“Science Tells Them” – To Ignore Data

The Union of Concerned Communist Scientists has finally discovered the Dust Bowl.

Heat Waves and Climate Change: What the Science Tells Us about Extreme Heat Events (2018) | Union of Concerned Scientists

They lament that the extreme heat of the 1930’s doesn’t agree with their predetermined junk science, and are upset they can’t blame humans for it.

the extremes of the Dust Bowl era of the 1930s—which were not caused by global warming—throw off the temperature records to the point where it can be difficult for researchers to pin extreme heat over the course of the 20th century to human activity

They want to throw out the US data, and focus on the rest of the world. But NOAA’s Global Historical Climatology Network (GHCN) has little daily temperature data outside of the US prior to 1950, making studies of heatwaves outside the US largely meaningless.

And the US temperature data shows that the frequency of hot days has been falling for 110 years.

There isn’t one shred of evidence to back up the UCSUSA claims about heat, in fact the data shows the exact opposite of what they are claiming. But leftists never let facts or data interfere with their preconceived notions.

A simple look at EPA heat wave index shows Union of Concerned Scientists are misleading people to believe 1930s were an anomaly. The 1920s and 1950s were also worse than the 2010s.

This group is not what it appears to be in its name, or in its work:

    Union of Concerned Scientists

It is, of course, possible to corrupt science without specifically corrupting institutions.
For example, the environmental movement often cloaks its propaganda in scientific garb without the aid of any existing scientific body. One technique is simply to give a name to an environmental advocacy group that will suggest to the public that the group is a scientific rather than an environmental group. Two obvious examples are the Union of Concerned Scientists and the Woods Hole Research Center The former conducted an intensive advertising campaign about ten years ago in which they urged people to look to them for authoritative information on global warming. This campaign did not get very far – if only because the Union of Concerned Scientists had little or no scientific expertise in climate.

Of course it isn’t. Anthony Watts dog is a member in good standing.

    • Disillusioned says:

Ah, yes. I remember. A valid credit card was all that was necessary for Kenji to become a member of the Union of Charlatan Scientism.

Since when are fingerprints mentioned that are non-human ? Ever heard of a gorilla thumbnail ? All kidding put aside , only the language used by the alarmists is showing their false pretexts and narrative . It is full of double-speak , arrogance and the missing exactness is daily shown by you . Tony you are a hero !

  5. Gerald Machnee says:

Yes the human imprint – cold hands resulting in cooling temperatures.

  6. GCsquared says:

“..the extremes of the Dust Bowl era of the 1930’s – which were not caused by Global Warming..”

WTF? So, global warming is not caused by Global Warming? As Tony has been pointing out, all this is getting more and more Orwellian.

Anecdote: in the East Bay area of northern California, for a few years we had some warm sequences of summer weather where the temperature stayed in the 80’s at night for weeks at a time. Since it was very unusual, we bought a room air conditioner to cool the bedroom for those occasions. Haven’t needed it since 2000. The new heat must be cooler than the old heat.

I’ve been trying to find a scary CO2 molecule costume that I could wear for Halloween, but I hear they’ve been banned by the EPA.

    • Mr GrimNasty says:

In the UK we gardeners (and professional/municipal developers/landscapers) were persuaded to plant drought resistant plants that drowned, and ‘tropical’ plants that died from the cold. And DEFRA thinks 16cm = 100cm when it comes to sea level rise by 2080.

Ignore the facts, ignore common sense, just believe the eco-crazies.

  7. TA says:

All the statistics say extreme weather is decreasing not increasing, yet the Union of Concerned Scientists claims just the opposite.

How hard is it to look at an EPA Heatwave chart? It clearly shows the downtrend in heatwaves. Maybe the Union of Concerned Scientists is unaware we have an EPA.

  8. Chewer says:

We need massive funding and ardent research to find the cause and cute affecting many warmists. This disease has been given the appropriate name of DRB Syndrome (dirty Totten bastard). DRB appears to be contagious and is spreading rather quickly!

  9. Rosco says:

The world record heatwave occurred in Marble Bar Australia almost 100 years ago – 160 days from October 31 1923 to April 7, 1924 the temperature broke the 37.8 °C (100.0 °F) benchmark, setting the heat wave record at 160 days.

The maximum temperature recorded was a modest 47.5°C or 117.5° F but the hottest Marble Bar has recorded was 49.2°C or or 120.56° F but still over 1°C less than Australia’s highest ever recorded temperature of 50.7°C or 123.26°F in Oodnadatta in 1960.

Look at a map of Australia and observe that there are millions of square kilometres of virtually unpopulated tropical desert area where there are no weather stations and see that Marble Bar’s record could easily be understating the reality of extreme heat.

So Australia’s record occurred 58 years ago or 94 years ago depending on your point of view.

Interestingly Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology has removed the website they previously maintained on the Marble Bar heatwave record – I wonder why ?

You can’t even find any link to Marble bar and BOM these days – luckily people saved the page as further proof the alarmists are liars.

  10. David of Aussie says:

Rosco, it is interesting how you mention the erasure of temperature records from the Australian BOM site. Here’s another one for you. I was doing some examination of temperature records at various Australian country towns. One in particular struck my eye because the data went back to 1871. This was from a station called “Darling Street” very close to the center of Dubbo in NSW. One second the data was there and the next it was erased. Lucky i did manage to download the maximum temperature record data before the BOM Deep State operatives erased it.

Unfortunately the Darling Street station closed in 1999 and for a continuation of the trend the closest station to it became the air port about 5 km further away. The graph below continues the Darling Street trend using airport data. From the graph it is plain to see that the hottest year remains around 1900 and there has been no out of control increase in temperature in recent years beyond normal cyclical change.

What are the consequences if all these predictions are wrong and we continue to do as the current power brokers wish us to do?…. NONE!

What if these predictions are right? PLENTY!

    • tonyheller says:

Running short of low cost reliable power would be catastrophic

What are the consequences if all these predictions are wrong and we continue to do as the current power brokers wish us to do?,/i>

Seven million humans will needlessly starve to death again this year. But it’s mostly poor brown people. So, do you care Ralphie?
