Experts also determined that a warm week in Sochi in February was indicative of a climate heating out of control.

Here I thought it was because Sochi is in the southern part of Russia and the warmest city ever to hoast the winter olympics. I guess I’m dumber that I thought!

  2. Mom2Girls says:

What are the odds that Sochi was put forward by the Russians as an Olympic site to allow for forward troop movement to that region under the guise of providing security?

    • Gail Combs says:

      Now that sounds likely.

The Russians really want that Ukraine farmland back among other southern territories. The are more worried about a Little Ice Age then they are about CAGW.

      • mkelly says:

The biggest problem for Russia is demographics. There will be no Russians in a generation or so from now.

        Birth rate
        13.3 births/1,000 population (2013)[3]

        Death rate
        13.1 deaths/1,000 population (2013)

    • Jason Calley says:

I know that the MSM is reporting that “the Russians invaded Ukraine” but the Russian troops were already there, and have been for years. After the old USSR fell apart Ukraine agreed to let the Russians keep their naval base there in Crimea and up to 25,000 troops as well. Having 18,000 troops already stationed there is well within the agreement. Another thing to remember is that Crimea was part of Russia until 1954 when Stalin split it off and annexed it to Ukraine. Crimea is still culturally Russian.

My point? The MSM can be trusted about Ukraine exactly as much as it can be trusted about CAGW — or anything else. Additionally, Putin is a horse’s behind. As is Obama. As was Bush. As are pretty much all our Senators and Congressional Representatives. There may be exceptions, but they are too few to matter much. The world political situation is the result of sociopaths running the world, and the only reason why the MSM want to turn Putin into the boogeyman de jour is to get Americans hating someone far away in Russia instead of examining our real enemies in Washington DC.

      • Gail Combs says:

Actually Putin looks brilliant compared to Obama. At least he had the cojones to slap Greenpeace Arses in a nice COLD jail and the smarts to let them go as a Christmas gesture of good will.

        • Jason Calley says:

“Actually Putin looks brilliant compared to Obama.”

LOL! Yeah, Gail… and colon cancer looks good compared to ebola!

Comparing Putin to Obama, hmmmm… Strictly opinion here, and I am no psychological genius, but the difference seems to be this: Putin wants to be the leader of a powerful nation and will do what he can to make Russia more and more powerful. Obama, on the other hand, just seems to want power, power strictly for himself, and has no concern at all with whether the United States is helped or harmed in the process. Think, Caesar Augustus versus Caligula.

          Interesting times, huh?

      • Jason Calley,
Great explanation. I suspect that you will enjoy this:

  3. Mom2Girls says:

No question you are right about the farmland. If we are entering a Dalton, or worse Maunder, minimum lots of Russian farmland becomes marginal at best. There’s really no place for them to go but south.

Have you read ‘Fallen Angels’ by Niven? Oldie but goodie.

    • Jason Calley says:

Pardon me drifting off topic here, but if you like scifi take a look at “The Martian” by Andy Weir. Newly out and a darned good read.

  4. Mohatdebos says:

for those of stuck in the winter wonderland in Michigan, those who want to “save winters” can have it shoved down their orifice of choice! I want spring. By the way, it will be interesting to see how all the experts who claimed the Great Lakes were shrinking because of global warming, explain the recovery in lake levels this year.

  5. Gail Combs says:

Actually I was looking at this: http://news.nationalpost.com/2014/02/24/arrest-warrant-issued-for-ukrainian-president-viktor-yanukoych-on-charge-of-mass-murder/

China is also after farm land in the Ukraine and over a decade ago the Japanese were going door to door in Oklahoma trying to buy ranch land. Heck a week ago I had someone trying to buy my best farmland for a pittance.

  6. Mom2Girls says:

China and Russia are both looking for farmland in Central America and China especially is interested in Africa. In 100 years the majority of the population in Africa might not be African, but Chinese.

  7. NikFromNYC says:

We virile indivualists, under the umbrella of contemporarily robust popular culture in which both Rembrant and Mozart are successfully subsumed and sublimated into mature Rock & Roll, do not have strength either in organized public protest nor pseudo-altruistic (sponsored) bullshit.

We are the heavy golden base of the world.

That Jesus is God is true, even just as an idea.

More simply so compared to Greek gods.

    Free Will is rare.

    Does it cost money?

    I think it does.

Money is required in the medium term to effectively separate oneself from scammy manipulative riff raff.

But it should be simply free.

    Money should do that.

    Ted FUCKING Cruz?

    He gets it.

    It happened already in England.

    “Abolish the IRS.”

    Dudes, that’s positively PSYCHEDELIC.

  8. Anto says:

Don’t they know that the only way to get it to snow on the palm trees is to hold a climate conference there?

The Crimean peninsula is a very warm place. I was there a few years ago during the summer.
It was ~ 40C . Typical Jan daytime high is 5C.

Meanwhile the White House wants the G20 to be all about CAGW. It’s obviously way too hot in the USA. “US President Barack Obama’s G20 sherpa, Caroline Atkinson”.

…. Think, Caesar Augustus versus Caligula.

Actually I was thinking Nero and his playing the cithara (harp-like stringed instrument) while Rome burned. Or golf in this case. {:>)

  12. Gail Combs says:

Speaking of burning the economy this is the latest.
I added a scathing comment which may or may not be posted.

6 Mar: Reuters: Ernest Scheyder: EPA chief says new U.S. energy rules won’t hobble business
Carbon regulations can be crafted to help offset climate change without “shutting down business in its tracks,” U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy said at a major energy conference on Thursday…
“We don’t have to choose between a healthy environment and a healthy economy,” McCarthy, who has run the EPA for nearly a year, said about new rules she said would be proposed by this summer.
