The Pueblo Leader – Jan 28, 1913
One of the greatest scientists in the world is Arrhenius of Sweden. He is a chemist and physicist, and has studied this matter. He shows that this proportion of carbon dioxide in the air will make the climate warmer,
Greenland will have a good climate for farming. All the good soil of Canada will be in as temperate a climate as that now enjoyed by Missouri.
Corn will be grown in the Peace River Valley. Oranges will be an orchard fruit in Arkansas and Virginia. The surburban residents of Chicago may literally sit under their own fig trees and scuppernong grape arbors. Cotton will be a stable crop in Iowa. Bananas will fringe the shores of the Gulf. Siberia will become the greatest farming country in the world. The great Antarctic continent–one of the greatest on earth in extent—will be the Western Canada, the Scandinavia, the Siberia of that day, and will have millions of people. Alaska will be as warm as Maine now is

It takes a very dark mind to make something bad out of something good. Except DC summers are already way too hot as it is.
DC summers are not ‘way too hot’, they’re ‘way too humid’. Temperatures over 100°F wouldn’t be too bad if they weren’t accompanied by 100% humidity.
There is a reason the frozen tundra would release methane if thawed, it used to be alive when it was much warmer. I doubt we’ll see that level of warmth again as the Holocene inexorably declines. http://i49.tinypic.com/oji4b7.jpg
I wonder what Arrhenius would have thought had he the ice core data available. He did lower his estimate of climate sensitivity for CO2 to 1.5°C per doubling, something the IPCC likes to ignore. Also, did he realize it might be a log function as so many natural processes are.
Check out the gas engine on page 4, lower left corner of the newspaper above.
The Most Curious Gas Engine In the World.
An aircraft engine?
4 stroke and 4 cylinders in X cylinder configuration, that moves in a scissor like manner. Has only 1 spark plug and good fuel economy.
1600 rpm max, yielding 60 h.p., and weighing 209lbs.
How to cool, lubricate, spark time, and fuel this strange beast?
Very strange!
Very curious engine. Pistons coming together like blades of a scissor. Fuel/explosions between adjacent pistons. Chamber appears to be a doughnut but how is it sealed for rods while pistons go together? I don’t see how it works from the information give.
Humans have always starved and died in huge numbers during cold cycles and thrived during warm times. If we could affect the climate at all we should be doing everything possible to promote warming. Opposition to warm times is the same as advocating massive starvation, suffering, and death.
Back at least 20 years ago there was a book published by environmental scientists at UCLA that detailed all the ways that a warmer climate would be beneficial for most humans and other species. None of the alarmists/fear mongers would allow it to be circulated. I saw a copy once. I don’t remember the details of author name or title. It would be good to see it again if anyone else remembers the book.
