Most of the remaining homicides are done with illegal guns, perpetrated by people whom Obama has  said : “look like they could be [his] son

School shooting in Moscow, one teacher and one policeman dead. So how are the Russians at handling gun crime?

“There are fewer than 13 million firearms in circulation in Russia, compared with an estimated 300 million in the United States. That works out to about 9 guns per 100 people in Russia and closed to 100 guns per 100 people in America.

The most recent homicide statistics for Russia show that there were 21,603 killings in 2009. According to the FBI, the United States had 13,636 homicides in 2009 with a population that is more than twice as large.”

    http://www.npr.org/blogs/parallels/2013/09/19/224043848/the-u-s-has-more-guns-but-russia-has-more-murders

We have 11 times as many guns per capita, and 40% fewer homicides, with over twice the population.

So why did firearm homicides increase from 1999-2006 ?

    More guns less crime.

Armed citizens prevents Democide – Death by Government

169,202,000 Murdered by their own government [20th Century Democide]

Just to give perspective on this incredible murder by government, if all these bodies were laid head to toe, with the average height being 5′, then they would circle the earth ten times. Also, this democide murdered 6 times more people than died in combat in all the foreign and internal wars of the century. Finally, given popular estimates of the dead in a major nuclear war, this total democide is as though such a war did occur, but with its dead spread over a century….

After eight-years and almost daily reading and recording of men, women, and children by the tens of millions being tortured or beaten to death, hung, shot, and buried alive, burned or starved to death, stabbed or chopped into pieces, and murdered in all the other ways creative and imaginative human beings can devise, I have never been so happy to conclude a project. I have not found it easy to read time and time again about the horrors innocent people have been forced to suffer. What has kept me at this was the belief, as preliminary research seemed to suggest, that there was a positive solution to all this killing and a clear course of political action and policy to end it. And the results verify this. The problem is Power. The solution is democracy. The course of action is to foster freedom.

      • Jason Calley says:

Gail, you are absolutely correct about democide. I have often cited the hundreds of millions of people murdered by their own governments when speaking with “Progressive” people who favor gun control. In a surprising number of cases, the people to whom I was speaking are completely and utterly ignorant about any of the major genocides of the last century or two. Just as with speaking to CAGW cultists, the level of raw ignorance on their part is stunning.

  4. Gail Combs says:

Steve does that include the innocent people killed by cops?

500 innocent Americans are murdered by police every year (USDOJ). 5,000 since 9/11

…The annual report from the nonprofit National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund also found that deaths in the line of duty generally fell by 8 percent and were the fewest since 1959.

According to the report, 111 federal, state, local, tribal and territorial officers were killed in the line of duty nationwide this past year, compared to 121 in 2012.

Forty-six officers were killed in traffic related accidents, and 33 were killed by firearms. The number of firearms deaths fell 33 percent in 2013 and was the lowest since 1887.
    http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20131230/15411225716/number-officers-killed-line-duty-drops-to-50-year-low-while-number-citizens-killed-cops-remains-unchanged.shtml

So the number of civilians killed by cops is five times higher that the number of cops killed by criminals.

Law-abiding citizens use guns to defend themselves against criminals as many as 2.5 million times every year. Even anti-gun Clinton researchers concede that guns are used 1.5 million times annually for self-defense.

Armed citizens kill more crooks than do the police. Citizens shoot and kill at least twice as many criminals as police do every year (1,527 to 606).[6] And readers of Newsweek learned that “only 2 percent of civilian shootings involved an innocent person mistakenly identified as a criminal. The ‘error rate’ for the police, however, was 11 percent, more than five times as high.”
    https://www.gunowners.org/sk0802htm.htm

I guess if the ‘justice system’ gives cops a free pass to shoot people they will (Justice WHAT Justice)
So 606 ‘criminals’ were killed by cops. I wonder if that number includes the aproximately 500 innocent people like 80-year-old Eugene Mallory who was shot six times in his bed. John Adams 61, another shot and killed by police in a drug raid on the wrong house along with Jose Guerena was shot and killed… “The CATO Institute’s National Police Misconduct Reporting Project, in 2010 there were 4,861 reports of police misconduct involving 6,613 sworn officers and 6,826 alleged victims…. , even those who default on their student loans have been SWAT-teamed.” link

Meanwhile USA Today is trumpeting : 30 mass killings, 137 victims: A typical year
So why aren’t they bothering to cover the 500 innocents killed by cops?

  5. Jason Calley says:

Firearm murders have dropped in the US because a larger number of criminals have found that using police batons and tasers are more fun.

  6. I’m skeptical. The MSM says the opposite is true. I’ll wait for the adjusted data before making up my mind. #sarcasm

RE: Most of the remaining homicides are done with illegal guns, perpetrated by people whom Obama has said : “look like they could be [his] son“

It is an eye opening exercise to compare the US homicide rate against EU nations, first as is and then with a specific subset of the population removed from the data. The US goes from having a rate higher than any EU country (See qualifying note below) to slightly below the median. We don’t have to guess how the subset I refer to would be described as.

(Note: I last did this ~ 16 years ago, so I may now be out of date. Homicide rates for several EU nations were rising as the percentage of minority populations increased. Meanwhile, as shown above, US rate is falling.)

    • Gamecock says:

I have confirmed this recently. The homicide by firearms discharge rate for non-black Americans is under 2 per 100,000. The rate for black Americans is 16 per 100,000.

Roughly 6000 black murders, 5000 non-black murders. 13% of the population has over half the murders (homicide by firearms discharge is what the stat is called).

Gun statistics in Australia. Insignificant death stats despite there being more firearms than at the time of the Port Arthur massacre. Sharks, bees and snakes are more of problem.

  9. Andy says:

And how has it done over the last 10 years ?

  10. Larry Fields says:

New Hampshire is a 2nd Amendment friendly state — including a ‘shall issue’ law. Surprise, surprise! NH also has the lowest rate of violent crime in the country. However they don’t have any big cities.

A fun study would be to compare violent crime statistics in NH towns with demographically matched counterparts in Illinois, a strict gun-control state. But we’d better do it quickly, before President Dogpile declares Illinois crime stats to be a classified National Security secret!

  11. Bob Knows says:

Don’t expect O’Dumbo to read reports. Its unlikely that he knows how to read anything past his teleprompter.
