According to government experts, all 1200 of the Maldives Islands will be gone by the end of this year, and they ran out water 25 years ago.

In this shocking imagery taken earlier today, you can see dehydrated native islanders fleeing the seas.

Oh, the humanity!
As Maxwell Smart would say– missed by that much!
As Nils Morner has shown with raised beach features, relative sea level in the Maldives has actually gone down since 1979.
Right you are, Dr Easterbrook
And there is widespread geological evidence of wave-cut benches 1-2 m above current sea level that record sea-level highstands during the Holocene Optimum 8-6 thousand years ago
Fer-cryin-out-loud folks, when you can stand on the modern beach and see plain-as-day evidence of higher sea levels in the recent past, it’s a little hard to get alarmed about 1-2 mm/yr sea-level rise trends.
Chill out, have a beer, and enjoy the sea breeze
Saw horn coral fossils at 10,000 ft in the Tetons last week. Think the average layman would understand what they are and why they’re there? I don’t.
BTW the several specimens I saw there would pale in comparison of quality and size to those I pulled out of a bank of loose punky limestone at Versailles State park in Indiana.
The Biblical account of a world wide flood accounts for both the coral fossils at 10,000 ft and the fossils at Versailles State Park in Indiana – fer-cryin-out-loud, what’s it gonna take to see the evidence and believe?
Otto are you joking about a world wide flood ? There is no evidence for it and much against. There have been localized flood events e.g the bursting a glacial dams -e.g Lake Agassiz where Manitoba now is .You seem to be quoting from a myth that probably started with the Sumerian ‘Epic of Gilgamesh’ (2100 BCE ) which got incorporated into Jewish stories as a result of the Judahites time in Babylon 597 BCESee Talk-Origins website for more details orarticle, “The impossible voyage of Noah’s Ark” by Robert A. Yes indeed and this paper of his agrees with my own obs at our place on the east coast of Australia with 8 inches fall and then stability after 1953.
ABSTRACTMörner, N.-A., 2017. Coastal morphology and sea-level changes in Goa, India during the last 500 years.
Coastal morphology, stratigraphy, radiocarbon dating, archaeological remains, historical documentation, and tide gauge records allowed us to establish a very firm and detailed record of the changes in sea level in Goa over the last 500 years. It is an oscillation record: a low level in the early 16th century, a +50-cm high level in the 17th century, a level below present sea level in the 18th century, a +20-cm high level in the 19th and early 20th centuries, a ∼20-cm fall in 1955–1962, and a virtually stable level over the last 50 years. This sea level record is almost identical to those obtained in the Maldives and in Bangladesh. The Indian Ocean seems to lack records of any alarming sea-level rise in recent decades; on the contrary, 10 sites analyzed indicate a sea level remaining at about ±0.0, at least over the last 50 years or so.
Well, at least the prediction was falsifiable…
They’re new to the Nostradamus game.
Meanwhile they face a real threat from radical islam. But the people who promote global warming are ardent islamist deniers.https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/06/18/world/asia/maldives-islamic-radicalism.html
That is so true. Why it goes hand-in-hand, I don’t know…
The Maldives are one of the many illegitimate alarmist poster children that were abandoned years ago.
But, of course, today’s climate scientists and their computer models are SO much better now than they were back in the prehistoric 1980’s. We just have to keep moving the goal posts back and keep reciting the same scary headlines.
Eventually, a huge meteor will land in the Pacific and put the Muldives under water. The alarmists will still claim that your SUV caused it.
They already said that. ETs are watching us and if we don’t do what the Progressives want they will destroy us. What a better way than sending a huge meteor our way?
Aliens may destroy humanity to protect other civilisations, say scientists…Watching from afar, extraterrestrial beings might view changes in Earth’s atmosphere as symptomatic of a civilisation growing out of control – and take drastic action to keep us from becoming a more serious threat, the researchers explain.…https://www.theguardian.com/science/2011/aug/18/aliens-destroy-humanity-protect-civilisations
Aliens? You gotta be joking. I think the idea that we need extraterrestials to come in and bring us salvation and save us from ourselves, tells more about what we think of ourselves than anything else. But looking at the nature and animals of Earth I think it’s more likely that aliens would either just want to kill us and take our stuff, or if they are similar to our progressives, they would probably look us with admiration while hating themselves. The grass is always greener on the other side after all.
Did some one say aliens?
Sounds like a job for Larry Martin:

So thats where the missing heat went …
Ya and as soon as we get warp drive we will send in tbe marines. Just like in ‘Alien’ … nuke em from space … thats gotta be the plan… right!
We will need to find out where their planet is … should be a snap.
Don’t worry, scientists have learned from this dreadful miscalculation, they now only make predictions past 2050 if close to retirement age, or 2100 otherwise.
