The same large oscillations in the jet stream which made the US cold this winter, have the potential to cause major heatwaves this summer. I will describe it as excess cold Arctic air dislodging tropical heat.
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

I predict a cool winter. All that ice in the great lakes and snow in the north will release cold air into the climate when they melt. (Just as they argue that the global warming is trapped in the water, here we have cooling trapped in the water/ice.)
“Austin, who studies the effect of lake ice, predicts that it will have a “very strong influence” on the regional climate this summer, with the “air conditioning [lake] effect” more pronounced than usual. “Typically, the lake will start warming up in late June, but it will be August before we see that this year,” Austin told CNSNews.com.” http://cnsnews.com/news/article/barbara-hollingsworth/ice-expert-predicts-lake-superior-will-completely-freeze-over
You are forgetting the great deal of heat trapped below the ice which has the potential energy of several millions of degrees.
Yes, that “trapped heat” really knows how to hide well.
I believe (feelings and beliefs trump science, after all) that the heat is afraid of the cold; the cold’s misogynistic, homophobic, racist beliefs scare the heat which is warm and embracing.
So the heat is hiding from the cold.
One day it will come out of hiding and THEN we’ll have real global warming.
When the cold says it’s sorry for being racist, and the other stuff.
See? Modern science. It’s faith-based!
The warmer than normal part also must have a colder than normal part. No Yin without a Yang.
Presumably, the undulating version of the jet stream is prone to high blocking, which would allow a specific area to heat up. But I’m suspecting a mild summer because 1934/36 look more like solar max than impending grand minima. But what happened in those years is remarkable. We have a lot to figure out….
And here I thought this was settled science. LOL
I think I read somewhere that there were some very hot summers during the Little Ice Age.
Somewhere on the planet is bound to have a hot summer this year – it happens every year. That CO2 certainly gets around.
They’ve been hammering the heat in Australia, and Argentina. Imagine a burner in CONUS in 2014, they’ll gave a field day.
If you look at the 1930’s when we had some of the hottest summers in the US, we also had some of the coldest winters.
Were those winters also very snowy?

There are records that Steven has found that showed some very warm days during the early 20th century and HH Lamb found that the jetstream tended to ‘lock’ more frequently during the LIA and the 19th century minimums. So, yes we may well see some 2003 summers in the coming 20yrs with some 1947 winters.
I have been noticing alot of the recent record cold days in my area were set in 1936. And I hope we are both wrong about this coming Summer.
Looks like the battle for the public’s minds has been won by the climate change skeptics if Yahoo’s audience is any indicator. It seems that 90% of the comments section is blasting Kerry as being a hypocritical fool for insulting climate change skeptics. His tax avoidance and huge use of carbon fuels for his mansions, yachts and jets etc does not help his case. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/john-kerry-mocks-those-deny-climate-change-173340445–finance.html
This dangerously hot winter weather has apparently drawn many former believers to the “dark side”.
More data adjustments are necessary to convince those who are wavering in following correct AGW thought.
/sarc 😉
And yet, I’ve just had an hysterical email from Avaaz, urging us to use the flooding here in the UK as overwhelming evidence of Climate Change and insist that David Cameron silences the ‘Deniers’. I suggested they read this blog – and that of JoNova. I expect to be removed from their mailing list forthwith 😉
Avaaz looks the same as Australia’s GetUp.
A Student Union organisation funded by the labour unions and running the standard progressive agenda. Meanwhile they have a tiny membership.
If you guys in the US are concerned about hit summers and droughts, just invite the Australian PM, Tony Abbott, up there for a visit. He brings the rain to drought stricken farmers!!! I bet Obama can’t do that!

‘Hot’ summers. Fat thumbs disease strikes again.
Similarly, I’m guessing Algore hasn’t been staying at his Malibu beach-house lately, given the warm & dry conditions there.
I remember way way back reading the weirdest article about climate change. This scientist was discussing how that rare like beetle that only lived in the rain forest, gave off carbon dioxide as a by product. These bugs combined gave off just enough to keep the climate stable. The irony is, he said if they ever started to destroy the tree’s of the rain forests and these beetles began to die off due to lack of food, it would castatropically destroy our climate. Hey, maybe that sucker knew something we didn’t back then?
Hey I have to report I was in vegas in August and its still that dry heat. 114 degree’s of dry heat but it was dry.
Somewhat disturbing, assuming the stats are correct.
