The transition seems to be increasing as well (hockey stick!). At the turn of the century people were predicting the EU under Sharia law by 2050 or 2060. Now it seems like it’ll later this fall.
People that I know that have traveled in Europe are finding that the work ethic in Europe is becoming less and less in a majority of regions. (But definitely not all regions) That happens when countries become more and more socialistic.
The will to maintain Independence, not let a government interfere, take charge and be responsible for one self is necessary for a democracy governed by its citizenry.

I doubt that. It is more likely they are influenced by popular culture and their own brand of indifference to the society in which they live, than any deep historical grievance.
