Colorado’s new governor has promised 100% renewable energy for the state ….. because science.

It’s progress, man.
1005 renewable electricity certianly seems achievable in colorado…
question is how much else is renewable.
Debate and figures here:
https://www.denverpost.com/2018/10/29/colorado-utilities-renewable-energy/
Oops: 1005 = 100%. These things should come with edit!
If electricity plants no longer use coal or gas but start burning canadian forest they become renewable electricity plants?
question is…. how much they have to rely on interconnects from neighbour coal fired states.
Well, there are at least 4 HVDC grid connections to mainland Europe approved or building, for a capacity over 7GW. Links include to Denmark, Norway and places where wind resource is expected to be high and available for export.
so I expect UK will be getting a lot of power from those sources, as well as the considerable quantity of new offshore wind (more than currently operating) approved and building.
It’s cute when they quote the theoretical capacity, and not the reality.
Why do the Ms Griff’s of the world hate poor brown people so very much?
Practically anything is achieveable … if one throws enough money at it. Question is, is it justified? The Governor elect also thinks he can simultaneously enact single-payer healthcare and free pre-K and kindergarten. The Californication of Colorado is now solidified … and the meltdown begins. I, for one, won’t support such lunacy. I’m leaving.
Where to? Anyway, the front range is becoming too crowded and expensive but at least now you don’t have to be male or female on your driver’s license.
“1005 renewable electricity certianly seems achievable in colorado…”
If renewable is all there is, then 100% is achieved. The state will be fvcked over and dead, but 100% is achieved.
Party like it’s 1999.
“Debate and figures here”…
I read no debate… only a panel discussion amongst utility executives telling gullible people what they want to hear. The only figures discussed were arbitrary goals and timelines; certainly nothing substantive regarding the feasibility of 100% renewable by 2050.
Polis is a clown show, and the good folks of Colorado are caught under a collapsing Big Top.
Good analogy.
Aren’t there regulations in Colorado of how many occupants there can be in a vehicle and where they can sit and how? And what about safety belts and special kid and baby seats ? Concealed wood stick carry ?
This is so how it was when we were young in the stone age when people didn’t know how to read thermometers..
People like Griff have no idea about the impracticality, the cost, and the environmental damage, of what they are supporting. The UK has just lost a major new Nuclear proposal as old nuclear is coming to the end of its life. This means, at times of low demand, when the solar PV and windmill contribution can be met from other sources anyway, green fruitcakes will no longer be able to burn American forests in coal-converted plants, ramp up the nuclear, and claim that windfarms are beating/replacing’ coal – because the grid will be down. And despite the massive looming generation shortfall, people like Griff believe heating and transport can be made all electric, and smart meters and electric cars can be used to buffer the grid.
People like Griff are simply delusional.
I note that the proposals for new nuclear in the UK total some 17GW. Which is more than double the 7 or so GW which is currently the standard output from UK nuclear.
Frankly we won’t miss Moorside.
Since the lowest demand point for UK last summer was 17GW, it makes no sense, given there will always be some renewables around, to build up to the minimum demand level.
all UK green groups are opposed to the stupidity of Drax wood burning and I have every hope that Drax itself is moving away from this non CO2 saving nonsense.
I see no problem in achieving the UK 2050 target of 80% reenwable electricity.
If it creates an unlimited amount of ridiculously cheap energy I’m all for it.
Sigh…
Here we are, blessed to live in a time when clean, relatively abundant/cheap natural gas can generate electricity for all, using off-the-shelf proven technology. Yet average voters get conned into voting for pie in the sky, prohibitively expensive, unicorn fart schemes.
I have serious concerns about the intelligence of the average voter.
GIGO also applies to humans.
In Germany, Wind is less than 16% of nameplate for half the time
And solar is ZERO for more than half the time
They are a WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY
They CANNOT deliver on demand… EVER. !!!!
Your feeble mind is that of a GULLIBLE FOOL.
Yes, to continue Mr. GrimNasty’s list….
No Interstate Hiways can go through CO.
No gas appliances: Restaurants will need to close.
No airports: Didn’t you just spend a $Bajillion on a new Denver airport?
No more city buses; they’re all propane powered.
Nylon and polyester: out
Pharmaceuticals: out
Plastics: nope
Bond-holders of new generating capacity which must be taken offline: screwed
Trucking industry: bye-bye
Owners of private airplanes: grounded
Powerboat owners: screwed
Classic automobile collectors: sorry
CO as a possible site for national/international events? forget about it
National Football League: effectively shut down in the State
All taxpayer-funded government vehicles: scrapped
CO’s bond rating: in the toilet!
CO’s commercial real estate market: complete collapse
Watch the flow of cash into the Governor’s pockets from General Electric and Vestas!
And after the Progressives destroy Colorado, they will leave the poor dregs behind to freeze and starve. They will then move on to the next used to be red state and spoil it. Coloradans are screwed. The physical reality just hasn’t caught up with what is in play.
Should life be gridfree or grifffree ?
Live is always a box full of chocolates when a overprivileged gated community faggot
high on green marx drugs who can not knock a nail in a wall,
dreams his dream((somehow all from this party are by some strange ‘coiincidence really obsessed with AGW,renewable &(to contradict everything)religion of peace-
with no differing opinion))
But the more and more people will face the cold reality in a state like Colorady
when they face the harsh reality of cool winters, the closer we will get to an open hunting season on this sort of people,as freezing(besides hunger) is not a thing
you can adjust people to by using the typical fabian marxist tactics.
(and that”s why this bunch of violent religion worshipping pervs is trying to grab guns)
your prose, sir, is Joycean… I commend you for your exuberance of expression
The new dimwitacraps that have moved in to smoke weed, have also voted for massive tax increases. I am headed for AZ,AK, or TX to live. House is up for sale waiting for an ignorant Clownifornian to buy. Between higher taxes and higher electricity, plus having to retrofit a gas house, see yah.
Good luck. AZ is not looking very red today. Texas is turning quickly blue. AK is dark for at least 4 months a year so everything you have to do has to be done in the months when the sun never sets.
Well maybe I can buy a house here someday when this policy destroys the economy. It’s going to take something this horrible to stop the housing costs I think
