Notice that Rogers, Arkansas makes the top ten. Folks over here in God’s country ‘Awkinsaw’, we call that Northwest Arkansas place ‘Arkiefornia’. Because it’s so big you cannot tell where one concrete jungle ends and another begins. Just like Kalifornia
I take it traffic was not one of the factors used? 😉
I never drive my car in Columbia. We have 120 miles of trails through the forest, and I do all my local transport by foot or bicycle.
Not if Fishers, IN, is on the list. I almost took a job there (NE side of Indianapolis), but took one in Avon (W/SW side of Indianapolis) instead. While traffic wasn’t a consideration, it was going to be something that I knew we’d have to endure if we’d moved to Fishers.
Avon isn’t too much better than Fishers now days. My son is the GM of the Buffalo Wild Wings in Avon. He opened that store.
I’m in the cornfields between 36 and 40. I’m quite happy. (Boy, we sure love us some roundabouts around here, though.) I’ll have to stop in that B-dubs sometime!
Rob is there afternoon and evenings usually. And of course about every time there is some big sports event going on. The kid works a lot of hours. Nature of that business when your the manager. But it shows in his pay check. Just got a nice bonus. A while back he was selected to be part of the management team that opened the first BWs in Alaska. That store in Anchorage set new records for the franchise in sales. Military guys like their wings and beer.
Why is Columbia ranked ahead of Ellicott City? One would think that a higher median income and greater job growth would count for something. Why use those measures if they don’t count?
Ellicott City is a bedroom community of Columbia
I know. I live 20 minutes down the road. Doesn’t change my question.
Not that it is important to the point you are making. What is driving job growth in a bedroom community?
All money around here ultimately comes from NSA or DOD
Living across from Ft. Meade makes it easy to agree with that.
Twenty years ago, Ellicott City was Bohemian / Libertarian and Columbia was (is) soft socialist. Slowly, Gresham’s Law did its thing and all of Howard County became a soft socialist enclave. Once I got tired of wrapping duct tape around my head from interacting with so many “liberals” i got the heck out. At least I had about ten years of good living there.
Well none of those places are on my list and that’s the only one that counts for me.
Amen to that.
Same here. I’d much rather live in flyover country, and in the part of flyover country where cold and snow is rarely seen and not wanted.
Amen to that. That is why the hubby and I moved to North Carolina. It had jobs and a nice bit of land in the middle of no where on a dirt road.
If not for the heat I would have preferred moving to South Carolina.
I see McKinney is getting an influx of out-of-state liberals, much like the rest of Texas.
Yep, they’re hell bent on turning Texas into a blue state.
Major differences in job growth among these cities. But, as you suggest, the “reserve army of the unemployed” migrates to places like Texas and then votes for policies that will make them unemployed again.
It really is amazing. That total disconnect in the Liberal mind. They move from their liberal homes to more conservative areas in search of work or better living conditions, and don’t realize why those conditions existed in their former homes. And so, they change locations but their politics remain the same. Kind of like Locusts.
They did the same thing to New Hampshire. Moved out of Boston, home of the world’s foremost Marxist scholars, and then complained NH did not have all the laws and bennies they were used to so the set out to change things.
You are correct they are Locusts or as Maggie Thatcher said:
“The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money”.
Socialists want all the bennies and all the false accolades from their adoring inferiors but they never want it to come out of THEIR wallet and never seem to figure out that it does.
I’m happiest when I can see Fort Collins in my rear view mirror.
Most on the list I would eliminate simply because of the cold winter temperatures. Forget Maryland (and Massachussetts). The state is run by a bunch of fascist anti-gun zealots. And it’s too darn close to the Cesspool on the Potomac.
1.00 EUR =1.320258 USD
The average salary offered by companies in Spain would stand in 2013 at 23,650 gross per year. But three quarters of workers earn less salary about 1,300 euros net per month.
I see a median family income in Columbia is 110 600 dollars. But what would a normal worker earn because I can’t imagine that you are all professional football players over there.
The US median wage was $27,519 last year or 20756 EUR so the workers in Spain are better off wage wise. Of course then you have to look at cost of living and taxes.
Spanish salaries are too high for their productivity. That’s why they have 25% unemployment. 50% youth unemployment.
The USA is certainly getting that way.
As a lab manager I have run into more than one high school or college grad. who thought they could come in late, take 1/2 breaks, hour lunches and then leave early. If you actually asked them to DO something you either got filthy language and no other response or they intentionally broke the equipment. Worse upper management would not let you fire them. So I just made their lives miserable and only hired people over thirty-five as replacements.
Bellevue Washington? … are you freaking kidding me? … yeah, sure, if you don’t mind living in a Communist bastion … give me a break. I was born and raised in Washington. Grew up in eastern Washington. If you want to experience lightweight communism, move to Washington. I will NEVER go back there. It is a class A, #1, freak show!
Who devised this list? … morons…
Go to the actual link…a look in the upper LEFT corner of your screen tells you all you need to know…
All coastal cities should be removed from that list because, as we all know, they will be underwater due to AGW any time now.
What the heck happened to Apex North Carolina? It used to be ranked #1 place to live in the USA..
Oh that is right, we elected a Democrat as Governor and had all the leftist Yanks move in.
Under no circumstances should any of you ever move to Wyoming especially not in Cheyenne too close to Colorado and to many liberals. We are going to Hell in a handbasket.
Liberals seem attracted to that evil oil money.
Gives new meaning to filthy, stinking rich…doesn’t it?
Wyguy – just give all the liberals guns – they will shoot each other and your problem will be solved (but of course the press will say that the guns sprang up and shot the people with no action by anyone).,
Overland Park, KS is a suburban wasteland that is mostly just residential + chain stores + little else. Top 10 place to live? Yikes. Can’t speak for the other places but with OP,KS listed here I judge this list: worthless.
Yeah, lived there from 1989-1991, about two blocks from 87th & Antioch. Besides John’s Space Age Donuts, I can’t think of anything worthwhile in OP, KS.
Eden Prairie, MN is #1? For what species? Colder than a witch’s tit in a brass bra.
I guess those places are OK, if you like city living.
