NSIDC and AMSR2 (University of Bremen) both use 15% concentration for their data. The CT numbers are much lower than NSIDC/AMSR2 – eg 1993 was above 2Mkm^2 in those datasets.
What criterion does cryosphere today use for area?
Sunny and balmy in tropical Antarctica today: McMurdo 33 deg F; Amundsen Scott -50 F
Hasn’t cracked freezing this February at McMurdo.
The high temperature for the season at 90 degrees South was -8 deg F (back in January).

Something screwy going on with McMurdo – temperature is 18°F according to that page but their clock is 10 hours+ ahead of real time. GMT=UTC at the moment.
This says it was very briefly above freezing on the 13th. Of course, the McMurdo Airport & McMurdo Station are 5° different. Hrm.
Standing near the South Pole, that’s about a 1 minute jog.
I’m in Michigan. I could stand some weather above freezing here too!
