Notice how mid 70s is shown as flaming red. Shouldn’t the low sixties be considered cool? (okay, unless you’re from Minnesota)
That was the first thing I noticed.
I looked at NC and thought they were forecasting 104 until I looked a lot more closely and saw it was a different shade of brown~ 72

For the longest time they had the 70’s in yellow, 80’s in orange, 90’s in red, 100’s in brown and 110+ as white.
Obviously the “climatologists” had to “adjust” the temperature scale to keep the message alive….
Yes notice how the colors in the yellow range are pretty much missing and they substituted a look alike high temp brown to confuse people who are used to seeing colors arranged in the same order as the colors of the rainbow.
The only reason I picked up on it was I KNEW the temps have not gone over 100F for the last couple of years in NC.
Looks like I won’t get much in the way of peppers this year. The evenings have been just too cool and peppers need heat. Even on warm days, it is the evenings that have been much cooler than usual.. almost fall like.
The farmer down the street who grows a couple of acres of veggies and sells them in his yard has been complaining bitterly about the rotten growing season this year and we are in NC. In twenty years it is the first time I have hear him complain.
Poor veggie season up here too. Even the field corn looks about a foot shorter than normal. By the time it’s harvested, I’d be surprised if they can get in another planting before the first frost hits. That and the fact that I’ve mowed my lawn only three times since the first of May says it’s an abnormal summer.
My white clover is still blooming for the second year in a row. Usually it is a crispy critter by June. Even the mini-drought early in July did not kill it this year.
My heat sensitive plants have done fine. The tomatoes like the cool evenings and I am now able to grow lettuce again in near full sun without it wilting. So there is some plus to the weather. When I was up in Vermont, the corn was only inches high (in July). I suspect the sweet corn crop up there is going to be a bust. It is just too cold.
Reading up on the Little Ice Age and the decent into colder weather when we left the Holocene Optimum has become apparent to me that the slide into cold wasn’t gradual at all. The cold phase was in full force in a couple years. I don’t know what the trigger(s) was, but it certainty didn’t seem to be gradual.

Yes the change in the climate can be very very fast. Three years from the Wisconsin Ice Age to the Holocene! William McClenney quoted Alley as saying only one year but I can not find an independent verification.
Hope the Coasties did some fast maintenance on their cutters in the Great Lakes this summer. They will be back out breaking ice soon at this rate.
Why not just make everything flame red despite 60-70 degree temperatures…

Meanwhile here’s some NSIDC info on Arctic Sea Ice.. what caught my eye was the continual decline from the 50’s through today despite what I thought 1979-81 were high years for the ice…

24 C is just the perfect temperature as far as I’m concerned, but NCEP sees to want people to think it is boiling hot. Or maybe they just randomly selected that colour scale?

All of our local (Spokane, WA) weather forecasters are predicitng high 90s next week, pretty much all week. This map says we should be having 70s to low 80s. Somehow I lose confidence in the map.

Wunderground has consistently predicted higher than reality temps all summer for my location. (Mid-NC)
Wunderground is pretty much the same as the Weather Channel, at least when it comes to forecasts, now. The local station network is the only thing that makes it worthwhile.
But since April/May they, the WC, the NOAA forecast for more than 12 hrs have been way off for around here in WV…I have a better accuracy record making my own forecast from looking at the maps than they do.
If I’m reading this right the data is for the average temperature, not the high temperature. Add about 10° to get the highs.
