Arctic Ice Concentration Up To Nearly 100%

A large high pressure system over the Arctic has compacted the sea ice and reduced extent over the past few days. It has also increased concentration up to nearly 100%, which means that almost all sunlight over the ice pack is now being reflected back into space.

So, this is scary and we should all be afraid, right?

    • mjc says:

Yes, because someone just cleaned the mirror and blew the dust off the heatsink…means it’s going to get damn cold…soon.

    • stewart pid says:

Come on Tony … u know that rotten ice doesn’t reflect 😉

      • MrX says:

HAHAHA! Oh man. I wish I could find that reference. The guy was saying that the reason that the Antarctic extent was getting larger is because the ice that’s freezing is LAND ICE. It melted from land (ie. globlal warming) and freezes more easily than natural ocean water. This was the explanation for how global warming was responsible for the higher Antarctic extents. I kid you not. I could not make this up even if I tried. I could never bring myself to that level of stupidity to come up with something like that.

These are the kinds of people that comprise the AGW “movement”.

My sheep are smarter than the Warmist Sheeple. They have learned to run mazes, to come when called and to run like heck if I have a rope in my hands.

“Rotten Ice” goes all the way back to 1964 link

          “Ice formations”
Rotten ice: Ice that has become fragile, easily breakable because of its age.

However I think this maybe the one you want at Think Progress. (What an Oxymoron)

Masters rebukes disinformers: “Diminishing the importance of Arctic sea ice loss by calling attention to Antarctic sea ice gain is like telling someone to ignore the fire smoldering in their attic, and instead go appreciate the coolness of the basement, because there is no fire there. Planet Earth’s attic is on fire.”

Chris Mooney has a good piece in New Scientist, “Arctic ice: Less than meets the eye,” the source of the above figures. Mooney focuses on the work of Canada’s David Barber — you can find his peer-reviewed work here: “Where on Earth is it unusually warm? Greenland and the Arctic Ocean, which is full of rotten ice” — New study supports finding that “the amount of [multi-year] sea ice in the northern hemisphere was the lowest on record in 2009.”

It had never anything to do with climate . It is all about power .

Which means the ice will probably cross the forbidden line pretty sooner than later LOL

  4. Andy Oz says:

This is beyond a joke. Reggie convinced me that if I booked a ticket on the NW Passage cruise, I’d get to help save the Planet and poley bears and penguins. Why isn’t he out there with his methane powered blowtorch sorting this sh*t out!

  5. Mike says:

Is September 1st around the last melt day? If yes, then it will be very cold winter.

    • Lance says:

Mike, when I worked up there (1979-80), 80th parallel, at the end of Aug, it had pretty much done, and I believe by early Sept., the Fjord (Slider) had froze over again, so it is pretty much done come end of Aug. Winds though can make a difference…..lets see how the rest of the month shakes out.

  6. ossqss says:

Less holes…. multi-year ice, again in melding process.

The Arctic can be very beautiful, but it’s a cloudy region with few sunny days during the summer.

Pity Mark “Death Spiral” Sereeze. Trashed his own career, a self inflicted Academic, a fool who will go down on history as one of the leading science morons who promoted the scam.

He must be so proud of himself.

a voice of reason at last on the arctic sea ice blog. john christensen ,taking reality to the frivolous one ,well done that man. http://neven1.typepad.com/blog/2014/08/asi-2014-update-7-late-momentum.html#more

  10. Brian D says:

With temps dipping down to -2 to -4C, the melt ponds are freezing up. Microwave sensors have a hard target now. Might be the bigger reason for the brightening of the map? And yes, some contraction going on, as well.

    • bit chilly says:

along with copious amounts of fresh sunlight reflecting snow . have to think steve was spot on with regard to another large increase in thicker ice this year. maybe he should open an account on the arctic sea ice forum to help those guys gain a better understanding of the data 🙂
