I’ve been pointing out for a decade that this is ridiculous, and that the heat on Venus is due to high atmospheric pressure.

The runaway greenhouse effect on Venus

Venus surface receives no sunlight for more than six months at a time during the long Venusian night, yet the temperature does not drop.

The distance to Venus from the sun plays only a small role in the cause of its elevated heat wave.

Temperatures on Venus remain consistent over time. For one thing, the planet takes 243 Earth days to spin once on its axis (and it spins backwards, at that; on Venus, the sun rises in the west and sets in the east). The nights on Venus are as warm as the days.

How Hot is Venus?

According to NASA’s definition of the greenhouse effect from the “Climate Kids” article, the heat on Venus can’t possibly be due to the greenhouse effect. Due to the very thick cloud cover, Venus surface receives very little sunlight during the day – and the temperature does not cool during their very long night. Neither daytime temperatures nor nighttime temperatures on Venus can be explained by the “greenhouse effect.”

NASA has known since 1971 that a runaway greenhouse effect is impossible.

And the US government has understood that global warming theory is nonsense, since the year Bernie Sanders was born.

The lapse rate on Venus is very similar to Earth, despite vastly different atmospheric chemistry. The lower atmosphere of Jupiter is extremely hot, despite Jupiter being almost half a million miles away from the Sun. Mars has a 95% CO2 atmosphere and is much closer to the Sun than Jupiter, yet is extremely cold. The only property of a planetary atmosphere which is useful for predicting temperature is atmospheric pressure.

The primary factor controlling planetary temperature is the atmospheric pressure. It is not the greenhouse effect. It is not the distance from the Sun. It is time to end this superstition. Venus is hot because the atmospheric pressure is nearly 100 times higher than Earth.

From the Sunday Telegraph. The good doctor forecasts no change in temperature until 2030, uncontrollable temperature increases after 2030, and says that HadCrut4 has “stabilised.”

The “stable” HadCRUT4 has declined 0.4C over the last two years, and the idea that temperatures will suddenly start increasing uncontrollably in 12 years is the thought process of a religious nutcase, not a scientist.

Global warming hysteria got its big start thirty years ago, when NASA’s James Hansen testified before Congress on a hot day in June. Government scientists predicted increasing drought in the corn belt, cotton growing in Siberia, oranges growing in British Columbia, and a huge increase in the number of 100 degree days in Washington, Dallas, Memphis and Chicago.

Let’s look how those experts did. Droughts in the corn belt have become much less common over the past century, and 1988 was the last drought they experienced.

The graphs below are from the closest USHCN stations to DC, Dallas, Memphis and Chicago. All show a sharp decline in the number of 100 degree days.

And Siberia is experiencing record cold, not growing cotton.

The scientists were 100% backwards with all of their 1988 predictions. And Hansen sabotaged the air conditioner at the Congressional hearing to scare politicians into going along with his scam.

we called the Weather Bureau and found out what historically was the hottest day of the summer. Well, it was June 6 or June 9 or whatever it was, so we scheduled the hearing that day, and bingo: It was the hottest day on record in Washington, or close to it. It was stiflingly hot that summer. [At] the same time you had this drought all across the country, so the linkage between the Hansen hearing and the drought became very intense.

… What we did it was went in the night before and opened all the windows, I will admit, right? So that the air conditioning wasn’t working inside the room and so when the, when the hearing occurred there was not only bliss, which is television cameras in double figures, but it was really hot. …  So Hansen’s giving this testimony, you’ve got these television cameras back there heating up the room, and the air conditioning in the room didn’t appear to work. So it was sort of a perfect collection of events that happened that day, with the wonderful Jim Hansen, who was wiping his brow at the witness table and giving this remarkable testimony.
