Obama Gets Behind Democrats’ $10.10 Minimum Wage Proposal

Where did we hear that 10 : 10 before ?

    • Gail Combs says:

Increasing the minimum wage is a real lose – lose for American workers with only a high school education. Here is why:

As of 1 May 2013, the highest monthly minimum wage in China is 1,600 yuan ($265.64 US Dollar). The lowest minimum wage was 1,010 yuan ( $165.62 US Dollar ). US minimum wage is ~$1250/month @ $7.25/hr.

That is what American workers are competing against wages of ~$0.25/ hour

In 1996 the World Trade Organization was ratified. The big change compared to other trade agreements was WTO guaranteed that import tariffs would stay steady or go down. Therefore there is no longer a chance that a business that moves its factory overseas will gets slapped with a heavy import tax a couple years later.

In 1996, in return for campaign contributions from China, Bill Clinton shifted regulation of technology exports from the State Department to the much more lax Commerce department. He also relaxed export controls and allowed corporations to decide if their technology transfers were legal or not. When easing restrictions wasn’t enough, Clinton signed waivers that simply circumvented the law. President Clinton signed the US China Relations Act of 2000 and helped China enter the WTO in 2001.

As a result of these major changes in world trade the US lost 2.4 million jobs to China from 2001 to 2008. ShadowStat shows a loss of 6.5 million jobs from December 2007 to October 2011. 2 million in manufacturing and 2 million in construction. With lesser losses in all other Job sectors except for health and education which gained jobs.

Current US Job growth is from small business because they can not move overseas like the Big Boys can. In addition to the problem Obamacare poses for small business there are 80,000 pages of new regulations in the 2013 Federal Register.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce January 2013 Small Business Outlook Survey found 82% of small businesses think the US economy is headed in the wrong direction with 54% expecting things to get worse in the next two years. 53% have not hired more employees 64% plan to keep the same number of employees.

In other words our major job creators have no confidence in the US government and any who are close to 50 virtual employees are not about to hire more. Any small business person who was thinking of expanding is not going to do so especially if it means hiring employees for the first time. Lack of confidence means you do not spend and you do not expand.

Shadowstat. (John Williams) shows the growth in his Alternate Gross Domestic Product (Blue line) went negative in 2001 (SURPRISE!) http://www.shadowstats.com/imgs/sgs-gdp.gif?hl=ad&t=1391096889

The SGS-Alternate GDP reflects the inflation-adjusted, or real, year-to-year GDP change, adjusted for distortions in government inflation usage and methodological changes that have resulted in a built-in upside bias to official reporting…

By far the most rapid shift in the world’s economic center of gravity happened in 2000-2010, (after China joined the WTO) reversing previous decades of development.

And that is BEFORE we get into Obama’s War on Coal and the closing of 10% of our electric capacity with spiraling electric costs in the future.