The Maldives are only being kept above sea-level by the enormous amounts of concrete being poured into their runways and hard standings. Save an Island – send more money.
Hank Johnson thinks that will make them tip over and, ah, um, cap-size.
One should think that zillion tons of concrete should make the island drown by the enourmous weight. But neither this enourmous additional weight, nor the increased sea level rise can make this island drown-which means that even the sea level rise does not exist.
Considering how flat the maledive beaches are ,even a very moderate sea level rise in the past 30 years should have made the beaches dissappear/drown many years ago.
I went there in 2000 and I drank water as their wine is crap and always served cold urhhhh.
There’s a reference at the end of each paragraph….Embarrassing Predictions Plague the Global-Warming Industry
It is now pretty clearly agreed that the CO2 content [in the atmosphere] will rise 25% by 2000. This could increase the average temperature near the earth’s surface by 7 degrees Fahrenheit. This in turn could raise the level of the sea by 10 feet. Goodbye New York. Goodbye Washington, for that matter.- – Presidential advisor Daniel Moynihan 1969
Move Where (to escape the cold)? The Brutal Buffalo (NY) winter might be common all over the United States. Climate experts believe the next Ice Age is on its way. According to recent evidence, it could come sooner than anyone expected. – In Search of – “The Coming Ice Age” 1978
In New York City by 2008 The West Side Highway [which runs along the Hudson River] will be under water. And there will be tape across the windows across the street because of high winds. And the same birds won’t be there. The trees in the median strip will change. There will be more police cars. Why? Well, you know what happens to crime when the heat goes up… Under the greenhouse effect, extreme weather increases. Depending on where you are in terms of the hydrological cycle, you get more of whatever you’re prone to get. New York can get droughts, the droughts can get more severe and you’ll have signs in restaurants saying “Water by request only.” – James Hansen Grist Magazine June 1988
‘New York will probably be like Florida 15 years from now,’ – St. Louis Post-Dispatch Sept. 17, 1989
n 1971, another global-cooling alarmist, Stanford University professor Paul Ehrlich said“By the year 2000 the United Kingdom will be simply a small group of impoverished islands, inhabited by some 70 million hungry people,”
The 2005 UNEP predictions claimed that, by 2010 some 50 million “climate refugees in ”the Caribbean and low-lying Pacific islands, would be frantically fleeing from those regions of the globe. However, not only did the areas in question fail to produce a single “climate refugee,” by 2010, population levels for those regions were actually still soaring.
On June 30, 1989, the Associated Press ran an article headlined: “UN Official Predicts Disaster, Says Greenhouse Effect Could Wipe Some Nations Off Map.” In the piece, the director of the UNEP’s New York office was quoted as claiming that “entire nations could be wiped off the face of the earth by rising sea levels if global warming is not reversed by the year 2000.
In its final 2007 report, widely considered the “gospel” of “settled” climate “science,” the UN IPCC suggested that Himalayan glaciers could melt by 2035 or sooner. It turns out the wild assertion was lifted from World Wildlife Fund propaganda literature. The IPCC recanted the claim after initially defending it.March 2000, for example, “senior research scientist” David Viner, working at the time for the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia, told the U.K. Independent that within “a few years,” snowfall would become “a very rare and exciting event” in Britain. “Children just aren’t going to know what snow is,” he was quoted as claiming in the article, headlined “Snowfalls are now just a thing of the past.” The very next year, snowfall across the United Kingdom increased by more than 50 percent. By December of 2009, London saw its heaviest levels of snowfall in two decades. In 2010, the coldest U.K. winter since records began a century ago blanketed the islands with snow.In early 2004, the CRU’s Viner and other self-styled “experts” warned that skiing in Scotland would soon become just a memory, thanks to alleged global warming. Yet in 2013, too much snow kept many Scottish resorts closed. By 2014, the BBC, citing experts, reported that the Scottish hills had more snow than at any point in seven decades.
White House Science “Czar” John Holdren. “A growing body of evidence suggests that the kind of extreme cold being experienced by much of the United States as we speak is a pattern we can expect to see with increasing frequency, as global warming continues,” he claimed. Holdren warned decades ago that human CO2 emissions would lead to a billion deaths due to global warming-fueled global cooling — yes, cooling, which he said would lead to a new ice age by 2020.
James Hansen, for instance, who headed NASA’s Goddard Institute for three decades Said “The West Side Highway [which runs along the Hudson River] will be under water (by 2008).
Princeton professor and lead UN IPCC author Michael Oppenheimer, made some dramatic predictions in 1990 while working as “chief scientist” for the Environmental Defense Fund. By 1995, he said then, the “greenhouse effect” would be “desolating the heartlands of North America and Eurasia with horrific drought, causing crop failures and food riots.”
