UK Climate Moron Of The Day

But it is worse than it seems. On this side of the pond, it was 84 degrees in DC, and cherry trees were blooming during November 1946.

And it gets worse. That was after a record early bloom in March 1946

Who broke the planet and caused the RWP and MWP? Did someone leave the global fridge door open?

First time David has ever slept with the windows open in November! Wow, maybe David will get his first bicycle this Christmas!

    • Gail Combs says:

Well it was friggin’ below freezing in OCTOBER and we had the heat on in sunny soggy mid North Carolina. NOAA may show a warm blob in the Atlantic but so far it has been a COLD fall here.

  2. Dave N says:

Buckley probably uses the same argument against evolution, since he’s unlikely to recall any changes in the animal kingdom whatsoever.

  3. It’s too early to call climate moron of the day, especially with Phillip Shi-head and Martin Bullschmidt posting in all their glory.

  4. 1saveenergy says:

This is the same David Joss Buckley who lives in the fantasy worlds of ‘Eastenders’ & ‘Emerdale’
    He doesn’t do facts…only fiction !!
    He’ a Gemini
    – Superficial
    – Impulsive
    – Restless
    – Devious
    – Indecisive
    Say no more !!

note to self – FFS get out more !!

  5. Justa Joe says:

I guess that weather isn’t climate mantra only counts when it’s unseasonably cool.

  6. Don’t mock the guy – it’s the first sign of serious illness when your internal temperature regulation goes haywire like this and you start needing to sleep with the window open.

  7. Yes, it’s a warm day in November, and I know it’s due to global warming because the earth is 0.6 C warmer than it was in 1880 and I can feel when it’s 0.6 C warmer.

    • Jason Calley says:

Ha! Yes, good point. I defy anyone to step outside and reliably, consistently and repeatably tell me without instrumentation what the temperature is to with one degree. Even with a thermometer you will have a hard time. Now try that with the average temperature for the day. Even harder! Now try that for the average temperature of the state. And the country. And the entire globe (including the oceans!). Even if you could do that, you still have not found out much because temperature is not an intrinsic property and does not tell you whether more or less energy is being added to the system. Besides, the so-called average is being based strictly on high and low readings. Which site is warmer? One with a ltemperature of 50 degrees for 23 hours and a temperature of 61 degrees for the remaining hour, or one which is 50 degrees for one hour and 60 degrees for the remaining 23 hours? So called “climate science” says that the first is warmer.

      Madness!

    • Andy DC says:

It has been a very mild November so far in Washington, DC, with temperatures getting as warm as 80 degrees. You think it must be due to climate change until you look at the records and see that it was 85 during November 1974, 84 during November 1975 and 83 during November 1993, So as usual, when you check the weather records, you discover there is very little going on that has not happened before.

  8. John B() says:

My wife ALWAYS slept with the windows open in November IN WISCONSIN. I had to put my foot down to get to close the window in December.

    • gator69 says:

Bragging about your hot wife is off topic. 😉

    • PeterK says:

Actually, sleeping with the window open in my opinion is healthier. My wife and I crack the window open a couple of inches every night and we generally do this up to and around -20 C. Once it drops below this, I find it just too cold.

      • Gail Combs says:

It is healthier. Air exchange lowers the # microbes/ unit vol.

Also among other things temps below 55 F shuts down dustmites (can’t find ref.) Dustmites like temperatures of 68° to 84°F and humidity levels at 75 to 80 percent. Therefore if you have allergies, sleeping with the window open in cold weather can really help.

…Very high humidities can inhibit mite development due to the presence of mold growth. Humidity levels above 88%, in particular, lead to mold growth, which restrains mite development. Humidity levels which are very low can also inhibit mite development. Mites contain about 70% to 75% water by weight and must maintain this in order to reproduce. Their primary source of water is ambient water vapor.

Thus, for a given number of mites, the highest levels of allergens found in the environment usually correspond to optimal humidity conditions. Arlian (1992) examined the effect of RH on mite metabolism for a range of relative humidities between 22% and 95% and observed that feeding rates, and consequently the amount of fecal matter produced, increased with increasing RH. The effect was particularly significant between 75% and 85% RH, where there was a fivefold increase in the weight of food consumed for both D. pteronyssinus and D. farinae. Below the CEH (Critical Equilibrium Humidity), Arlian found that mites fed sparingly and produced little fecal matter. These results suggest that significant reductions in the level of mite allergens, which consist primarily of fecal matter, may occur if RH is reduced below the CEH. (For more detailed information on the mite life-cycle and metabolism, see Arlian [1992].)
        Dust Mite Facts
        Genus: Dermatophagoides; Mites are Arachnids

Habitat: Mites live in carpet, fabric upholstery, and mattresses.
Diet: Human skin scale, animal dander and trace nutrients. Mites need
to absorb humidity, they cannot drink water. Allergen: Dust mite fecal material.
        Body Color: Translucent.
Average Threshold before Developing Allergies: 100 mites/gm of dust

        Temp. Range: approx. 59°F to 95°F (15°C to 35°C)
Relative Humidity Range: approx. 55% to 85%

        • gator69 says:

Geography has much to do with whether or not sleeping with your windows open is healthy. For instance, I would hazard to guess that sleeping with your windows open in Ferguson, Baltimore or Chicago is not going to lead to a longer life.

        • Gail Combs says:

You are right Gator, been living in the country too long. I forgot what it was like to live in the Combat Zone in the Boston Area. (Thank goodness)

        • Ernest Bush says:

Sleeping with a window open in Yuma, AZ, leads to a massive influx of dust particles which include various fungi and molds, some of which can cause valley fever. Also chemical residues from intensive agriculture may accompany the above, depending on which way the wind is blowing.

        • Ernest Bush says:

During August, here, it can give you a low of a sweaty 90 degrees for night time comfort.

      • annieoakley says:

I always crack the window at night unless it is below freezing and there is a breeze.

    • My wife complained yesterday that she was cold, then hot, then cold and hot again, and then one more time around. This was the first time ever it happened 6 times within a 3-hour period in November.

I’m not saying my wife is hot or cool or something. It’s strictly a scientific observation. And in case one of you happens to talk to her, I didn’t say she’s not. Err, never mind …

  9. catweazle666 says:

I can’t sleep without the window open all year round.

  10. rah says:

Most of the time until it gets down to below 20 deg. F we sleep with a bedroom window open and our bedroom door open also. All the larger rooms in the house have ceiling fans and ours in the bedroom is always on at night. The windows in our bedroom are the awning type that are hinged at the top so we can leave them open even in a regular rain.
