When Data Tampering Just Isn’t Enough ….

Satellite measurements of troposphere temperatures show little or no warming over the past 20 years.

RSS_Monthly_MSU_AMSU_Channel_TLT_Anomalies_Land_and_Ocean_v03_3.txt

This is particularly bad news for people who depend on climate grants to feed their families, because satellite temperatures start at the coldest year on record in the Arctic.  Climate scientists need to show a lot of warming to keep the $$$ coming in.

Data.GISS: GISS Surface Temperature Analysis

This lack of warming was unacceptable to professional climate scamsters, so I predicted more than three years ago the satellite data would be massively tampered with to make the hiatus disappear.

Look for the satellite data to be adjusted to bring it into compliance with the fully fraudulent surface temperatures. The Guardian is now working to discredit UAH, so it seems likely that RSS will soon be making big changes – to match the needs of the climate mafia. Bookmark this post.

That is exactly what happened. Two years ago, Carl Mears at Remote Sensing Systems understood the climate model forecasts (yellow below) weren’t working.

Note that after 1998, the observations are likely to be below the simulated values, indicating that the simulation as a whole are predicting too much warming.

Climate Analysis | Remote Sensing Systems

But under pressure from the climate mafia,  Mears altered his own data to make the models look slightly better. The large discrepancy became a small discrepancy.

there is a small discrepancy between the model predictions and the satelllite observations

Remote Sensing Systems

The image below overlays Mears’ old graph on his new one. It is clear what he did – he  eliminated the blue error interval, and started using the high side of the interval as his temperature.

This is pretty awful junk science, but even with cheating the temperature has still fallen outside the range of the climate models. Nature simply isn’t cooperating with their global warming scam, so the climate science community is compensating by ramping up their hysteria, lies and fraud.

Disclaimer : Mosher says the last 14 million news articles about climate misquoted scientists, and the scientists are simply innocent victims.

  1. Bruce of Newcastle says:

Snow cover extent is a real measure of temperature: it is the area of the Earth at or below 0 C. Snow cover has been trending flat since mid 1994, yet all the temperature trends have been rising.

Maybe government climate scientists have found a way to adjust the melting point of water. /sarc

    • arn says:

More the melting point of snow :)

But what they really did was, they made a choice just like Mears did.

The Mob visited him and said:”Luigi,we have message for you from Don Corleone.
Either you walk with us down the street or alone with concrete boots down the river.
It is your choice wether you take all the money and become us
or we will destroy your carreer and reputation and you’ll be jobless”

  2. Anon says:

Mears said he was “motivated by fixing these differences between the satellites. If the differences hadn’t been there, I wouldn’t have done the upgrade.”

Actually Mears was motivated to fix this:

And here are the details about how Mears justified it:

Why would orbital decay of satellites cause the temp to be depressed? Just wondering what mechanism

Effects of orbital decay on satellite-derived lower-tropospheric temperature trends

Here we identify an artificial cooling trend in the satellite-derived temperature series caused by previously neglected orbital-decay effects. We find a new, corrected estimate of +0.07 K per decade for the MSU-based temperature trend, which is in closer agreement with surface temperatures. We also find that the reported7 cooling of the lower troposphere, relative to the middle troposphere, is another artefact caused by uncorrected orbital-decay effects.

The Satellites work perfectly as long as you keep periodically correcting them to agree with Surface Temperatures.

The New RSS TLT Data is Unbelievable! (Or Would That Be Better Said, Not Believable?) A quick Introduction

So, as per the article above, the Surface Temperatures all adjusted upward, which then triggers the need to adjust the satellite temperatures upward…

THIS IS NOT SCIENCE. It would be a lot less expensive and time consuming to just let them make up the data as they go along.

        • Anon says:

So, if you left the Surface Temperature dataset alone, there would be no need to correct the Satellite dataset… which would then leave us with only “one” Climate Model that actually works, the Russian model INM-CM4.

And the Russian, (and no doubt the Chinese and Indian position as well, when they are not giving lip service to the US, EU & IPCC) position is as follows:

Putin was always opposed to Kyoto and the so-called science behind it. He sent his economic advisor Andrey Illarionov on a world tour explaining what was wrong with the science. A copy of his Washington 2004 PowerPoint presentation is available here.

Russian scientists know what the IPCC said. Because of them Putin knows that the climate science of the IPCC is wrong. He knows it because Soviet and now Russian climatologists practice open science, which is ironic in a political system that is supposed to be controlling.

          https://wattsupwiththat.com/2015/10/30/vladimir-putin-climate-and-political-realist/

All that I outlined above ought to make any real scientist want to PUKE but Climate Science is not real science.

          • Anon says:

Which is why they are so desperate to see the Arctic free of ice or see the Maldives submerged, anything to validate the upward temperature adjustments they have fabricated.

          • Johansen says:

            wow, thanks Anon (again)

    • Louis Joseph Hooffstetter says:

Wow! – Talk about deniers! Empirical data means nothing to these clowns.

Even when confronted with satellite data that clearly shows ‘The Pause’, they deny it!

  3. RAH says:

I think Tony mentioned early last year that he believed Radiosonde data would also be adjusted to try and support the scam better. Have you seen evidence of that yet Tony?

When looking at the failure of the actual data to support the models one should be aware that this has happened despite the fact that El Ninos have the effect of driving temps up well beyond the period that SSTs are elevated by pumping more water vapor into the atmosphere. This increase in water vapor raises polar temperatures (and snow fall) significantly while raising nighttime lows in the temperate and tropical zones.

I believe the reason why we have not seen more warming due to that increase in water vapor is because the AMO is turning to it’s cold phase.

    • Disillusioned says:

RAH, I have seen you post that before (that the AMO Index is turning to its cold phase). I am curious why you think that.

The last warm phase of the AMO index was from 1925 to 1965. The warm phase this time began around 1995, about a year after Schlesinger and Ramankutty identified the cycle going back to the 1850s. http://www.scirp.org/(S(351jmbntvnsjt1aadkposzje))/reference/ReferencesPapers.aspx?ReferenceID=842918

The AMO dipped this Summer, as it had done other times during this warm phase. It briefly dipped several times into negative territory during the last two very long, very warm phases.

It would seem to have – at least – another decade or more on the clock, this time ’round the block. If it’s a cycle. I don’t understand why or how this warm phase would/could be shorter that the last two. Dunno.

      • RAH says:

There is no regular cycle length for the AMO. The periods for warm (positive phases) and cold (negative phases) have varied considerably just over the last 110 years.

The AMO is currently at a plateau in the positive phase. Changes from positive to negative or visa versa can occur quite suddenly after a plateau.

The PDO has turned down from it’s warm phase and now lies in neutral territory.

As Tony has noted again and again, the best record for terrestrial temperatures over a reasonably large area of the earth is that of the US and the temperatures have been dropping which does correspond well with the emergence of a negative AMO.

Though there is not correlation that has been shown between solar activity and ocean cycles there still has to be an effect.
The current solar cycle (24) was the most stunted since cycle 14 and it looks like it’s minimum is going to be a long deep one and come in late 2019 or early 2020. About 71% of the days of the last 365 have seen the solar disk spotless.

Current SST anomaly for most of the Arctic is colder than it has been this time of year for some time despite air temperatures being relatively high.

And Joe Bastardi has been nibbling around the edges of an flip in the AMO possibly coming recently.
