Heh – this is almost as good as the time in 2003 when a bunch of Texas Democrat legislators, both House and Senate, refused to be present while the legislature was in session to block a quorum and prevent a vote on redistricting, which they would lose. They actually had to flee the state to avoid being arrested by the Texas Rangers.

What he is accused of.falls into a class of things that happen every day amongst those who occupy elected office, but only those selected get charged with anything, and then only when suddenly it’s offensive for some non-related reason.
In Illinois two out of three of the last governors ended up in prison for such every day offenses. Blago for ‘selling’ a senate seat… of course he wants something for it. That’s how politics works. Ryan for CDL’s for campaign contributions… again… it’s everyday behavior. Government without selling access to certain business opportunities wouldn’t be government. But nobody liked Blago and one of Ryan’s CDL holders killed a family… then suddenly it’s a problem. Just like with Perry. He used the funding for leverage and now that’s a problem. Worse is that the public was aware.
Maybe that’s Perry’s real offense, much like Blago’s phone calls, it’s the public knowledge. Breaking the illusion the public has about government is the worst possible offense. Politicians have gotten away with the worst crimes imaginable, but not spoiling the illusion. That threatens the racket.

I’m fairly confident that a majority of citizens don’t want a belligerent drunk district attorney running the Public Integrity Unit. Perry was merely giving his constituents what they want. Not sure how that action rises to the level of a ‘crime’ regardless of motivation….

Rick Perry will force vaccines upon children if he gets a check from the manufacturer. He did that, remember? Isn’t that rather “progressive” of him? Rick Perry doesn’t believe in self-ownership apparently, well at least not over his bottom line. How is that any different than a typical progressive? The idea that he is somehow better because he’s ‘team R’ is the real propaganda crap.
He plays the game. This is what happens in the game. He’s going after someone’s gravy train. He’s doing it a manner that could wake people out of their coma. If you threaten the system, you get picked for removal one way or another. That’s how it works.
It’s not “progressive” in any shape or form to point that out. It’s the opposite of it. I enjoy government being exposed for what it really is, progressives do not.

One thing I will have to check on is whether quislings like you popped up like Jack-in-the-Boxes whenever Hitler’s SA committed some outrage in the 20’s. Since human beings are awfully consistent in their behavior, I’m betting I can find similar examples.

What I have proposed is my view. Politics appears to the average american to be a sport, like football. However that is not what it is. Sure we see a competition over the spoils of government, plundering us, but that’s the extent of it.
In the NBA, NFL, etc and so forth the teams are not to do things which harms the league. The same is true in government. Like the league wishes to keep a good image, government requires people have certain beliefs, images, illusions. Like the Wizard of Oz we are not supposed to see behind the curtain.
When an elected office holder faces criminal prosecution I find it is usually because he did something that pulled the curtain back so us mundanes can see the reality.
Furthermore, I’ve been around here awhile, other than Gail and _Jim few people notice me until a make a comment that goes against both teams that is construed as going against team R. Then suddenly I am “progressive”, despite never expressing a single progressive view here.
Perry is no saint. And he does play the game (playing it got the ire of a drunken sot). However this is not the game. You debate. You do not use Malicious prosecution. Indeed, the very basis of the justice system is that Malicious prosecution should NEVER happen.
She will be lucky if she does not spend the rest of her miserable drunken life in jail. But she is not alone. Christie, McDonnell, Walker – they all have drunken democrat cretins doing the same thing. Malicious prosecution.
I hate driving through Austin. Can’t imagine living there. And that is the focal point from which this partisan crap comes. The large cities in Texas are bastions of the liberal way and none more so than the State capital. They are islands of liberal fantasy surrounded by 268,580 sq mi of conservative Texas reality.
The problem with US politics for the last few years, and is getting worse, is the extremism getting more and more popular. It was like the UK in the 1970’s and 1980’s when we had right with Conservatism and left wing Labour. Both now have come to the centre, so much so that the poor old Liberal Democrats who saw that gap have been squeezed out.
Perry may or may not have done the wrong thing, the problem is it is now hard to tell how bad it is with so many axes being ground. You get the feeling or the mountain being made out of a molehill so it tends to lessen the impact when something wrong is done.
In the UK we have had our same here though, mainly through expenses claims not being correct, which, in the political sphere is not too big a deal, but is on the financial side where we want our politicians to be upright.
In this Perry case hopefully justice will be done whichever way it turn out.

Sarah Palin hit the nail on the head. It does not matter the conviction. democrats want the headlines of the indictment. They are clearing the field for Hillary. So far, they have Christie, McDonnell and now Perry. They tried Walker, but lost in their first attempt. But they continue to try on him. Any idiot of a republican that thinks they are safe is more stupid than the democrats. Anyone can be arrested and charged with a crime at any time. Making it stick is not the issue.
Yes their play book has been quite obvious since they went after Tom Delay to get him out of the way and then Palin. They can beat up on Christie all they want. As far as I’m concerned he’s one of them. I wouldn’t count Perry out just yet though. Walker beat them badly and Perry just might also.

Perry will beat them badly – and I suspect the DA that instigated this will be brought up on charges as well (think Nifong). However the goal is not to get him in jail. It is to put that asterisk by his name “Indicted”.

I am perfectly willing to beat up on members of either party, Republican or Democrat — but this sure looks like a case where the Democrats are simply playing dirty politics and smearing Perry for no legitimate reason.
I suspect that the real and underlying reason why they are attacking him is because of his recent stance on using the National Guard to protect the border and impede drugs coming in. His actions there were making him too popular, not just in Texas, but nationwide. Additionally, placing troops at the border was highlighting Obama’s refusal to defend national border integrity. The Dems stated reason (persecution of Ms Lehmberg) is just a show to make them (the Dems) look like victims.
I like Sarah Palin. 8 years ago I thought she was a bit crazy, eccentric, but she has infinitely more brain cells than the TelePrompTer.

I would have voted for Palin at the top of the ticket in a heart beat. But as we see, if VP, she would still be sitting at the back of the McCain bus.
I fully recognize that for the thinking person more often than not when you vote your picking what you believe to be the lesser of two evils. I wrote in Ronald Regan during the last presidential election. But after this last 8 years experience I would even reluctantly give Romney my vote though Christie lost me long ago with his policies and the GW bridge lane closure fiasco.
this is sooo nakedly partisan that I’m hoping that this is the time that the Donks have just went too far in the eyes of the public. It is very much dependent on Perry’s personal popularity if he can beat this back. It’s a sad state of affaairs.
Perry needs to fight this even if it detracts from governing. Sarah Palin made a mistake in quitting when she was given this treatment. People need to realize that this is warfare carried out by the bien pensant Left. Under those circumstances, everything else is secondary.
Perry needs to fight fire with fire. He needs to assemble his own investigation into the Austin unit if at all possible. He needs to break out a can of woop ass.
