Pentagon : Britain To Be Siberian In Five Years

My favorite appeal to authority from progressives are the military/intelligence ones. (Please excuse the oxymoron) Check out this mindless Pentagon insanity from 2004.

Saturday 21 February 2004 20.33 EST

A secret report, suppressed by US defence chiefs and obtained by The Observer, warns that major European cities will be sunk beneath rising seas as Britain is plunged into a ‘Siberian’ climate by 2020. Nuclear conflict, mega-droughts, famine and widespread rioting will erupt across the world.

The findings will prove humiliating to the Bush administration, which has repeatedly denied that climate change even exists.

An imminent scenario of catastrophic climate change is ‘plausible and would challenge United States national security in ways that should be considered immediately’, they conclude. As early as next year widespread flooding by a rise in sea levels will create major upheaval for millions.

Senior climatologists, however, believe that their verdicts could prove the catalyst in forcing Bush to accept climate change as a real and happening phenomenon. They also hope it will convince the United States to sign up to global treaties to reduce the rate of climatic change.

Can Bush ignore the Pentagon? It’s going be hard to blow off this sort of document. Its hugely embarrassing. After all, Bush’s single highest priority is national defence. The Pentagon is no wacko, liberal group

“The Pentagon is no wacko, liberal group”

But it certainly has wacko liberals in it as the evidence presented demonstrates without a doubt. Ran into a few US Army Officers that would qualify, including one that was on UN observer duty in Lebanon that tried to order me to disarm myself.

When things went to hell in late January 1984 as the Marines were pulling out of Beirut International Airport the Muslim militias stuck their AKs in the faces of the UN observers and took their nice white Jeep SUVs because they were good transportation with good radio sets in them. They told those observers to more or less get out of town (Beirut).

Some of those displaced UN observers came to the hotel we were using in Brahmana on the ridgeline over looking the city. The Hotel was owned by a high up officer in the Christian militia. We had been ordered by the US Military Mission commander to be armed at all times. And we pulled our own security. So we were even providing security for those misguided UN types too. Even when relaxing off duty each of us had at a minimum a Browning Hipower in a shoulder holster.

I and and another team member were having a martini in the Lounge. Sophi the bar tender made great martinis. Up walks this US Captain on UN duty and orders me to disarm. Says there is no reason for us to be armed. I started with the usual “With all due respect sir” by way of starting to explain his order was unlawful but that was as far as he let me get. And again belligerently said “Sgt I am ordering you to put that side arm away”. The ass hole was drunk but he was still a US Army officer. I had several different options but since there were a bunch of Lebanese in that lounge I choose to leave the bar and went to my room. I returned later to have my martini.

Britain will be Siberia in a five years – politically speaking …

The more outrageous the predictions are, the more we should believe they are real? It’s like Bizarro-world.

Maybe this is all well-established routine stuff in the fortune telling business, but I thought Climate Change research claimed to be actual science.

  6. “You just can’t make up insanity like this.”

I was watching Marsian invaders last night – it was very much the same insanity.

Perhaps you meant “insanity that belongs in fantasy world like this – shouldn’t occur in reality”?

  7. AndyG55 says:

    “claimed to be actual science”

It is.. a social and political science.. one step down from ‘home science”.

At least “home science” had a useful purpose, now of course usurped by the likes of Ramsey’s Kitchen and Masterchef , or whatever other cooking show you choose not to watch.

It will be weaker than once thought but still significant and will peak much later than that average in the fall according the Joe Bastardi and the boys at Weatherbell. He gets to the El Nino at about the 6:53 mark in his Saturday Summary video. http://www.weatherbell.com/saturday-summary-may-30-2015

        • AndyG55 says:

One should realise that the El Ninos in the latter half of last century caused a step up change to atmospheric temperatures.

The 2009/2010 El Nino caused a spike but did NOT cause a step change.

I suspect the same will happen this time, and once it is over, the general slight downward atmospheric temperature trend will continue.

        • rah says:

Actually Andy if I have understood correctly the way these things work normally. All other things being equal (which we know they rarely are with the weather) Once the El Nino ends there is usually an La Nina and the temp plunges before it gradually climbs back up to stabilize and follow the previous trend.

        • AndyG55 says:

But Rah, when the sun is having a hot flush, like it did during the latter half of last century, the energy balance is tilted to a step upwards. There is a slight underlying upward trend and the La Nina doesn’t fully counteract the El Nino.. That extra solar energy has to go somewhere.

Now that the sun is having a snooze and there is a slight downward trend, yes, the energy balance is neutral, and we get a spike, a rebound trough, then back to that general downward trend.

Unfortunately, this won’t be obvious until after the Paris socialist gathering.

        • rah says:

And it seems that the low solar activity may well continue right into the next cycle. In short, if one lives in the temperate regions of N. America BUY FLORIDA or even further south because that is the direction the “climate refugees” in my part of the world are most likely to be going for at least the next couple of decades.

The updated (March-April) MEI has risen by 0.30 standard deviations to +0.95, for a strongly increased ranking, now crossing over the ‘strong’ El Niño threshold (upper 10%ile). Something similar happened last year when the MEI peaked in April-May 2014 with +0.93, only to drop back in subsequent months. Just two years earlier, it also ramped up to similar rankings with a +1.14 reading in June-July 2012 only to revert to neutral just two months later. Therefore, I am a bit hesitant to call this a ‘strong El Niño’ just yet.

Could someone explain how a”Siberian” climate leads to flooding? Siberian is cold, not warming, obviously.

  13. Billy Liar says:

No, what they said was ‘By December 2009 Copenhagen will have a Siberian climate.’

  14. smamarver says:

Insane, agree with you! Though there were periods, for example 1939/1940, when Europe cooled, mainly due to the World War and its effects over climate: http://www.2030climate.com/a2005/02_11-Dateien/02_11.html

  15. Chris Barron says:

But if it did really happen, what would the climate in Siberia be called then ?

All it takes is someone with the ability to control the weather….
    https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/109/hr2995

If the US has it, who else has it ?

I’m not claiming a wild arsed conspiracy….just a question – IF you could control the weather somewhere….would you ?

Maybe we’re in the middle of ‘weather wars’ and just don’t know it….we need ‘climate change’ to provide the cover story as much as it is needed for other political reasons.

    Everyone speculates…

  16. Mark Bowlin says:

There’s the military Pentagon, and then there’s the civilian Pentagon (not unlike NASA), and within the DoD, there’s a civilian intelligence body and a uniformed intelligence body (like me). There’s an ocean between them in outlook — the majority of the civilians that I worked with in the greater beltway area were liberal unless they were prior military. Fewer than you might think. I suspect that this came from one of the civilian research offices — none of the navy meteorologists (all had dual degrees in meteorology and oceanography) that I worked with in 2004 remotely believed in AGW at the time.
Is there any surprise that it was suppressed (if it actually happened)?

  17. BikerDad says:

Is there any surprise that it was suppressed (if it actually happened)?

“if it actually happened” – there’s the money shot. There is absolutely no doubt that the virginal integrity and Jovian objectivity of the UK media would never allow them to make up or insanely twist a story in order to simultaneously flog one of their favorite hobby horses and lash one of their most despised whipping boys.
