When we lived in Mountain View in the late 1990’s, my wife used to hang out with Russians in Rengstorf Park during the day. They told her that the US was wonderful – they didn’t have to work, and were able to live like kings from their government paycheck.
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

Last estimate I heard, there are bout 2.5 million federal employees who thought the same way. of course Obama touts that federal employment has not gone up – but the number of consultants has skyrocketed.
Reality always wins, it’s not if but when.
A country of 300,000,000 can not have 109,000,000 people on welfare and survive.
Especially when they count pay checks going to government bureaucrats and industrial positions dealing with government red tape as ‘GDP’
The real numbers are in 1970, 24% of the labor force worked in manufacturing (making things) with another 5 -6% in farming, mining and forestry. That is 30% creating physical wealth.
Now we have less than 9% in manufacturing and around 1% in farming. We have become a nation of bureaucrats, burger flippers and store clerks.
Don’t forget the Masseurs, Aroma therapists, and Life coaches.
I was referring to the fact that the top three employers after the US government are Walmart, Kelly Services and McDonalds.
That listing does not inspire confidence in the economy does it?
Dang, the chart got mucked-up sorry guys.
Fascinating list nevertheless. I have the great fortune of never having worked for any of them (my FF stint was with Long John Silvers).
Actually less than that are “Farming.” The bottom 1/2 of all median farm incomes are in minus territory unless all the gentlemen and gentlewomen farmers like Whoopi Goldberg, Bon Jovi, or Bruce Springsteen are subtracted from total farm income. These so called “farmers” are a distraction and a hindrance because they halt real farm subsidy reform.
However there is one bright spot that I couldn’t help but chuckle about. That bright spot is when stalwart Friend of the Farmer, Anthony (sexing) Weiner D NY, instead of taking the bull by the horns, took a goat’s horn to his hand.

It is unknown if the goat was a recipient of one of Weiner’s sexing e-mails.

“I was referring to the fact that the top three employers after the US government are Walmart, Kelly Services and McDonalds.”
Well done.
I was referring to the made-up inconsequential jobs that are left for those who can’t hack those plum Home Depot gigs.
If the “gentleman farmers” are actually producing food that is then sold then they are producing “wealth” no matter who they are.
The guy down the street with his 1/2 ac veggie garden and homemade ‘farmstand’ may be only selling $1,000 bucks a year of vine ripened tomatoes (YUMMM) cucumbers, okra, cabbage and zucchinni, but he is taking his resources and labor and turning it into a salable product – WEALTH.
Note that most of these people ARE NOT getting subsidies. The subsidies are generally for grain (and corn) so the big boys, the Monsanto’s selling seed, the grain traders, the big CAFO operators like JBSwift and Smithfield and the ADM types can get tax payer money in a way that doesn’t have the tax payer dragging out Madame Guillotine.
Grain farmers are just running the laundry.
You can sell Zucchini? IN Ohio they lock their cars not so they are not stolen, but to prevent people from putting Zucchinis in them! 😉
(just for the record, I do love Zucchini – but like any weed, it grows on its own).
You forgot to thank the Unions (backed by Democrats) for our lovely life.
Depending on how they get her; as immigrants or seeking asylum, they can be receiving up to $5000 a month. Also Russians are exceptional at exploiting the welfare and disability system. If they continue their success at this we may have to dismantle the systems in order to end the rampant fraud.
Whilst you where living in Mtn View in the late 90’s, did you ever eat at Colonel Lee’s Mongolian BBQ?
In the UK, friends of mine who worked for the civil service and other government agencies, have all retired, ages 50-55, on final salary pension schemes.
Working in the private sector, I have to wait until I’m 67yrs. Then adding to that, a quarter of my council tax goes towards paying the pensions of town hall workers.
So unlike public service early retirees, I not only have to work longer, but I don’t get the benefit of a final salary scheme and as I said, to rub my nose completely in it, I have to subsidise some of their pensions through 25% of my council tax payments. Boo hoo. 🙁
You are a serf to the bureauRats.
If it makes you feel any better, California is doing the same things as your government and is in about the same condition. Soon, many other US states will follow right behind. Cheer up, your government is headed for the same place as ours, bankruptcy. Then we can all sit around destitute in misery as our children become slaves to the elite royalties running governments around the world. Long live Agenda 21! /sarc
I like what John Galt did to combat this exact situation. Some of us know who John Galt is. Now we just need to find out “where” John Galt is. If he ain’t out there, then we are screwed. Koch Bros. need to step up to the plate and start backing their backers. All of the high Techies have gone left after getting their place on the capitalist way. Fellow capitalist need to unite and take this country back to what our founders vision was. Our country was founded and became great because of Capitalism. We need to find a way to keep it going despite the influx of Mexican, Africans, and the whines of so called African-Americans.. Each day I watch our country falter. And what sucks is that in my job I am getting inundated with non-English speaking brown/black customers and they all act as if this is normal operating procedures for our country and it makes me sick but I must take in their cash as it is legal tender…..even though they are not!!!! I am thinking that I will make my stand tomorrow and get fired, at least then I will have something that I did that I can be at peace with.
