Flat-Earthers At The Sydney Morning Herald

The Sydney Morning Herald announced this week that the Arctic will be ice free in two years, and made the executive decision to frighten their children and ruin Christmas for them.

North Pole melting rate: In two years, the Arctic could be completely gone

Climate alarmists are quite literally flat earthers. They look at two dimensional maps like the one below, and their sub-standard brains tell them that the ice will soon disappear.

The actual earth is round. By September the sun is too low in the sky near the pole to melt the ice. It is easy to melt ice near Alaska, but much harder to melt it near the North Pole. The North Pole simply doesn’t get enough solar radiation during the summer to melt high-albedo ice which is cloud covered much of the time.

The North Pole has been having very cold summers recently, and the Arctic minimum has been trending higher for a decade. There is no indication that the Arctic is going to be ice-free anytime soon.

There are only 90 days a year when the North Pole can melt, and temperatures there have been running consistently below normal in recent summers.

There could be just two years left before the North Pole disappears

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
    That’s funny.

  2. gator69 says:

We need to get Hillary to take on on this fake news!

  3. Gail Combs says:

And they call internet blogs FAKE news?!?

  4. TA says:

Thanks for this ammunition, Tony. There have been several recent claims of climate change being the cause of glaciers melting. Your article will be a good example of hysteria about glaciers over the decades.

    • Gail Combs says:

Here are a couple of papers to toss at the Glaciers are MELTING snowflakes.

A study on glacial activity in Norway for the past ~8,000 years showing Norway is experiencing the greatest glacial activity in the past 1,000 year. That is most glaciers in Norway likely didn’t exist 6,000 years ago, and the highest period of glacial GROWTH has been in the past 600 years. — Quaternary Research link

Ice cores from the Freemont Glacier show it went from Little Ice Age cold to Modern Warming warm in the ten years around 1850 — Naturally as the Sun went into a more normal stage/ Grand Solar Maximum after the Little Ice Age. SEE A History of Solar Activity over Millennia

      ABSTRACT
An ice core removed from the Upper Fremont Glacier in Wyoming provides evidence for abrupt climate change during the mid-1800s….

At a depth of 152 m the refined age-depth profile shows good agreement (1736±10 A.D.) with the 14C age date (1729±95 A.D.). The δ18O profile of the Upper Fremont Glacier (UFG) ice core indicates a change in climate known as the Little Ice Age (LIA)….

At this depth, the age-depth profile predicts an age of 1845 A.D. Results indicate the termination of the LIA was abrupt with a major climatic shift to warmer temperatures around 1845 A.D. and continuing to present day. Prediction limits (error bars) calculated for the profile ages are ±10 years (90% confidence level). Thus a conservative estimate for the time taken to complete the LIA climatic shift to present-day climate is about 10 years, suggesting the LIA termination in alpine regions of central North America may have occurred on a relatively short (decadal) timescale.

      • griff says:

sure… but the glaciers which arrived only in that recent timespan are now melting away again, due to recent and continuing changes…

“The glaciers are further back than they have been for an awfully long time. You’d have to go back to the Viking times, or 2,000 years back to find a climate as warm or glaciers as small.”

        • Neal S says:

Griff quotes “You’d have to go back to the Viking times, or 2,000 years back to find a climate as warm or glaciers as small.”

And yet there were no SUV’s back then. Sure makes it seem like you can’t really blame human produced CO2 for those past times when it was obviously warmer than now.

It makes no sense at all to blame CO2 for all real or imagined warming, when it is clear from many historical records that there is nothing actually new or unprecedented by anything that we are seeing now.

  6. Sheri says:

As to the Santa “thing”: Do people really believe a guy they created who lives at the North Pole, makes enough toys for all the good boys and girls and delivers them in a blink of an eye can’t relocate to the South Pole if necessary? Just tell the kids Santa needed a change of scenery.

  7. griff says:

The sun shining on it is not the sole reason the arctic ice melts…

It has already melted back during the freeze season once during November and looks like it is doing it again in the Chuckchi Sea right now…

Anyone who reads the Sydney Morning Hamas sure has a lot of spare time on their hands.
There is more information and news in Golden Books than there is in that scrappy/trashy left wing newspaper.

  9. Gary Seymour says:

What? Summer temps were below normal? Did you even see the fall temps? Talk about blinders.

Do you even want to talk about sea ice level? Sea ice level is the lowest that it has ever been. And you want to say that summer temps were low? Are you even sane?

  10. Beale says:

How can the North Pole disappear? It makes no sense.
