Coast Guard warns of bad ice year for Atlantic Canada ships
The Canadian Coast Guard is pleading with merchant ships to plan their voyages well in advance this year as the organization’s icebreaker fleet confronts some of the worst ice conditions on the Atlantic Ocean in decades.
“Plan your voyage and we’ll all get through this,” said Mike Voight, the Atlantic region’s director of programs. “We’ve got a pretty bad or challenging ice year.”
The Canadian Ice Service, an arm of Environment Canada, said there is 10 per cent more ice this year compared to the 30-year average.
“We probably haven’t seen a winter this bad as far as ice for the past 25 years,” said Voight, referring to both the amount and thickness of the ice.
He said the Gulf of St. Lawrence is covered and some areas are “quite severe.”

The Canadian GLO-BULL warming is obviously hiding at the bottom of the St Lawrence 😉

Canadian Government Warns Of The Most Atlantic Ice In Decades
Must be rotten ice! Or very, very thin. Very, very thin & rotten. Actually,it must be illusionary ice.
The Canadian Ice Service should have asked “Cryosphere Today” first before saying all this nonsense about ice.
How dare these heretics disagree with the perfect models of “Cryosphere Today”??!!
All of that ice is supposed to be gone by now. Al Gore, the environment’s pal, said so.
Reggie’s blowtorch to the rescue!
How much sea ice do you suppose will be left in the Gulf of St. Lawrence by September?
More than usual? Is this a trick question? BTW, welcome back Reggie!
My name is not Reggie. It’s not a trick question either. However “more than usual” is not the right answer:

You mean after the usual summer melt? You leftard globaloney cult members are just a bunch of frakking geniuses
Do I really need to remind you that is no way to address a lady?
More like a drag queen … you need to do more than dress up in womens clothing to become a lady Reggie 😉
Lots of thick ice in the Beaufort

As I pointed out to Steve recently elsewhere in these hallowed halls, that’s merely the output of a model. Do you believe everything computer models suggest, or only when it suits you? Do they count as “facts”, or not?
No, no, no!
Sure, there is a hell of a lot of ice but the Canadian governemnt forgot to tell you it is all NEW ice! That makes a world of difference, It is new, rotted ice and not the nice classical ice of old.
At least that is what I think I heard the manbearpig bleat out.
Great news! …
@Snow White: that’s the “ice cube” Steve was talking about in the other thread! 🙂
Maybe so. It’s going to dissolve in “the drink” by September though.
Thanks eco idiot. The summer melt usually means melting ice……do they mass produce stupid on planet gore?
I fear you must have missed out on reading my cosy little chat with Dmh about Manhattans and Margaritas!

Thanks TomC for helping us to see the *facts*, the ocean anomalies are more favorable in the Atlantic NW than NE,
http://weather.unisys.com/surface/sst_anom.gif
which is a residual AMO effect.
In the end it’s all good, because the ice is accumulating in the “right direction” and the “recovery” continues apace! 🙂
That Beaufort animation is a beauty. You can see the major fractures open and close in the very thick ice during the time period. Of course alarmists will say that never ever happened before 1979 as the ice cap was totally frozen since the last ice age.
Q: How many alarmists does it take to change a light bulb?
A: 2700 alarmists to model the CO2 impact and a full IPCC alarmist committee to decide to remain in the dark.
Thanks for the tip. LOL!!
The RMS Titanic encountered ice in mid-April of 1912. Is 2014 an analogous year?

Michigan was cold in that winter also. 13th coldest as of the 2004-05 season.

No problem. PIOMAS doesn’t evaluate ice that far south, so it doesn’t matter.
But there is very little ice in the ocean depths, where the missing heat resides. The science is settled: global warming is real.
Settled my butt. Climate Change is very much still bs. Keep propagating, though. It’s all you have left.
Your sarcasm detector appears to be malfunctioning.
😀
That sea ice formation east of Newfoundland!

Global Warning/Climate Change/Global Freezing/Insert manipulative phrase here keeps changing. At least we don’t have to feel bad for the polar bears anymore. Unless they need winter jackets now. Peace.
I bet the polar bears wouldn’t mind a bit of warming.
We can send Al Gore up to warm them up. IMAGE
(Pun intended)
