Lake Superior – 31,700 square miles
Lake Michigan – 22,300 square miles
Lake Huron – 23,000 square miles
Lake Erie – 9,910 square miles
Lake Ontario – 7,340 square miles
The total then equals 94,250 square miles
If only Lake Ontario is almost ice-free, isn’t the equation 94,250-7,340/94,250? That produces a percentage of 92.2%

My Daffy’s about 100m north of the Gulf of Mexico were a month late as well. My Easter Lilies have just broken the surface in the past week. Last year they were a few weeks late. I have no idea how late they’ll be this year. We’re just now being inundated with tree pollen. Also about a month late.

There is much surface area of the other lakes that have very little ice. Note the gray-scale with bands of 10-40% and 40-70%.
You need to look at raw pixel counts, not the map as shown here.
When it is daylight, you can look at the space just north of Cleveland, across 3.5 miles.
Two days ago there was no ice, today winds had changed and it was 99% covered.

According to Stroeve et al, since the Great Lakes have always had less than 1,000,000 km² of ice cover, they’ve always been ice-free. Since they’ve always been ice-free, any ice cover is unprecedented. Unprecedented ice-cover is obviously caused by runaway climate change (the New Null Hypothesis). We’re all doomed.
