They don’t need no stinking evidence because when something like this happens then Man has to be responsible in some way.
Possibly it is a mutation in the bacteria. We already have antibiotic resistant sepsis and a deadly strain of e-coli develop.
Also a swift change in diet such as happens with a burst of warm moist spring like weather can easily produce enough of a diet change to kill horses, sheep, goats, and cattle (BTDT) For livestock there are shots to protect against the problem. It is called overeating disease also known as “Enterotoxemia” or “pulpy kidney” disease.

I really wish everything wasn’t automatically blamed on ‘Climate Change’ It completely kills an investigation into the real cause.
Knee-jerk reactions are disappointing.
A species with a near-extinction record may well suffer from a lack of genetic diversity, and thus perhaps an extreme susceptibility to some pest, bacteria, or even something as mundane as an allergic reaction to a mold.
Too bad everything is blamed on “climate change” without a second (or any) thought.

We had two wet springs a couple of years ago in north east wyoming .blue tungue wiped out more than half of the white tail deer population . There numbers are back up to normal again. The only constant we have is that the weather is constantly changing .
Blue tongue is ugly it kills white tail in hours and it does require a warm fall, the interesting part is Mule deer are immune to it.
