Prof Slingo said: “If you look at the way our weather patterns have behaved over the past four or five years, we’re beginning to think that there is something happening.
“Our climate is being disrupted by the warming of the Arctic that we have observed very dramatically since 2007.
“We should pull together the best scientists to see how we can detect the influence of the Arctic on the jet stream, and on weather around the world.”
Translation :
Our theory failed, so we made up a sciency sounding story which hopefully will keep our funding coming in. Now we need lots of money to produce fake evidence that our fake theory is correct.

Junk Scientists believe Chinese coal plants actually reduced global warming in this decade.
Michael D. Lemonick at Climate Central reported on this curious development back in 2011:
Trenberth himself has suggested that the slowdown in the 2000’s happened because excess heat was being stored temporarily in the deep ocean. But a new paper published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences offers a different explanation. The cause, argues lead author Robert K. Kaufmann, of Boston University’s Center for Energy and Environmental Studies, is another type of pollution — specifically, sulfur emissions from Chinese power plants. “Chinese coal consumption,” he points out, “has doubled in just four years, and they were using plenty to begin with.”
If unchecked by pollution controls, the sulfur creates atmospheric particles that reflect some sunlight back into space, counteracting the warming effect from rising amounts of CO2. “The short story,” says Kaufmann, “is that all of a sudden the human effects on climate cancel out during this period.”
It wouldn’t be the first time this has happened. During the middle of the 20th century, the planet went into a slight cooling phase that lasted for about 30 years. The cause: a rise in sulfate particles as the world’s economy boomed after World War II.

The alarmist climate scientists don’t like to emphasise this one for good reason.
If it was true (which it isn’t) it would offer a way to fix global warming that would actually save the world money: simply turn off all the flue gas desulfurization FGD) units which the EPA made the coal fired power stations add to their plants in the last few decades.
Then relax the sulfur limits on coal and oil which the EPA brought in during the acid rain scare.
Global warming would be fixed by burning more dirtier coal than we burn now.
This is the logical conclusion from the its-China-wot-dun-it hypothesis. Very very inconvenient for our politically motivated alarmist friends, so they tend not to talk about it much.

I always point them to the terrible UK winter of 1978/79. The Arctic was at its maximum extent on the record. Then there are the winters of 1927-28, 1962/63, 1946-47 among others. Would they argue that September Arctic ice extent was as low as now?

With each flimsy new attempt to shore up their disintegrating AGW theory, the alarmist soothsayers are becoming the laughingstock of the scientific community. If we are “loading the dice” (actually a flawed analogy) without intent or design why does it always result in bad things happening? Shouldn’t the results be randomly distributed between good and bad thing?
Slingherhook talks about a dice, but flips like a coin.
I think you can put forward the argument that farmland is located in regions that are presently arable and that *any* change would have a negative impact for humans. I think that is a reasonable point to make, but if we’re talking about small changes over 100 years or so, then we’re going to have time to adapt, so it’s something of a moot point.
I appreciate your explanation of the warmist rationale, but I cannot accept it. Nowhere is the climate custom made to order to what man wants. Every usage of the environment that man does is done at a compromise with mother nature. Arable land spans many various local climates. It would take a helluva change to really affect it detrimentally, and some changes could actually improve it.
In light of the late Steven Schneider’s premature ice age alarmism of the 1970s, we could call this latest episode, “Back to the Future.” Or is that “Blast from the past?” Ouch, my head hurts.

The Met office PR machine says one thing, but in reality they are clueless.
It is a weak reply by skeptics to say AGW does not cause more extreme weather. Warming causes less extreme weather by reducing seasonality by reducing the temperature gradient from poles to equator. It is weak reply to say AGW does not cause more desertification when it causes less.

One of the most basic arguments against AGW is that the warming goes mostly to the coldest places and times, the poles and winters.
