Well I was there this morning too. The stilt lady with the bowl of fruit on her head was the biggest thrill. Saw a few bikes and several old men too. Left quickly since the ran out of free Whole Foods bags.
Here in Denver both Sprouts and Trader Joe’s have been on building sprees, each with four or five new stores in the past year or two. It’s wonderful having all the competition.
Yes, it is, but when I go there I feel guilty for not supporting a fellow socialism denier. Thank God I’m emotionally robust and can live with the guilt.

There’s a new artesian or boutique market coming to the DC area named Streets market its on Pershing Drive. Check it out Steven.
My personal experience with artesian groceries has been that they combine the vast selection of goods with the same level of customer service that was last available in the Soviet Union, all for the same cost.
Here is (in my experience) a typical example of the core constituency of your average boutique market. The young lady in this video reminds me of a former flame, both in outlook and in her appearance, except for the fact that her eyes are a different color.

Man, you sure get orgasmic over Whole Foods. You must have gotten a good deal on their NASDAQ traded stock. Like it or not, their first concern is their shareholders. And getting people like you excited over their product is just playing to the shareholder. Welcome to capitalism (feel good capitalism to you).
I always appreciate progressives reminding me what not to enjoy. Sometimes I get so confused and think that we were put here to enjoy life.

Oh I see now…. this whole idea of giving people something they want at a price they find acceptable is all wrong. I’ve been so deceived! They should build million dollar stores where they offer bales of (local!) alfalfa in trade for a nice folk song played on your six string. That’ll pay the rent. Maybe part of the store can be an area where employees can offer arts and crafts for a few pence since the store won’t be paying them any of that evil capital.
And I will BET most of their shareholders are middle-class families trying to make ends meet. Welcome to Reality (feel good about taking care of the family, to you)
My personal experience with artesian groceries has been that they combine the vast selection of goods with a level of customer service exceeding any chain grocer, along with prices 10 to 20% less than those chain grocers. Yeah, Whole Foods produce is pricey but the upstarts challenging WF – in my market Sprouts, Trader Joes, Natural Grocers – have prices that beat the heck out of Kroger/Safewy/Albertsons with the same or better quality. And I have to think that WF got the ball rolling for these new competitors.
Everything I bought there last night was 33% – 50% cheaper than at any other store in town. Their prices for organic food are much lower.
I think it might depend on the location. When I work in San Francisco I find that Whole Foods’ price is as low as or better than Safeway, whereas in Denver WF is considerably higher. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not knocking WF. They’re great stores with outstanding products and great customer service. But they’re targeting upper middle class and above which I’m definitely not. BTW, I do buy dry spices there because I’m compelled to patronize a store whose top guy says “Business and capitalism have been great forces of good in this world, Business has created the prosperity that has basically lifted humanity out of the dirt.”
Whole Foods had the health plan that should have been the model for the country. It combined a Health Savings acct with a high deductible plan. It was really working for them. I think it is this year all corporate plans get hacked by Obunglecare.

Although I do default to a fine English cheddar for homemade mac and cheese. Blame Alton Brown for that one. It just melts better.
The picture doesn’t do it justice. That Cheese bar is less than 1/2 the size of the one in my local Whole Foods. They will have 25 European triple creams alone. This format of bountiful excess sells very well. People love having the selection. The trick is keeping it fresh.
You can go to Fred Meyer and get a processed crab cake about the size of a sand dollar, and maybe 1/2 inch thick for a buck. The ones in Whole Foods are hand made, with big chunks of crab about 4 inches wide by 2 inches thick, and they’re $8 each.
It looks like a normal spanish supermarket to me. Are those fresh oranges? Strange .On the northern hemisphere, the orange is a fall, winter product. Maybe in the US you harvest them earlier than in Europe.
Availability of oranges here in the States depends on the variety: Navels are in season during the winter while Valencias reach their peak in the summer.
As long as there is no disastrous freeze . They could become climate refugees if the US gets colder.
I think I just gained 14 pounds viewing those photos. And, I can’t wait for lunch….
