Since the first of the year, only 15% of days in the US have been above 65F. This is the coolest start to a year in a quarter century, and seventh coolest in 110 years.  The warmest year was 1910, when 30% of days were above 65F through April 15.

A number of climatologists. whose job it is to keep an eye on long-term weather changes, have lately been predicting deterioration of the benign climate to which we have grown accustomed. They point to signs both great (a steady global cooling trend since World War II) and quaint (the south-ward retreat from Nebraska of the warmth-loving armadillo) to support their claim that the coming years will feature colder, more erratic weather. It should be obvious to anyone with an IQ higher than a turnip, that humans do better in warm climates than they do in cold climates. That is why almost everyone in Canada lives along their southern border, and why tens of millions of Americans have migrated south.

Hurricane Michael has been upgraded to a category 5 hurricane (sustained wind speeds above 155 MPH.)  When Michael made landfall, the highest reported wind gust was 119 MPH.

Through April 15, only 15% of days in Colorado have been above 60F. Average is 23% of days, with the peak year being 1907, when 46% of days prior to April 15 were over 60F. This is the coolest start to a year since 1993, when dust from the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo dimmed the skies.
