The tenth deadliest Atlantic hurricane occurred during 1909, which NASA says was the coldest on record. The only hurricane on that list which came during a warm year was Mitch in 1998.

    Tell me, what’s the conversion formula from death toll to Saffir-Simpson? This last has more to do with when (predating modern technology) and where (South America, Carribean) the hurricane hit rather than strength. Flora was a Category 3, and Fifi was a category 2.
