And note that Kahului is on Maui that is slightly sinking as Hawaii Island grows. Oahu and Kauai rise slightly as they age and move away from the hot spot.
The vertical ordinate appears to show an increase of about 200mmover 60 years.
If true, this would be interesting information, as this trend runs counter to what the two other sites you posted suggest.
In addition, this chart has some indications of a PDO impact, but only within a larger trend. Is there a very long term cycle in the Pacific, sort of a super PDO?
Kihei is very adjacent to the most recent lava flow to have occurred on Maui and perhaps there is some volcanic deflation going on below Maui. To be honest, it would probably be a net positive if all of Kihei disappeared under the waves, given what they’ve done to the place. I’d not be surprised to learn there are more invasive species per hectare around Kihei than all the rest of the islands, combined.
