Classic Climate Criminal Behavior Right Here In Fort Collins

A new CSU sanctioned study shows how desperate the climate criminals are becoming. In the middle of our second coldest February on record, the local rag runs this :

Fort Collins summers heating up Amid a February cold snap, study predicts the number of days over 90 degrees will more than double by next century.

Last week the Rocky Mountain Climate Organization released a report on heat waves in Fort Collins, which predicts that the number of the city’s hot days, with temperatures more than 90 degrees, will double or even quadruple by 2100. The city of Fort Collins commissioned the report for $2,000 and plans to use it to update its community climate action plan, said Lucinda Smith, the director of the city’s environmental services department.

While the city plans to discuss this week how the study will impact future regulations on greenhouse gas emissions, Fort Collins residents likely will feel the heat increase in other ways.

The study Smith hired the Rocky Mountain Climate Organization to run the study, the results of which were reviewed by the Colorado Climate Center and Scott Denning, a professor of atmospheric science at Colorado State University.

The study looks at the number of hot days — days of 90, 95 or 100 degrees — Fort Collins has had since 1961. But the study is unique because it looks forward to 2100 and uses climate models to predict the number of hot days the city will experience over the next several decades.

Let’s look what these felons did. They started the study at a low point in 1961, right after the hot 1950’s. But it gets worse. In 2002, CSU built a parking lot around the Fort Collins weather station – and 90 degree days shot up immediately.

The weather station used to be in the middle of a farm, and since 2002 it is in the middle of an asphalt parking lot/bus transit station.

In 2002, a fourth major move was threatened as the CSU Transit Center was built onto the north end of the Lory Student Center. After surveying several potential alternate sites for station, university administration agreed to leave the station in place

While the station has been managed and operated consistently over time, the environment around the station has changed dramatically as the campus expanded and the city of Fort Collins mushroomed in population since the early 1960s. The result is a profound and detectable warming trend observed in Fort Collins temperature data. A large part of this trend is likely the result of the gradual formation of an “urban heat island”.

Nearby Boulder shows a decline in 90 degree days since the 1950’s.  This study is fraudulent at so many levels, it is mind boggling.

This took me 10 minutes and I did it for free.

  1. Wonder what would happen if on a nice, warm summer day in Fort Collins we held some of their heads to that asphalt for a couple hours?

    • I remember one July afternoon riding my bike downtown, which is adjacent to campus, A mile away, it was about 85 degrees. Downtown it was close to 100 degrees, due to all the brick and asphalt.

I gave up on Judith Curry a while ago. I don’t know what she think’s she’s doing, but its not helping the cause.

It’s never about science with these criminals.

    • John B., M.D. says:

      It’s about “the cause.”

    • Louis Hooffstetter says:

I would bet Judith Curry gave up on Michael Mann long before he gave up on her. Dr. Curry has integrity; Mikey does not.

I remember Jeb Magruder saying in an interview about Watergate, “When you start allowing dirty tricks, Gordon Liddy is what you end up with” (and you’re on your way to stunts like the break-in).

Similarly, in science when you start tinkering too creatively with raw data, then Michael Mann is what you end up with.

In the Station Information link it says:

“The result is a profound and detectable warming trend observed in Fort Collins temperature data. A large part of this trend is likely the result of the gradual formation of an ‘urban heat island’.”

Apparently the geniuses who conducted this study didn’t read that part. Or they knew about it but chose to ignore it to ‘help the cause’.

I found video of the official RELEASE from the Rocky Mountain Climate Organization. 😉

One of the women in the background is heard shouting ‘OK, I think we’re done here’!

Steven, listen up …. You MUST get this information published in as many of your local periodicals as you can. If at all possible, even if you need to bribe someone, you need to get your information published into the same publication as response to their “study”. Blow these assholes out of the water, and suggest to others in your community a class action suit against the publishers of this so called “study”.

This can be done! .. and it is high time that we begin taking these measures and calling the f@ckheads out on this. Hit them in their pocket books, hit them in the courts .. hit them all around the freaking block!

I have posted this comment to the article at Coloradoan.com

This is all a completely fabricated LIE!

Read the TRUTH about the temperatures in Fort Collins. Quit being stupid cattle!

I would encourage all of you here to do likewise and send letters to the editors and management of that publication (I am).

You realize that the Coloradoan is a Gannett holding. Gannett does this crap on purpose, and local radio has been running wildfire adverts non-stop since it went below 0F in Jan. Not when it was cold in Dec.(-17F). They have to keep the AWG cause going or there is no reason to shut down the coal fired power plants, or ban fracking. A school in Ft. Collins flew a Saudi Arabia Flag above and and much larger the American Flag. Barely a mention and no picture in the Coloradoan.

  6. Donna K. Becker says:

I’d be willing to contribute. What about Kickstart?

  7. Anything is possible says:

I trust you have passed this on to Gavin, Steve. He will need to adjust the modern Fort Collins temperatures UPWARDS, in order to compensate (:

  8. Pathway says:

I thought that AGW theory held that there would be little change in summer temps. but that winter temps would increase. Please correct me if this is wrong.

  9. Steve: Tomorrow in Fort Collins: (from comment by Bob Vocke in article you mention)
EPA – Tomorrow, Gina McCarthy, Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Nancy Sutley, Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality; and David Agnew, Director of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs will join Fort Collins Mayor Karen Weitkunat to tour projects to restore the Cache la Poudre River and strengthen its resilience to climate change impacts such as higher temperatures and extreme weather events. When floods struck the Front Range of Colorado in September 2013, the City’s proactive planning and river habitat conservation efforts helped mitigate the impacts on Fort Collins. Following the tour, the officials will hold a press conference at the Natural Resources Research Center in Fort Collins, which is one of seven Climate Hubs launched by the U.S. Department of Agriculture last week to offer the practical, science-based tools and strategies farmers and ranchers need to adapt and succeed in the face of a changing climate.

Supporting state and local efforts to protect communities from the effects of climate change – such as more frequent and severe extreme weather – is an important part of President Obama’s Climate Action Plan. In recognition of Mayor Weitkunat’s leadership in helping Fort Collins prepare for climate impacts, last November she was named as a part of President Obama’s Task Force on Climate Preparedness and Resilience to advise the Administration on how the Federal Government can respond to the needs of communities nationwide that are dealing with extreme weather and other climate impacts. The Task Force held its first meeting in December at the White House.

  11. Andy DC says:

Fort Collins is no doubt barely the tip of the iceberg. NOAA, which is little more than a deceitful alarmist propaganda institution, has total control over station siting and calibration of instruments.

You would have to be a total idiot to not see that they are “adjusting” temperatures here in the DC area, especiallly doing so with the “offiical” station, National Airport. Almost always in daytime, National measures 3-5 degrees higher than surrouding stations and sometimes 5-7 degrees warmer than my car thermometer, when it never used to do so several years back.

  12. kuhnkat says:

But Moshpup et. al. did a statistical study that compared urban anthropogenically affected sites with rural anthropogenically affected sites using homogenized data and proclaimed there is no significant UHI.

    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  13. Nathan says:

I totally agree with that this station is in a urban heat sink but not even the pictures above do it justice. I went to school at CSU it has grown tremendously over the last 10 years. When I was there the bus station and the parking lot was already there but now there are several new buildings that the pictures kinda show but only the construction of the new engineering building is visible. There are new dorms now and it’s just amazing having lived there how much construction has happened around this university that use to have a lot of grassy tree covered areas.