In 2007, 2008, and 2009, Al Gore, the high priest for a movement described by critics as the “climate cult,” publicly warned that the North Pole would be “ice-free” in the summer by around 2013 because of alleged “man-made global warming.” Gore said during some of the summer months, Arctic ice could be completely ice-free within the next five to seven years,” Gore claimed in 2009. “We will find out.” Yes, we have found out. Contrary to the predictions by Gore and fellow alarmists, satellite data showed that Arctic ice volume as of summer of 2013 had actually expanded more than 50 percent over 2012 levels. In fact, during October 2013, sea-ice levels grew at the fastest pace since records began in 1979.
Even more embarrassing for the warmists have been trends in the Southern Hemisphere. Of course, all of the “climate models” and “climate experts” and “scientists” predicted that rising CO2 emissions would increase global temperatures, which would melt the ice in Antarctica — by far the largest mass of frozen H2O on the planet. Indeed, the forecasts were crucial to many of the other predictions about surging sea levels and related gloom and doom. The problem for global-warming theorists is that the opposite happened. Indeed, sea ice in Antarctica is off the charts, consistently smashing previous record highs on a near-daily basis. Sea-ice area in the south is now at the highest point since records began.
Obama also made some climate claims, saying: “Some may still deny the overwhelming judgment of science, but none can avoid the devastating impact of raging fires and crippling drought and powerful storms.” Ironically, all three of the examples he provided of what he called the “threat of climate change” actually discredit his argument. As Forbes magazine pointed out last year, the number of wildfires has plummeted 15 percent since 1950, and according the National Academy of Sciences, that trend is likely to continue for decades. On “droughts,” a 2012 study published in the alarmist journal Nature noted that there has been “little change in global drought over the past 60 years.” Contrary to predictions by Obama and global warmists, hurricanes and tornadoes have been hitting in record-setting low numbers. “When the 2014 hurricane season starts it will have been 3,142 days since the last Category 3+ storm made landfall in the U.S., shattering the record for the longest stretch between U.S. intense hurricanes since 1900, it appears that 2013 also featured the lowest number of tornadoes in the long-term record. The Earth’s climate has always changed, and very likely will continue to change,
There is a geological formation in the Maldives called a wave cut platform. It is the result of erosion of a rock face over a long period of time by the effects of waves in a region of stable sea level. The result is a flat surface of rock which is awash by waves.
On this wave cut platform grew a tree. It was not a mangrove, or salt water tree, but a regular tree requiring fresh water to live. Occasionally the tide would be out when it rained, and the tree got enough fresh rain water to stay alive.
But if the sea level rose at all, the roots of the tree would be covered and it would die.
So the fact that the tree had survived for a long time was proof positive that sea level was not rising.
So what happened? A group of climate change and environmental activists from Australia flew to the Maldives, found the tree, and cut it down.
No more proof positive that the propaganda of rapidly rising sea level was just that – scare mongering propaganda.
“So what happened? A group of climate change and environmental activists from Australia flew to the Maldives, found the tree, and cut it down.”
(That’ll be entertaining to share with some eco-loon friends, but I need to source it to use it.)

Let the debate continue!
I mean look what SUVs and hair spray did to Mars? Time to panic folks!!!
Surely if the Maldives are in such danger from climate change, the Clinton Global Initiative can spare a few million bucks to help those poor islanders relocate. I mean, look at the great job they’ve done rebuilding Haiti!
I think George sums it up best. Not sure when it was done, but it is still relevant today. Every environmentalist should be shown this clip to give them a dose of reality.Enjoy
Also, Michael Crichton’s take on environmentalism as a religion would be worthwhile for those inclined.http://www.hawaiifreepress.com/ArticlesMain/tabid/56/ID/2818/Crichton-Environmentalism-is-a-religion.aspx
Interesting to read Wikipedia article about Thilafushi which originally was a lagoon called “Thilafalhu” with a length of 7 km and a width of 200 metres at the shallowest regions. It came into existence following a series of discussions and efforts to resolve Malé’s garbage predicament during the early 1990s. The decision to reclaim Thilafalhu as a landfill was made on December 5, 1991
During its early years of waste disposal operations, pits (also known as cells) with a volume of 37,500 ft3 (1060 m3) were dug, after which the sand obtained from the excavation was used to construct walled enclosures around the internal perimeter of the cells. Waste received from Malé was deposited into the midst of the pit, which was topped off with a layer of construction debris and then uniformly levelled with white sand. Initially there was no segregation of the waste since it had to be disposed immediately due to mass accumulation.
Today Thilafushi has a landmass of more than 4.6 million ft2 (0.43 km²). The speedy terrestrial growth of Thilafushi was observed by the Government, and in November 1997, it was decided that land was to be leased to entrepreneurs interested in acquiring land for industrial purposes. Initially there were just 22 lease holders. Within the past 10 years, this number has doubled to 54 resulting in more than 1.2 million square feet (0.11 km² or 27.5 acres) of land being used
