Clown Or Criminal?

Last year :

“We conclude that there has been no reduction in the global warming trend of 0.15-0.20°C/decade (~ .3 F/decade) that began in the late 1970s.”

Hansen and the other authors warn that relying on short-term weather cues is not only misleading, but dangerous:

“Given our conclusion that global warming is continuing unabated, and that this conclusion differs from some popular conceptions, we discuss reasons for such perceptions including the influence of short-term weather and climate fluctuations.”

Big news today. Climatologists learn to distinguish between a positive and negative slope.

A new study demonstrates why global surface temperatures defied a decades-long trend and didn’t continue to rise between 1998 and 2008

A research panel consisting of Dr. Hansen, the Mad Hatter and the March Hare concluded that tea cup cyclones are going to be much more frequently in Wonderland.

    ========================================
    1970 – 2011 = 41

    .3F X 4 = 1.2F

“The globe has NOT cooled since 1998!” “Temperatures are still going-up catastrophically!” It’s not getting cooler – and sceptics who mislead the faithful with heretical trend lines drawn on unauthorised temperature graphs should be tried for crimes against humanity!”

“Psst! It could be blamed on anthropogenic sulphur emissions!” (Phew that’s a relief!)

    “Hey! It’s getting cooler!”

That’s right. It only seems that way to those who wear blinders and believe that climate History started in 1998.

      “Temperatures are still going-up catastrophically!”

Catastrophically? That depends on your definition of the word and the time period involved. You, never mind me, would probably define “catastrophe” as the dissolution of the nation state you live in. Assuming that is your definition, it may take 40 years.

“It’s not getting cooler – and sceptics who mislead the faithful with heretical trend lines drawn on unauthorised temperature graphs should be tried for crimes against humanity!”

      See you in court.

“Psst! It could be blamed on anthropogenic sulphur emissions!” (Phew that’s a relief!)

The sun’s deepest minimum in a century was more than enough to keep the temperatures from rising higher than they have. Which means that the sun’s lowered activity has been camouflaging the effect Global Warming in the past decade.

      “Hey! It’s getting cooler!”

      Sure, anything you say.

Basically what IWB is saying is the globe won’t warm again without an increase in solar radiation reaching the surface.

Brilliant! Well done IWB! You’re getting it.

I guess you didn’t get the meaning of my explanation. So let me make an exaggerated analogy for clarity’s sake.

Let’s say that AGW is about to increase by a humongous 3C in one year but the sun decides to drop down an astounding 3C lower than its usual average, the same year by coincidence.

The sun’s deep lowering in activity would mask AGW’s steep increase. Then, when the sun goes back to normal, AGW rises up with a vengeance.

  8. slimething says:

    Iwb,
Do you have any idea how silly that is?

Please explain how it works, exactly.
