Hansen’s 1988 Forecasts

During the very hot summer of 1988, NASA’s James Hansen testified before Congress and told them that there would be a big increase in the frequency of heatwaves in the US by the 1990’s.

The exact opposite has occurred, as 1988 was the last summer when a lot of daily temperature records were set or tied.

The frequency of hot days has declined sharply in the US since the 1930’s, and 1988 was the last year when more than one day out of eight was over 90 degrees.

Hansen also predicted a 600% increase in the likelihood of drought relative to the 1950’s.

Once again, the exact opposite has occurred. Prior to 1960, the US was in drought 50% of the time. Since 1960, the US has been in drought only 33% of the time.

Hansen and his fellow clown Kerry Emanuel from MIT predicted a big increase in the strength of hurricanes, with 225 MPH winds.

Once again, the exact opposite has occurred. The frequency of US major hurricane strikes has plummeted from a peak in the 1940’s to a record low at the present.

HURDAT Re-analysis

Besides all the junk science surrounding Hansen’s 1988 testimony, Hansen and Senator Tim Wirth from Colorado picked the hottest day of the summer, and then sabotaged the air conditioning in the Congressional hearing room.

we called the Weather Bureau and found out what historically was the hottest day of the summer. Well, it was June 6 or June 9 or whatever it was, so we scheduled the hearing that day, and bingo: It was the hottest day on record in Washington, or close to it. It was stiflingly hot that summer. [At] the same time you had this drought all across the country, so the linkage between the Hansen hearing and the drought became very intense.

… What we did it was went in the night before and opened all the windows, I will admit, right? So that the air conditioning wasn’t working inside the room and so when the, when the hearing occurred there was not only bliss, which is television cameras in double figures, but it was really hot. …  So Hansen’s giving this testimony, you’ve got these television cameras back there heating up the room, and the air conditioning in the room didn’t appear to work. So it was sort of a perfect collection of events that happened that day, with the wonderful Jim Hansen, who was wiping his brow at the witness table and giving this remarkable testimony.

The people behind the global warming scam are crooks. They have been proven wrong over and over again, and instead of admitting they were wrong, they simply alter the data to make it look like they were correct.

If Hanson would have got a soft slap in the face for every wrong prediction
he would have lost his head many years ago.

  2. Steve Case says:

we called the Weather Bureau and found out what historically was the hottest day of the summer….

Tim Wirth was smug about it too.

Scientific research needs to run like a business. If the predictions made by a scientist are correct that scientist should be rewarded, and if the predictions fail, so too should the scientist.

Right now the “scientific communities” act like your kid’s soccer team. As long as the “kids” all play for the same team (no matter the skill level or rate of success), they all get trophies, including those who never actually learned how to play.

So instead of Messi, we get this…

    • tonyheller says:

Messi actually hasn’t looked much better than that recently.

      • gator69 says:

At least Messi has a record of actually scoring goals and doesn’t rely on rewriting the sports page after each season, unlike Hansen United.

      • nvw says:

Right about the time you made that post Messi was leading Barca to a 3-2 victory over Real Madrid. Messi’s 2 goals in the game were his 499 and 500 for Barcalona. He leads La Liga this season with 47 goals.

I think I’ll stick with Messi.

It starts with basic observations. When the taxpayers can understand what the scientists are saying and see that the science is sound, they are more likely to support it.

“Holy cow,” Brennan said when the penis first arrived. “Oh wow. Oh my goodness. It’s enormous!”

“Although Brennan has spent 20 years studying the sex organs of marine animals, she’s never seen anything this big,” New England Public Radio reported. “It takes up an entire lab sink.”

“So this is the tip right there,” Brennan said. “It’s not super long, it’s just wide.”

Brennan is on a new mission to protest budget hawks in Congress and the Trump administration seeking to cut funding for frivolous research.

She is attending the “March for Science” this weekend as a political activist, even though what “she’d really like to do, is get back to the lab and take another look at that killer whale penis.”

New England Public Radio explained that Brennan is a “basic scientist,” meaning she only observes how things work and is not “necessarily applying that knowledge to a particular problem.”

      http://freebeacon.com/issues/taxpayer-funded-duck-penis-researcher-now-studying-whale-penises

Dr. Brennan may be going to the wrong rally, though. I’ve seen more basic research enthusiasm at the Women’s March. Also, all the pro-vagina marchers would agree that her specimen is huge and they’d want to know how it works.

      • Latitude says:

You know CW, it’s the same people going to these marches. One week it’s gay rights, then black reparations, abortion, and global warming…..same people
So what if it’s a million….there’s probably a million people that even think all blacks should be sent back to Africa. A million is nothing, that’s .3%….there’s 319 million that did not march.

…and these marches have turned into nothing more that street parties

        • Colorado Wellington says:

That’s too harsh. True, it’s the same people, but they know so much about everything. Just think of it, without the pussy hat rallies we would never have learned about these intriguing genetic deviations …

        • Latitude says:

LOL……now that will put you off! and put a whole new meaning to “I’m not going there!”

        • RAH says:

I’m pretty sure the genesis of all this insanity was when the states closed down their mental institutions in the 60’s and 70’s. Now these self medicated A-holes not only walk among us, they make up a significant part of the democrat party constituency.

