The New York Times says glaciers may disappear from Glacier National Park by the year 2050. This is excellent news because a century ago, scientists said the glaciers may disappear by 1950.

Yesterday I think there are a bunch of people on the PA turnpike (I-76) between Breezewood and New Stanton that were thinking that glaciation was coming. Many stuck overnight there. That’s why I keep my tanks pretty full and carry 5 days worth of food and drink in my truck. They have it open now finally but it’s still a mess.
RAH, my roomie laughed because I carried sand, cold weather gear, a winter down sleeping bag, food, water and a svea stove all winter in Rochester NY. That was until we almost got snowed in at work during the blizzard of 1977. Then she had me make up an emergency kit for her car.
Buffalo maintains the all-time high for snowfall in a single season, holding the record at 199 inches, all of which accumulated during the 1976/77 winter. Rochester, New York, comes in second, with 161 inches in a season..

I remember this type of weather from when I was a kid living near Syracuse “Much has been written about the events of the Blizzard of 77 (January 28-31, 1977). The storm forever linked Buffalo with the arctic although it is a proven fact that our city is NOT the snow capital of America or even New York State. That title goes to Syracuse or Watertown!”
Our dog sat on the garage roof every winter.

I figure we are headed back towards that type of weather as the AMO and solar cycle 24 both wind down.
There are times you can’t avoid it. But had I been running and needed to get into or out of the Philly or Harrisburg area yesterday I would have used I-80 to get north of the worst of it. Still have to deal with it on the north or south leg and that route would add miles but to me it is always worth it to go even up to 150 mi out of route to avoid messes like that. Paying attention to the forecast, conditions, and road closures and being willing to divert has saved me a lot of grief and hassles during my years as a commercial driver and more often than not when I have detoured it has saved me time.
I certainly agree RAH, whenever we drive from the Raleigh NC area up to the Boston MA Area we leave around 2:00 pm so we hit Fredericksburg, VA at around 7:00 pm.
Then we take Rt 17 to I 66 to I 81 then head back east to cross the Tappan Zee bridge before 7:00 am. We have driven through BosNYWash straight up the coast but even in the dead of night it has a lot of traffic as you well know. Therefore we prefer the western route.
In Winter I carry my survival gear in my truck, and since it all fits in my backpack, it is an easy fix for any unplanned “camp outs”. I also keep munchies, water, lighters, heavy boots, dry socks, a blanket, and shovels with me. I used to do alot of back country solo trips, and I tell everyone I know to keep Bic lighters in their vehicles and packs. Knowing how to make a fire with a bow drill or cell phone battery is cool, but real survivalists carry lighters.
Hey in Florida I carry my winter survival pack in the glove box. It is an extra 50 cents for the toll bridge and a $20 bill in case I have to stop for dinner.
(Sorrry… Yes, we have hurricanes here (or used to before CAGW) but you can see them coming long enough to stay home. I will, however, give a sincere “stay warm, stay safe!” to all those who live above the snow line.)

It appears that by official Democrat edict 2050 is the new date for the climate apocalypse. 2100 originally designated by the int’l leftist UN IPCC just wasn’t effective. 2050 is close enough to be alarming to the gullible but still far enough out that no current activist “scientist” or Democrat will be able to held accountable when the climate meltdown inevitably doesn’t happen.
I don’t know Joe! There have now been so many “tipping points” that I’ve totally lost track of when the climate apocalypse is supposed to come and kill us all. The Alarmists are just like my dog. She barks at anything that shows up in our driveway or yard. I don’t usually drive the big truck home but did this week and it took her awhile to quit barking at it. She even warns us when blowing leaves are coming to kill us all! Yesterday she got all hot and bothered because a fox squirrel came down into the yard and was digging up and eating some of the acorns it had stored. It’s one new threat after another with her, just as it is with the alarmists.
Rah, I’m going to have to turn you in to the SPCA for abusing your dog.

That’s kinda unfair to your dog. At least your dog is sincere.
She is sincere for sure. But regardless of motivations, she, like the alarmists, is constantly giving dire threat warnings when there is no threat.
That being said, I do take her threat warnings much more seriously than I do those from the climate alarmists.
I wouldn’t worry too much, until she tries to put a leash on you. 😉
I wouldn’t mind or pay any attention to the alarmists, not any more than a barking dog, if they weren’t constasntly trying to restict my freedoms and steal my money.

When I heard the word Blizzard in the forecast, my coastal NE upbringing kicked in. I wrote a checklist and before snow fell I had all my provisions ready. My wife thought I was crazy when I brought all the camping gear in from the shed.
I remember the Blizzard 0f 78 well.
