While levels worldwide are expected to rise an average of two to three feet by 2100, they could surge more than six feet along the Atlantic seaboard. The study named Boston, New York, and Norfolk, Va., as the three most vulnerable metropolitan areas.
Fortunately, Manhattan has had a tide gauge for the past 150 years. which shows a small linear rise in sea level, due almost entirely to land subsidence. There has been no acceleration as CO2 has risen, indicating no correlation.
The graph below plots the New York Times prediction in red, and the measured data in blue. It gives a good indication of the mindless stupidity going on at the New York Times.
The actual facts have never interfered with the NYT agenda before.
Remember Jayson Blair?
Remember the USSR KGB agent Walter Duranty, best known for his stringent denial of the genocide of the Ukrainian people, known as Holodomor? Duranty refused to report on the man-made famine that killed up to twelve million people.
Duranty won the Pulitzer Prize in 1931 and the NYT refuses to give it up. In 2003, they hired a Columbia University professor of Russian history to review Duranty’s work. Professor Mark von Hagen concluded that Duranty: “frequently writes in the enthusiastically propagandistic language of his sources,” and that “there is a serious lack of balance in his writing.” He recommended that “For the sake of The New York Times’ honor, they should take the prize away”. link
Professor Mark von Hagen’s review was given to the Pulitzer board which, despite this, has allowed Duranty to keep his prize. The NYT despite that review displays his picture as a prize winner. The struggle is currently still ongoing.
It seems the NYT has since changed it’s tune (and re-written history) since I last looked.

The fact they are STILL supportive of Duranty tells you all you need to know about the politics at the NYT

Thanks for that excellent post. If you haven’t read it, I’m sure you would enjoy Ann Coulter’s book “Treason.” Its an excellent historical chronology of the treasonous left.

I learned about land subsidence in 6th Grade science class back in the Dark Ages. When I took Ecology 40 years later to get my Bachelors of Science in Business Management bringing up the subject of continental drift and its role in “rising sea levels” earned me a “deer in the headlights” look from the professor.
The same political party dominates the educational establishment and the mainstream news media. It’s a wonder that we Americans can read and write.
Oh, wait! The mainstream news media keeps harping on how our educational establishment has failed us: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/11/30/eric-ries-how-the-us-educ_n_1121696.html
Imagine that: Huffington Post!
I don’t know how deep the sea water is at City Hall in New York City (I don’t see any) but the Bravo Sierra level has buried the Big Apple more than a century ago.
How come the Global Warming Mob hasn’t mentioned the Bravo Sierra tsunami?
Oh, that’s right–they’re a big Bravo Sierra pollution source.
This is the original article they’re quoting from:
http://www.nature.com/nclimate/journal/v2/n12/full/nclimate1597.html
Sadly, the abstract doesn’t mention what data they’re basing their predictions on, nor does it mention any comparisons with existing tide gauge records.
Never does… The Alarmists media constantly publishes hype, hysterics, and Fear… based on garbage studies and computer models…
My computer model stopped working in the year 2000.. y2k… The Apocalypse. ..
Of course not. If you are a progressive and a climatologist you are really only a progressivist. It’s all about serving the fuehrer, never about doing real science.

Isn’t that gov’t run? With taxpayer money? Shouldn’t this be public domain?

Preparing the sheeple for Zero to override again.
jesus wept, how can anyone publish that shite with a straight face .
It is beyond stupid but as Zero will want to over-ride Congress on some environmental matters soon the the sheeple have to be prepared. Make a memerable (and stupid) article like that prepares the ground – the sheeple will recall a vague and near coherent script and feel they should approve of action.
How many Manhattans of sea level rise would it take?
NY Times comments are already closed… I wanted to point out as Steven mentioned… All they had to do was walk down to Battery Park.. check the tide gage.. hilarious the stupidity. .
Check out the comments… This is what we’re up against… sheer stupidity and brainwashing. ..
I followed the examples of Tom Steyer, Al Gore and Australia’s own Tim Flannery, I found a cheap waterfront beach shack and bought it for the family. If BIG GREEN does not believe in there own sea level warnings, why should I?
Good point.
And I keep offering to take South Pacific islands of the current owners’ hands, saving them from the daily fear of inundation by rising sea-levels.
But no takers.

Maybe the moon is going to move closer to the earth because of all the CO2 in the atmosphere?

Isn’t is strange that seemingly intelligent people worry about the weirdest things? Obviously these alarmists aren’t helped when the New York Times publishes sensational nonsense.
Norfolk is vulnerable. But not due to the climate. It has been sinking for thousands of years, and continues to do so. It has to do with erosion, plate tectonics and a meteor eons ago. I am sure there is a paper linking all of those to man made climate change in the works.
The New York Times forecast might be better depicted as an exponential function. The increasing slope of the curve would underscore the ignorance of their projection.
The broadcast & print media are now admitting thAt they’re doing “opinion journalism” It’s all that’s left for the lames stream.
All of the non-believers will really be sorry when Hawaii sinks under the Pacific. After all, it has already almost sunk maybe, almost, well it might, can I get a scientist to review this, maybe I can get him a Government grant. Is Florida under water yet? Iceland has a volcano under hundreds of feet of ice. Has it sunk yet? I’m so confused……..
Don’t forget Guam tipping over…
I find it curious that Norfolk is the poster child for sea level rise, but Hampton, which is directly across the James River from Norfolk, is not. Could it be that lower-level land is more susceptible to flooding? Imagine that!
Is it possible that the tide gauge in Battery Park has been skewed to the upside by the expansion of filled in land from the park all the way north to Chambers Street. Battery Park City began its construction in the early 1970’s. Would the displacement of water affect the nearby gauge?
