Question for those in the climate business:
I saw something interesting this AM. I went over to the NCDC ftp site (to look up something that had been referenced by a commenter elsewhere) and while poking around I noticed under the GHCN “daily” data “by year” that every single gZip compressed csv file, from 1763 to 2014 had a creation date of 8/29/2014 with all the timestamps in a 4 minute window. Is this a normal occurrence? No read_me files that I saw for the date explaining a change to format or reason so I have to wonder what’s up since I’ve never poked around in that part of the site. Just wondering…
