On Friday National Rifle Association CEO and executive vice president Wayne LaPierre, in a statement to the press, hit back against calls for stricter gun laws that have been raised since the Sandy Hook shooting, arguing that “gun-free'” zones actually made schools less safe by inviting armed criminals. He called for an armed police officer or guard to be placed inside every elementary, middle and high school in the United States.
Nikitchyuk criticized the proposal. “Do you really want to have a shootout like in O.K. Corral in our schools?” he told CBS News.
The point that LaPierre was making is that the shooting would not have happened if there was armed security. Shooters go after gun-free zones because they know that they can do a lot of damage. Apparently Nikitchyuk feels that what happened at Sandy Hook is better than facing the very unlikely possibility of a gunfire exchange.
If Sandy Hook Elementary School had an armed policemen two weeks ago, 26 people would almost certainly still be alive. This should be obvious to even the most disordered mind.
Do you think one armed guard is enough? Most schools are quite big places and I would have thought more than one would be necessary. After all Columbine had one armed guard on duty ….
Sandy Hook Elementary School is very small and had one entrance which was locked. I used to ride my bicycle past there on my way to work. It is very unlikely that Lanza would have attempted the shooting if he knew he would face resistance. He died of a gunshot wound as soon as the police showed up.
The security officer at Columbine was not in the school at the time the shooting started. By the time he showed up, he couldn’t get within 60 yards which is out of range for a pistol. A pistol is no match for a gunman with body armor. Security needs to have a rifle to be an effective deterrent.
I saw somewhere on line the both the Obamas and David Gregory children’s schools have multiple armed guards. Sauce for the goose…………..

Lefties have no concern about killing or murder… they just want the guns taken away.
