And you can keep your insurance if you want, PERIOD. Ignorance and arrogance, a deadly combination.

“… Global sea ice are will likely surpass the all time record maximum this month …”
Wow, it keeps getting better and better! I’m crossing my fingers!

I was just told I was spouting Oil company propaganda (again & still) for saying the above.
By someone I know who I thought was fairly enlightened about things. God I’m deppressed.

Hey Dave. It is scarey and depressing — if you let it be. I have had very similar experiences with people close to me. Please note that I am not talking about the high ranking “scientists” in the CAGW movement — just the rank and file believer, but believers who are much brighter than the ordinary person. There is one thing that I find they have in common, and that is a certain emotional bias toward their support of CAGW. They don’t just disagree when challenged, they get angry, really angry.

You have probably had very bright friends who fell in love with scoundrels. No matter how you try to convince them that they are being abused by their girl-friend/boy-friend you hit a brick wall. “But she would never do THAT! You don’t know her as well as I do!” You know the scenario. Well, anyway, your enlightened CAGW friend has fallen in love with a belief system. Facts will not dissuade him. Stay friends with him; he is suffering a temporary mental aberration, a sort of “virus of the mind.” In time he will almost certainly recover. Meanwhile, there must be other topics that make him worth speaking with.

      • On the other hand, this is a critical time in human history, with aggressively confrontational dogmas in ascendance over reason, among large segments of the population. Your friend may not have all the time in the world to come to his/her senses.

The problem is nearly everything bad going on to talk about leads back to the MMGW scam. ie:- Smart growth, spying, smart meters, high power prices, higher taxes, Political correctness. it all falls under UN Agenda 21, and the machanism for the public to except the end of their freedom is the “we are all going to die because of the evil man made climate change. At this point I cant be around people who have this self destructive beleif system, it just make me want to punch them.

“your enlightened CAGW friend has fallen in love with a belief system.”

        Good analogy.
Belief in CAGW is the result of highly successful cult programming. Multitudes of believers have modeled their entire earthly existence around this meme – they consider themselves to be well-informed ‘saviors of the world’ and the ego perceives any contrary information as a threat to its noble mission. This self-important, fear based world view is a psychological disorder.
We can (and should) help others escape from the cult of doom, but please combine honesty with grace – shattering this sort of belief system can be quite traumatic in respect to self-image and defensive anger will be the typical reaction.
