Why Jeff Masters’ Big Lie Was So Important

Jeff Masters rushed to press that Yolanda had the highest wind speeds ever at landfall, before there was any actual surface data available.  It turned out that he exaggerated the wind speeds by more than 30%.

His claimed basis was satellite approximations made at altitude hours earlier over open water. Wind speeds are always going to be higher above the surface -because there is less friction. And of course we don’t have any comparable data for storms like Camille in 1969.

The only apples to apples comparison we can make is that Camille had surface measurements in excess of 190 MPH, and Yolanda was below 150 MPH.

So why did Masters do it? The only way to blame this storm on global warming was to make it a record. Once the legend was created, it propagated and will stay out there for at least a year before the dust settles.

“He who controls the past controls the future. He who controls the present controls the past.”

    That’s how progressives work

  2. This means he also exaggerated the destructive power by more than double (2.2x). Wind power is a function of the cube of the wind speed. 1.3^3 = 2.2

Masters is just trying to create a bigger lie and thus become a greater Eco Hero, than Mikey or Al.

There is money and fame in promoting eco hysteria and the bigger the lie, the greater the distortion, the better the seat on the Greenie Gravy Train.

Masters doesn’t understand our masters are preparing for the biggest slaughter house in the history of human kind and when the cowards with our establishment decided they no longer need his services, he will be one of the first to go. http//:green-agenda.com

on the data. We’re basing them on the climate models.”

Maybe not all warmists are dishonest, after all…

Interesting point indeed…if Laden accuses WUWT of underplaying the ‘cane, the same argument (and more) can be done about Masters overplaying it.

He received bachelors and masters degrees in meteorology from the University of Michigan, where he later returned for his PhD in air pollution meteorology. During the seven-year break between graduate programs, he worked as a Miami-based flight meteorologist for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA).
This is who Masters is. He also believes that humans are altering the climate. Enough said.

Why did mother nature throw these idiots a bone? Perfect timing for the typhoon to occur with the Warsaw Climate Talks.

  8. Andy DC says:

So from here on out, every weather disaster will be blamed on global warming, even if same or similar disasters have been going on forever in the past.

And in the end they’ll become even greater liars than they’re now…
    Our actions have consequences.

The Obama administration and GE are in bed together as green partners in crime, GE owns the weather channel, weather channel owns Weatherunderground, Jeff Masters founded the Weatherunderground. This explains it all.
