups across Europe to try and stop the deployment of cruise and pershing 2 missiles. The Kremlin had found their useful idiots in these campaigners whose leaders never seemed to condemn the militaristic nature of the Red Square parades which showed off Soviet Military hardware! Both China and Russia have vested interests in influencing the West in spending vast amounts of GDP on carbon neutral technology. I also notice this morning that Oxfam let slip what I see as the real agenda of the climate alarmist when it stated that poorer nations are suffering because of richer nations carbon emissions and that those wicked countries must do more to help the poorer ones. i.e. The climate change agenda is not about climate but a propaganda tool for wealth redistribution.

  16. Frances says:

You might ask the people of Chinchilla, Queensland, what they think of fracking coal seam gas where the toxic gas from underground fires has caused severe pollution to the Condamine River, the ground water, soil and air, putting hundreds of square kilometers of prime agricultural land at risk.

  17. Don B says:

    From Ridley’s article:

“The Russians also lobbied behind the scenes against shale gas, worried about losing their grip on the world’s gas supplies. Unlike most conspiracy theories about Russian meddling in Western politics, this one is out there in plain sight. The head of Nato, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, said the Russians, as part of a sophisticated disinformation operation, “engaged actively with so-called non-governmental organisations — environmental organisations working against shale gas — to maintain Europe’s dependence on imported Russian gas”.

“The Centre for European Studies found that the Russian government has invested $95 million in NGOs campaigning against shale gas. Russia Today television ran endless anti-fracking stories, including one that “frackers are the moral equivalent of paedophiles”. The US Director of National Intelligence stated that “RT runs anti-fracking programming … reflective of the Russian Government’s concern about the impact of fracking and US natural gas production on the global energy market and the potential challenges to Gazprom’s profitability.” Pro-Russian politicians such as Lord Truscott (married to a Russian army colonel’s daughter) made speeches in parliament against fracking.”

  18. Barry says:

Is any of this story true? I couldn’t find an original source, though there’s a Guardian piece from 2014 with the same story. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2014/jun/19/russia-secretly-working-with-environmentalists-to-oppose-fracking

Whether the story is true or not, bashing Russia is a great fallback when it’s a slow news day. Pity that this admirable site has to join in.
