Reported sexual assaults have increased by 51 percent since 1995, at an average of four percent each year.

We have a march on our state capitol each year that has tureds out 10,000+ gun owners since Zero took office. The march ends in the offices of our state reps and makes an quite impact. Sadly and predictably, the newspapers do not ever cover this event. If they did you would see pictures of the wheelchair bound, and women, demanding their right to protect themselves.
As an Australian I am certain the increase is a result of an increase in the number reported and not an increase in frequency.
The propensity to report sexual assault has increased over the 4 decades since the 70s. This is probably in line with an increasing number of women in the police force seen as a sympathetic reception for complaints of this nature – there were few women in the police until the 90s in Australia.
I am positive this has nothing to do with the gun ban – Australians were predominantly unarmed in the 70s as they are today.
Banning air rifles seems a tad extreme though.
What kind of guns did they ban? All of them or just certain ones?
This chart correlates to the chart illustrating the increase of atmospheric CO2, so that is yet one more thing Lewandowski and McKitten can use to ‘prove’ global warming.
Are you serious? I mean, Internet use has gone up by 50,000% since the Australian gun ban as well, it doesn’t mean that the ban on guns meant everyone rushed to go online.
Nice logic professor. Try linking related subjects next time.
@gator69 The implication is that because there are less guns, sexual assaults have gone up, presumably because women aren’t carrying pistols (like they used to before 1996?). Are there no other reasons for the rise in sexual assaults? Like deteriorating mental health services? Higher reporting because of awareness campaigns? Higher reporting because of less stigma due to the declining influence of the church? Are any of these relevant?
Guns do have an effect on crime.
Guns do NOT effect internet usage.
Please do not tell me that you need this further explained professor.
@gator69 of course guns have an effect on crime – gun crime. Why should they be related to sexual assault?
Now I see your problem. Sorry for you.
Amazing, the leftist mindset. A gun could have no effect on sexual assault. Not even if it prevents it.
“Amazing, the leftist mindset. A gun could have no effect on sexual assault. Not even if it prevents it.”
Hey LIB! They just are not accustomed to looking down the other end of the barrel. đ
Hi Gator–
Yes, a gun as defense does not even enter their mind. Gun = evil. No matter who is holding it. Some psychos using one criminally will always overwhelm, in their mind, the tens of millions who do not. On a daily basis. And most likely for their entire lives.
And they would use this reasoning to penalize the law-abiding for the crimes of the lawless.
Really all a mute point. Our 2nd Amendment is not about protecting us from sexual assault. It’s about protecting us from our politicians. Although, it does include those politicians who would take away our right to defend ourselves from assault.
For the professor…
“woman stopped attacker with gun”
Google returns ober 34,000 entries. Get started! đ
“woman killed by her own gun” – Google returns 202,000,000 entries
Ah, we’ve entered the ‘infringe the rights of all due to the irresponsibility of some’ department.
Again, as it seems I’ve been saying this a lot lately, that argument is the reason we were given the 2nd Amendment. They saw you coming.

“After locking up, a female employee of Cakes and Confections 4U was leaving the business through a back door when she realized she was cornered by two strange men. One man struck her in the jaw while the other ripped off her necklace and earrings. When the men then attempted to sexually assault the woman, she produced a concealed .32 cal. firearm from her waistband and fired. Both men immediately dropped the stolen jewelry and ran. It was last reported that the assailants were still at large. After the incident, the woman said her firearm saved her life and that she had a strong message to all women, âIf you donât have a gun or youâre scared of guns, get familiar with them and get a gun.â

“Brianne Rodriguez heard a knock at her front door just before 9 a.m., but ignored it. A few minutes later, Rodriguez heard loud noises coming from her bedroom. When she went to investigate, she discovered a man wearing a ski mask in her home. The confrontation led to a struggle and Rodriguez was pushed to the floor and kicked in the face and ribs. The masked man then grabbed her screaming 2-year-old daughter and bolted for the door. Rodriguez quickly retrieved a shotgun she kept in her bedroom and followed. Upon seeing the gun, the man dropped the child and fled. He escaped with Rodriguezâs purse and some jewelry, but Rodriguez and her daughter sustained no serious injuries.”

“Martha Lewis was at home with her two daughters when she heard a loud noise. It was 3 a.m., so Lewis immediately called police and grabbed her gun. She went to her daughtersâ room and told them each to get something with which to defend themselves. They were at the top of the stairs when a man, who had kicked in the door and entered the home, spotted them. When the man started up the stairs toward them, Lewis warned the intruder that she would shoot him. When he ignored her warnings, Lewis fired causing him to stumble outside where police found him. The 25-year-old male was hospitalized in stable condition. After the incident, Lewis said, âThereâs so much talk about banning guns and gun control, but theyâre for protection. Thereâs no way that I could have fought him off.â

“When a 23-year-old male followed a woman from the garage area of an apartment complex and assaulted her, the woman went to an apartment for help. The tenant, a friend of the womanâs, was home with his young son. The woman told him the man following her had tried to grope her and made unintelligible statements to her. When the tenant allowed her inside his unit and closed the door, the man began pounding on the door. The tenant grabbed a gun from his bedroom for protection. Before he was able to call police, the perpetrator kicked in the door of the apartment. When the intruder took several steps toward the woman and the boy, the tenant shot him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.”

“Lisa Goude called police when she noticed a man lurking outside her house at about 1:15 a.m. Just two minutes into the call, the man broke through the glass of a kitchen window and entered the home. The 28-year-old intruder refused to leave and attempted to enter Goudeâs bedroom. Goude retrieved a handgun and shot the man once before instructing him to leave her home once again. Despite suffering a gunshot wound, the intruder reportedly came at Goude causing her to fire two more rounds. After suffering two gunshots to the neck and one to the abdomen, the intruder was pronounced dead at the scene. “

“Ruby Hodge, 89, heard someone knock at her back door twice before she decided to answer. By the third knock, however, Hodge heard the door being kicked in. The intruders, two males ages 31 and 42, entered her home and went into the guest bedroom opposite her own. When they turned around Hodge had her .38-cal. pistol waiting. Both men fled, but were later caught. Sheriff Fred Knight said, âI was just amazed. When she told me she met the intruders with a handgun pointed at them, she said they went out faster than they came in. She is my hero!â
âwoman killed by her own gunâ â Google returns 202,000,000 entries
That’s mainly because of “Nancy Lanza”. Her death is being discussed on every news site and blog around the planet. Besides, once again, it has nothing to do with the topic professor.

Your assertion is false. As of Jan 2, 2013, the phrase above yields only 2 hits, and one of them is yours. See for yourself.

I see what you did there … correlation is not causation. Same as climate science!
Must be the Republic of Texas.
Yeah this post is way off. If you actually read the reports from the AIC properly, they do state that the rise in reporting of these incidents in the last 20 years is likely due to the fact that people today are more inclined to report if they have been a victim of sexual assault than say, 20 years ago. Society has changed a lot since then.
And also, the increase in rates are also mainly for children under the age of 15. So are you really trying to suggest that those young children would be better off if they had been carrying a gun around? I don’t see your logic here.
