Guardian – New Orleans To Drown In Fifteen Months

In 2010, The Guardian predicted Greenland would reach a tipping point in ten years, which would cause 23 feet of sea level rise and drown New Orleans. Their evidence was a chunk of ice which broke off the Petermann Glacier.

Over the last six years, the Petermann Glacier has been growing nearly ten feet per day.

The San Francisco Bay is now only 23.00 feet short of the Guardian’s 23.00 foot sea level rise prediction.

On the East Coast the situation in Miami is desperate too, with the entire ocean now covered with the condensed form of dangerous greenhouse gas H2O – famous for having the highest pH (7.0) of any acid. Had we listened to the experts, we could have prevented this tragedy.

Yes, and those with the exaggerated or false predictions never face any consequences.

          • RAH says:

Does it really matter? I mean really? It doesn’t to me. She could win the Irish sweepstakes or be looking at the wrong side of the grass and it would not change a thing of any consequence for me.

      • Phil. says:

Did you read the article? If you did you’d notice that it was not the Guardian that “predicted Greenland would reach a tipping point in ten years, which would cause 23 feet of sea level rise and drown New Orleans”.
What the scientists said in their presentation was “”While we don’t believe it is possible to lose an ice sheet within a decade, we do believe it is possible to reach a tipping point in a few decades in which we would lose the ice sheet in a century.”

I wonder why Tony didn’t quote that instead?
So losing the ice sheet in a century not ’15 months’.

I guess a heading that said Scientists_New Orleans To Drown In a Century wouldn’t be sufficiently provocative?

That’s funny, I don’t read it other than when Tony posts some distortion of their articles.

          • Colorado Wellington says:

Now you are telling us. You don’t really know if it’s carbon dioxide or quinoa and tofu that are killing the planet, do you?

Gruniad articles CANNOT be distorted any more than they already are.

The current article by Tony refutes that statement.

Where is Ms Griff? Nobody but Phil is defending the honor and integrity of the progressive scientific journal?

          • spike55 says:

          Griff,
          You’re back.

Remember the Arctic ice numbers I asked for: what year will the Arctic be ice free? Let me know.

    • arn says:

  3. Robertv says:

So when is the last time Earth had the correct climate?

  4. gregole says:

Sorry to say, and not intentionally in a mean way, but most people are innumerate. And people have a hard time visualizing enormous planetary sized spaces.

As a fun exercise, whatever the Arctic ice minimum is going to be for 2018 – and we might already have hit the minimum or something close to it – but take that minimum area, and compare it to the country you live in and really try to visualize just how enormous millions of sq km of ice really is. Compare it to the state you live in. Get a feel for how huge millions of sq km is. Then compare the millions of sq km of ice to some puny little chunk from some pathetic little glacier being publicized in a stooopid little rag. Perform the percentage difference formula. Marvel at the zeros.

An iceberg is big compared to the Titanic. It is a speck compared to the Arctic. It is a grain of sand to planet earth.

    Honest.

    Check it yourself.

    • Jason Calley says:

I am reminded of the ruckus from a few years back when the CAGW zombies were screaming that the missing heat had hidden in the oceans. “The oceans have absorbed 25×10^24 joules!” What they didn’t say was that equaled about 6 /100the of a degree over a 50 year span. I pointed that out on one of the CAGW sites and was told that “there are lots of ways to make a big number look small!”

      • RAH says:

Should have responded that there are very few ways to make a pea brain look big.

      • spike55 says:

I like to show OHC this graph, which shows just how INSIGNIFICANT the slight OHC increase has been in the scheme of time… especially compare to the LOSS of OHC during the Neoglaciation.

        • gregole says:

          Spike55,
          Excellent point.

Say can I ask a favor? I’ve been asking Andy, who has stated that there is an Arctic trend and the trend is down, to provide me the start date of said trend; and he won’t answer.

He does respond to you though; maybe if you asked him, he’d cough up a date. I’d like to run some numbers based on his start date for that trend he’s referring to.

If you don’t want to talk to him, I understand.

          • spike55 says:

Fat chance of getting a rational, science-based answer from little-andy.

He is so brain-hosed his mind is nothing but a sickly green sludge.

            DENIES the LIA,

            DENIES the MWP.

            He DENIES CLIMATE CHANGE. !!!

          • Colorado Wellington says:

Andy-Andy see trap. Not answer question. Andy-Andy clever.

    • spike55 says:

“and compare it to the country you live in “

I have reminded griff et al that this year Arctic sea ice will bottom out at over 20 times the area of the whole UK

Or on another site, at over 13 times the area of Germany

Doesn’t compare well to the area if Australia though, being only about 2/3 of Australia’s area.

But, that is still ONE HECK OF A LOT of sea ice. :-)

  5. MGJ says:

    Tony,
Your response fully covers the three most apt responses: laughter, derision and sarcasm.
    Nice one.

  6. GW Smith says:

I”ll be sure to check with Richard Alley next time I need a prediction. He probably got promoted.

  7. John of Cloverdale, WA, Australia says:

Tony, my old swimming hole at Coogee Beach (back in the 1950’s) still hasn’t changed much since it was built in 1907. An interesting article from our normal climate alarmist ABC about the many tidal pools around Sydney, some of which were built in the late 1800’s. Surprisingly, no mention of rising sea levels, or Climate Change, in this ABC article. I imagine the Reporter and the Editor don’t work there anymore.

Most people prefer not being eaten by a Big White. But what better place than the Ocean to cool down on a HOT CO2 low summer day in the beginning of the 20th century.

  8. Griff says:

Same old stuff, same old non evidence.

    • RAH says:

Can’t see any evidence in the dark smelly place your head is stuck all the time.

Fact is NOTHING, not a single disaster the alarmists have predicted has happened and there are no indications any of them are going to in the time frames given. That’s all the evidence any thinking person that pays attention needs.

    • arn says:

A million completely failed bold predictions.
      Climategate.
      Manipulating data.
Promoting of global cooling until the beginning of the 80ies.
Deying that promoting of global cooling ever existed(which is here exposed as lie on daily basis)
      Climate Gate 2.
No drowned island, because:No change in sea level rise.
(if sea level rise was real these idiots PR-kayaking to the north pole and failing to do so,would be PR diving the drowned islands and placing

When will the Arctic be ice free Griff.

    • sunsettommy says:

I find it interesting that no one mentioned how much more snow/ice is present in the areas surrounding the Petermann glacier 2018 pic than in 2012.