          • arn says:

            The Genesis
of all these(in the USA) was in the 60ies when the hippies were created.
The first kind of people/movement ever in history of mankind
to try to destroy the own culture,to dedevelop themselves.
Lazy pricks and parasites smoking dope and dependent from others as they don’t produce a single thing for themselve.
Whereever they appeared(either as hippies, feminists, black panthers and other tools)
they turned everything into shit-because thats what you get with hedonism, parasitism and irresponsible behaviour and antisocial behaviour disguised as socialism.
It does not matter wether black or white-those who followed their way turned their areas into shithole for the common man.
Those who did not deliver themselves to the “democratic” party are in a much better shape-socialy and financially.

          • gator69 says:

The hippies would be no threat whatsoever, if it were not for the community organizers. Progressives that play on government created fears and human emotions are the root of all evil.

          • arn says:

            @gator

The hippies are the progressives(their precursors, the link to transform communism into progressivism)
            Hippies are the neobolsheviks
and without hippies these days there wouldn’t be so many crazy leftist with one and the same opinion in your country.

Of course the hippies are turned into a tool by community organiserz
            BUT
the hippies themselves are an artificial creation ,created in Laurel Canyon(California of course, just like Black Panthers,Christopher street day)
They’d been pushed by Frank Zappa who later never wasted a chance to mock them and tell how stupid they are.
And Frank Zappa said something like:
“Democracy is an illusion that will be kept alive as long as it is usefull for the elites.
As soon as there is nothing more to gain/to profit for them they’ll pull down the scenery, pull back the curtain and you will see the brick wall at the end of the theatre”.

Without hippies there wouldn’t be this unusual divide in your society.
Selfhating people never existed in groups and on such a large scale before the hippies-never and nowwhere.
The hippies themselves are dumb ,harmless idiots but they were the fundament of progressivism and self destructional tendencies.
And the leading guys for destruction of your western culture were the frankfurt school/polymorphic perversion of sigmund freud) and bertrand russel and kalergi.

          • gator69 says:

arn, the progressives have been at this for well over a century, and simply used the smelly hippies when they showed up on the scene, just as progressives are now using the current flurry of snowflakes.

Useful idiots are only useful when they are being played. Take away the puppet masters, and all you have are unemployable idiots.

          • Colorado Wellington says:

Gator, you are unfair to the hippies. They are highly individualistic …

          • Colorado Wellington says:

… and they created innovative farming methods that don’t require machinery and fossil fuels.

      • GeologyJim says:

Hmmmm – just about everything on this poster is removed by practitioners of the “Religion of Peace”TM to spare the little darlings any sense of pleasure – or distraction from the tenets of the Koran and Sharia

        Wake up, women!

        • RAH says:

Saudi Arabia just got a seat on the UNs Women’s Rights Council.

        • Colorado Wellington says:

The poster was copied from an Islamic manual for “after-market genital modifications” but the marchers didn’t keep the color coding that identifies “removable parts”. Openings are not the same protrusions. They cannot be “removed” and must be colored accordingly.

It shows how much scientific outreach among American feminists is still to be done by the Council on American-Islamic Relations and U.S. imams.

  4. Paul Sessler says:

    Mr. Heller,

First Thanks You for your site you do an excellent job with data reconstruction/comparison, historical articles, real data and many other items. My question is since you have previously shown Land Temperature Monitoring Stations and locations how would I find out how many Land Based Systems are located in Antarctica and Greenland? From what I’ve noted areas such as these in no way shape or form can be monitored thoroughly enough to calculate down to the hundredths of degrees or for that matter since the Earth is 197 million square miles even with Satellites. Once again Thank You.

  5. “1988 was the last year when more than 8% of days were over 90 degrees”

    Do you mean 12%?

  6. toorightmate says:

James Hansen is a great man and a phenomenal scientist.

Oh Bummer told me so AND Oh Bummer don’t tell fibs.

  7. R. de Haan says:

You’re doing a mighty fine job and I really thought with Trump in Government the final nail in the coughin of the Green Doctrone as pushed by the UN and the Globalists would be set.

So I am keeping a close watch on the progress made by the Trump Government and see there is a growing opposition resulting in a “concession policy”.

Trump promised to leave the Paris Climate Agreement and break down the environmental regulations that hammered the coal industry and the economy.

The fact that a recently planned meeting about the future of EPA and the environmental policies was postponed worries me.

In Europe where we obviously have the highest density of sociopaths per square meter the French have decided to continue business as usual with the election of Macron over Le Pen.

This measn there will be no break on the insane regulations and directives from the EU apparatchiks who now have set fine dust regulations that even set limitations on the use of bedding in stables and chicken farms.

From 2030 on there will be a ban on the sales of diesel and gasoline cars and from 2050 a total ban on the burning of fossil fuels.

Against that time the sociopaths will be in control of the energy and food chain which will result in a slaughter house for their populations.

I can’t underline how important it is for Trump to execute his origional popular agenda to blow up the Globalists movement, the UN, Nato and the EU.

So let’s hope he will succeed because the alternative, the further implementation of the Green Agenda like in Europe will eventually result in mass riots and probably civil war.

In 2018 the EU will force the remaining EU member states into a fiscal union.

I really hope some small islands of sanity in Germany and the Netherlands will manage to grow opposition against this horrible concept since it will put an end to the prosperity of exactly those countries that have managed fight the downward economic spiral and grow their economy.

The US and the UK at this moment show a shimmer of hope but time is not on our side.

This whole thing is about our freedom and prosperity and I don’t want to lose it.
