Summers Before The Dreaded Heat Index

On this date last year, 100 degree weather was confined to the southwest US.  This is fairly typical for summers in recent years.

But in the past, 100 and 110 degree temperatures were frequently widespread across much of the US. On this date in 1934, it was 113 degrees in Minnesota, 80% of the US was in drought, and police shot 50 people in Minneapolis – but at least people didn’t have to face the dreaded “heat index.”

Lots of other hot years too.

Quantifying Heatwave Hysteria

Lots of news about record heat in the Midwest.

The Union of Concerned Scientists says that heat is going to make the Midwest become unlivable in future decades.

Let’s see how their claims compare with reality. Yesterday was the hottest day of the summer in the Midwest. The peak temperature was 97 degrees, and the average temperature was 91.7 degrees.

Compare vs. July 14, 1936 when Illinois and Indiana were 114 degrees, Iowa and Wisconsin were 113 degrees, Missouri was 112 degrees, Minnesota and Ohio were 110 degrees, and Michigan was a nice, cool 108 degrees. Average temperature in the Midwest was 106 degrees – more than fourteen degrees warmer than this year’s hottest day.

The graph plots the average Midwest temperature for every July day since 1895.  The hottest day of 2019 was about six degrees above the median July temperature of 85 degrees.

The hottest day of 2019 was just above the median peak temperature for all July days.

The average July daily maximum temperature has been declining in the Midwest since the 19th century, with this year just about average so far.  However, with cool air moving into the Midwest, it is likely that July, 2019 will drop considerably before the month is over.

The likelihood of hot July weather in the Midwest has plummeted since the 1930’s, with all recent years being among the coolest on record.

Compare vs. an actual heatwave from the 1930’s.

The Union of Concerned Scientists is making claims which have no basis in science, and are the exact opposite of reality.  Their agenda has nothing to do with science.

The End Is Near …

The end of the Arctic melting scam is near. This week should be peak ice loss in the Arctic Basin, and there is little or no ice being lost.

Meanwhile, climate alarmists are screaming about an imaginary Arctic heatwave at Alert, Nunavut – which looks like it never actually happened.

The warmest temperature at Alert this month was 54F – not 70F. Maybe someone took a temperature reading in his living room near the fireplace.

It Is Not The Heat, It’s The …..

July 10, 1936 was the hottest day on record in New York City.  Temperatures reached 106 degrees at the Central Park Observatory.

White privilege went on as normal, the Yankees crushed the Indians.

Black privilege did too. Jesse Owens qualified for the Olympics.

Horse shows and races went on in the 106 degree heat.

But now people shut down in 93 degree weather.

Saturday, Friday racing canceled at Ellis Park due to heat

Henderson, KY Forecast | Weather Underground

I rode my bike up the hill to NCAR in the middle of the afternoon today. I never use A/C and exercise in the heat every day.  So heat doesn’t bother me. Nobody had air conditioning in 1936, and nobody was addicted to it.

A Tale Of Two NASAs

Fifty years ago today, thousands of engineers, scientists and astronauts put a man on the moon.  This required near perfection, honesty and integrity from everyone involved.

But NASA is no longer able to put people in space, and rely on the Russians to do it for them. Instead they focus on tampering with climate data for political purposes, and making Muslims feel good.

Barack Obama: Nasa must try to make Muslims ‘feel good’ – Telegraph

The Challenger disaster in 1986 was the beginning of the end for NASA – engineers were overruled by administrators, who tried to cover up their malfeasance with lies.

The author of this book is no relation the James E Hansen of NASA, who created another long term disaster for the agency in 1988.

Global Warming Has Begun, Expert Tells Senate – The New York Times

If climate scientists were in charge of the space program, no rocket would ever make it to the launch pad, much less get off the ground. You can’t run a space program based on incompetence, lies and tampered data. Which is why the people who took us to the moon fifty years ago, want NASA to stop lying about climate.

July 9, 1876 – 102 Degrees In New York

On July 9, 1876 it was 102 degrees in New York City during a protracted term of intensely hot weather. But no one was hysterical about the weather, like they get about 95 degree weather now.

The New York Times was also lamenting the massacre of the hero General Custer – another part of history which they have since re-written.

July 8, 1876 – 110 Degrees In New Jersey

On July 8, 1876 it was 110 degrees in New Jersey, and hundreds of infants died in New York.

Sixty years later on July 9, 1936 – it was 115 degrees in Times Square, and Jesse Owens was jumping 26 feet.

Troubling Times For Arctic Alarmists

Climate alarmists believe there is as massive heatwave going on in the Arctic.

Eric Holthaus on Twitter: “Another stunning record this week

But the ice has a different opinion. Over the past week, there has been very little ice loss in the Arctic Basin. The ice edge has been growing in the East Siberian Sea and Chukchi Seas. In order to get a big melt this summer, there would have to be a lot of ice loss in the Beaufort Sea before the end of July.

Index of /DATASETS/NOAA/G02135/north/daily/images/2019/07_Jul/

The bad news for alarmists is that the Beaufort Sea is going to be very cold this week.

10-Day Temperature Outlook

The next map overlays the below freezing temperature forecast for the next nine days in blue. The big melt which alarmists need is not going to happen.

Update : Over the past 24 hours there has been almost no change in Arctic ice extent.

And the Northwest Passage is blocked with 100% concentration ice.
