Understanding The Difference Between Weather And Climate

Last winter, most of the US was cold, and that was weather. The rest of the US was climate.

This winter, most of the US is cold, and that is weather. The rest of the US is climate.

As you can see, the climate moves around (climate change) and is determined by color. Yellows and reds are climate, and greens and blues are just weather.

So very true. The alarmists play on these words at will to frighten the people and keep the pressure up. Here, in the EU, we are flooded with false information on the melting of the North Pole and Greenland, on 2015 being the warmest year ever,… Thanks for your excellent posts. Keep up the good work. Happy New Year.

The warmist rank and file have been informed that they won in Paris, so no further discussion is needed. They are now moving the debate away from temperature to extreme weather, which they hope will have a bigger impact.

The problem for them is that two can play that game, no matter what weather is thrown at me I claim it as the beginning of global cooling. At first they laugh ….”

The reason the ClimAstrologists are changing from temperature to extreme weather, is they darn well know
    1. The earth is going to cool from the solar grand minimum about to happen.
    2. A warm world has more uniform weather while a cold world has more weather extremes.
    3. The gullible Chicken Littles are too stupid to think and will believe anything the tell them.

    • RAH says:

And that was one aspect of the difference between climate and weather Tony didn’t mention in this post. Anywhere severe weather occurs it’s because of the changing climate. We here in the Americas are set to see a significant increase in Atlantic tropical storm activity over the next couple of years and probably a resurgence in severe thunderstorm and tornado incidence and severity also. Now the AGW propogandists have declared the lower than normal incidence and severity in Atlantic hurricanes over the past few years as just a matter of chance but when the new storms come and the decade long period with no major hurricanes (Cat 3 or higher) hitting the US ends, probably this year, is there anyone that doubts it will be blamed on climate?

      • Gail Combs says:

RAH, I too expect to see much more violent weather as the earth cools. More hurricanes, tornadoes, blizzards and further a long in time major drought. The last forty years has had very mild weather compared to what is in store.

        • RAH says:

La Nina years generally result in a spike in Atlantic hurricane incidence and severity.

I never have been able to figure out how people don’t understand that it takes contrasts in temperatures to create severe weather. If there was actual warming occurring the way their Bible (the IPCC reports) has stated then there would be less temperature contrast and thus less severe weather and not more!

Most folks that grew up in the US have experienced thunderstorms and felt the sudden and powerful cooling that occurs as the wind from the outflow as the storm approaches and the sudden temp drop of 15-20 degs F or more. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure such basics out if one just puts down their smart phone and pays some attention to the world around them.

          Great Observation..

Same here.. I notice all over Huff Po, Twitter, etc.. Temperature has taken a backseat to extreme weather.. And the Liars point out ANY extreme weather Globally.. As evidence of “Climate Change”…

          Total shit…

This essay Bah Humbug! by Tony Brown (historian) posted at the Air Vent is the history of the winters of Charles Dickens life. It gives an idea of just how unruly the weather can be especially during a solar minimum like the one we will soon experience.

        Conclusions and Ruminations;

Dickens life demonstrates the extraordinary variability of the British winters during that era, when the coldest and warmest winters in the CET records can be juxtaposed. Generally there are few examples of constant cold winters year after year-the LIA was becoming much more sporadic than it had been several centuries earlier, when bitter cold weather appears to have been the norm. To put this era into perspective mature English people might be surprised to learn they lived through a much colder winter than Dickens ever experienced. 1962/3 at -0.33C was the third coldest in the entire CET record compared to Dickens coldest year 1814 at 0.43c, the fourth coldest in the record. (1962/3 was a bit of a one off-Dickens experienced a greater number of relatively cold winters)

HH Lamb, (in ‘Climate, History and the Modern World’), says: “Indeed, the descriptions of ‘old-fashioned’ winters for which Charles Dickens became famous in his books may owe something to the fact – exceptional for London – that of the first nine Christmases of his life, between 1812 and 1820, six were white with either frost or snow.”….

More projection from the Tony-obsessed. 😆

So what does a Canadian soccer player have to do with climate change and/or Greenpeace?

          Gator,
Climate Communications Central is really falling down on the job. All this Warmist troll does is show how nonsensical warmists are. Are you SURE he is not a Koch Brothers’ troll?

        • gator69 says:

More OT nonsense from the projecting Tony-obsessed troll. Nobody here denies that climates change. Unlike your ilk we actually demand science over beliefs.

          WHAT WE DO

We publicize and illuminate the latest climate research in plain language, making the science more accessible to the public and policy makers.

Examples include our primer on climate change and our feature on extreme weather and its connections to climate change. We’ve also released a report on heat waves and climate change.

You have yet to present anything of any worth to any discussion, just meaningless blather.

The epitome of the very lowest end of the AGW troll herd.

At least Marty the goreboy makes a tiny but very ill-informed and misguided effort.

Certainly the LAMEST troll we have had for quite a while…

I am confused. How does CO2 know when to cause weather and when to cause climate? Does it have a smartphone?

    • Probably similar to the example above… CO2 calls NOAA and asks where they want the warms shades of red.. Next.CO2 defies the laws of.physics and travels there like a flock of geese..

      Simple huh??
