A new global warming study claims that the earth was warming rapidly after 1960.
According to the study, the rate of global warming sped up again around 1960, a reflection of the sharp rise in carbon emissions from industrial activity in the booming post-war economy.
This is the exact opposite of observations from the 1960’s and early 1970’s.
Compare with a 1974 CIA report on global cooling.
The western world’s leading climatologists have confirmed recent reports of a detrimental global climatic change. The stability of most nations is based upon a dependable source of food, but this stability will not be possible fender the new climatic era. A forecast by the University of Wisconsin projects that the earth’s climate is returning to that of the neo-boreal era (1600-1850)-an era of drought, famine, and political unrest in the western world.
The climate change began in 1960, but no one including the climatologists recognized it.
A 1975 National Academy of Sciences report had this graph, showing a sharp cooling from the late 1930’s through the 1960’s.
In 1974, Time Magazine warned of another ice age.
NCAR showed a sharp drop in temperatures through the 1960’s

Climate Change and its Effect on World Food
by Walter Orr Roberts Aspen Institute for Humanistic Studies, and National Center for Atmospheric Research, Boulder, Colorado
In February of 1972 earth-orbiting artificial satellites revealed the existence of a greatly increased area of the snow and ice cover of the north polar cap as compared to all previous years of space age observations. Some scientists believe that this may have presaged the onset of the dramatic climate anomalies of 1972 that brought far-reaching adversities to the world’s peoples. Moreover, there is mounting evidence that the bad climate of 1972 may be the forerunner of a long series of less favorable agricultural crop years that lie ahead for most world societies. Thus widespread food shortages threaten just at the same time that world populations are growing to new highs. Indeed, less favorable climate may be the new global norm. The Earth may have entered a new “little ice age”

Goebbels would be proud of his global warming soul mates.
Fossil fuel consumption may have dipped during the great depression, but it increased during WWII and then appears to have decreased shortly after before taking off in the ’50’s boom. http://www.eeb.cornell.edu/howarth/HUGHES%20Cornell%20Ithaca%20May%202%202012.pdf so the idea that reduced consumption staved off global warming looks like an overreach.
I remember all the next Ice Age skeers back in the early ’70’s. Very wise men were telling us that the glaciers would be covering us by the mid-1980’s. Had a meterology prof give us the real skinny on the advancing glaciation until we started calculating the speed of the leading edge of the glacier over North America and whether we could stay ahead of it on foot, bicycle or would need a car. Guess I became a “climate denier” about 40 years ago.
