Highly Confidential : For Your Eyes Only

I am applying for a patent to recharge electric cars overnight using solar cells. I expect every progressive in the country to purchase it.

This sounds like a no-brainer Government Grant.

  2. John Silver says:

Bah, I already invented the moon cell.

  3. Stephen Richards says:

And they will. They did after all sign the petition to ban di-hydro-oxygen. H²O

  4. sean2829Sean says:

Kind of like using solar energy to keep the lights on…without an energy storage system.

  5. The back-radiation from all the CO2 should make it work great!

  6. Somebody already beat you to it:

New renewable energy device generates power from the emission of infrared from the device to the atmosphere

    http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/03/140303154015.htm

Hmmm I wonder why this works by heat flow from the warmer device to the colder atmosphere with all that 333 W/m2 backradiation from CO2 shining on the device continuously 24/7. /sarc

  7. Ima says:

    Harnessing dark energy…

  8. You might laugh, but they’re already well ahead of you over here.

Apparently the plan is to charge up electric cars from windmills at night, when demand is low, and —wait for it——

Connect the same cars to the grid the next morning to draw the power out of their batteries to top up the grid again!

You could not make it up.

Still, its a good excuse for being in late at work:

“Sorry sir, I had to walk to work again, because the stupid progressives needed my electricity”

  9. Gail Combs says:

It’s the 12450 mile long extension cord that is going to be the royal ass bitch…

    • Colorado Wellington says:

… and it would not work. The cords would get tangled for all the cars out there charging but there is a better way:

A self-driving Google car can follow the sun west when you go to sleep and come in the morning from the east all fresh and charged up.

Still working on few minor details like how to cross the oceans, avoid toll-roads and Somali pirates but the concept is clear.

    I’m in!

Maybe we can harness the missing heat also?

  11. Gail Combs says:

Why would any engineer wish to tap into and exploit the 161 w/m2 of fickle solar energy, which does not exist at night, and has far less power in winter time when they could tap into a nice stable 333w/m2 from DWLWIR that is available 24/7 come rain or shine? Why are we spending so much money on developing solar ‘photoelectric’ panels instead of some form of DWLWIR collector/converter?

After all we KNOW the Down Welling Long Wave Infrared Radiation (DWLWIR) exists because Dr.Trenberth shows it on his Earth energy balance cartoon and 97% of Climate Scientists agree it is true and so does the IPCC and Obama.

Isn’t it time for us to call our Congressmen and Senators and ask them why, since the science is settle, we are wasting tax dollars on intermittent solar and wind farms? Afterall we KNOW that DWLWIR exists and there is so much more of it that solar energy,

We need to get petitions going!

We need to march on Washington!

This needs to be the biggest issue in the up coming election!

  12. Gamecock says:

Unless you contributed to Obama’s campaign, you’ll get nothing. If you did contribute, you wouldn’t need an actual invention to get funding.

  13. Streetcred says:

I have one that does that already that taps into the heat re-radiated at night by the CO2 … I just know that it works but can’t encourage the batteries to hold the charge. /sarc

  14. The Griss says:

Don’t you lot worry.. The world will start heating up again soon…….

…… once they replace the two main guys looking after the satellite record.

  15. chris y says:

Sorry Steven, but I think commercialized prior art will impinge on the patentability of your idea. For example, here-

    http://reneweconomy.com.au/2013/not-so-cool-first-solars-moonshine-story-was-moonshine-14869

Back in June, 2013, First Solar claimed that their 136MW solar PV farm at Antelope Valley was generating 1 MW of power during the ‘super moon.’
When Giles Parkinson dutifully published the extraordinary story, several readers commented that it was a ridiculous claim. One reader suggested that the operators were reading the wrong energy register on the meter, i.e. energy consumed from the grid rather than energy delivered to the grid. Giles spoke to senior executives at First Solar, who assured him that the story was correct.

The next day, First Solar retracted the whole sorry PR mess. I blame the moonbeam deniers who pointed out the ridiculousness of First Solar’s claim.

Of course, this still provides a stumbling block for any claims you may have in your provisional patent application, since it has already been reduced to practice in a commercial setting :-).

  16. I have an Idea that Progressives will Love! A Device that Uses the Car Battery to Recharge the Car Battery while the car is not running! They will go Nuts For this and I should get A Major Green Energy Grant to help develop it!!!
