A volunteer who was shot during a wave of attacks on polio-vaccination teams has succumbed to his injuries in Pakistan.
That brings to nine the number of health workers killed since December 17.
Officials say the student volunteer died on December 20, a day after he was shot while helping distribute polio drops in the northwestern city of Peshawar.
Five of the nine health workers killed were women.
The bloodshed prompted United Nations agencies to suspend their campaign against polio in Pakistan after the attacks.
The Islamic terrorist group Jundullah claimed responsibility, telling RFE/RL’s Radio Mashaal that polio vaccination is forbidden in Islam.

I suspect the 48,000 kids that were vaccinated fairly recently, and came down With polio- the vaccine strain, not wild, may have a bit to do with this.

One of the problems the health organizations have to deal with is the fact that the CIA has repeatedly used them as a front for their own operations and cause the third world countries to be suspicous of the true intent of the health organizations . Another is that the third world countries with a large muslim population are infested with a culture of murder and hatred . Realize also that due to the backward religion practiced by pakistan a large number of their people are ignorant and mislead . I can understand the fear of allowing ones self to be vaccinated in todays world as you do have to wonder if the vaccines are pure and properly formulated . I wouldn’t put it past evil people to purposely contaminate vaccines in order to achieve some goal . I know , it is sad to have that distrust but it is reality today to not be able to trust even our own government .
Back-burnering the fact that different genotypes require different vaccines, ie physically compatible shots, as a father how far would you go to protect your children?

Polio vaccine is a liquid given as a drop orally. Polio vaccine is probably the safest vaccine ever developed. I have personally vaccinated as many as 10,000 in my working life so don’t be handing out my IP to Jundullah.
Polio on the other hand is a virile and extremely harmful disease with serious even fatal consequences.
I can’t remember the specific chapter in the Quran forbidding Polio vaccine – that Mohammed was sure some sort of prophet.

These morons ought to consider modern history where the single biggest increase in life span over the 20th Century was vaccination against the scourges that killed us more effectively than we could ourselves.
In the earyl 1900s average life expectancy was at least 30 years less than today.

how about they supplyclean water and sewage to those folks for far less and much more use for amenity and health? clean water and proper waste disposal all by themsleves massively drops disease levels of polio rotovirus etc. polio is soil/water borne ,hygeine removes most of the problem immediately. education works as well if not better than vaccination..

i DO have a big issue with people lying for money over others wellbeing, faking data and results or plain Not doing safety tests at all, which covers a huge slather of pharma big agri .

I know how hard it is to live without running water, having to boil all you use, carry buckets to bathe etc its no fun and a lot fo work, I dont decry modern convenience, a fridge sure beats a meat safe:-) a washing machine saves arthritis and backaches later,, not having to light a fire and wait n hour to cook breakfast etc but using a gas or electric stove, just doubt the value or worth of many of the less vital ones./
